Chapter 43: Hypnotized Again
Feeling Yveste’s gaze, Lynn lowered his head.
Lie Eater’s passive ability confirmed that she was telling the truth.
Yet, he chuckled coldly in his mind.
Grant any wish? If he were to say something absurd, like wanting to touch her chest, would she really comply? Even if she agreed on the surface, she’d likely pull another trick, like the last time she played word games.
When it came to women, their words were best taken with a grain of salt—if not less.
Lynn suspected that Yveste’s offer was merely a ploy to test his sincerity, to see if he still harbored thoughts of escape.
Too bad for her—he’d already seen through it.
“I have no wishes,” Lynn said, shaking his head. “Just being in Your Highness’s presence is more fulfilling than I could ever ask for. My only hope is to remain by your side, just as I am now.”
However, Lynn had overlooked something crucial. This wasn’t just a typical fantasy novel—it was a real, unpredictable world.
Many things that didn’t exist in the original novel were very real here, including the ring on Yveste’s finger.
Unbeknownst to him, she had come prepared.
Hearing Lynn’s flowery words, Yveste should have felt pleased.
Instead, her gaze flicked to the faint red glow of the ring on her finger.
He was lying.
Yveste narrowed her eyes but didn’t show her displeasure outwardly. Instead, she spoke in a calm, measured tone.
“You should think carefully. I rarely make such promises.”
Lynn’s dismissal stemmed from his own assumptions.
Yveste had indeed made the offer to draw him closer.
Her willingness to grant a wish wasn’t an empty gesture—it was genuine.
That said, her generosity had conditions.
His wish could be for money, sealed artifacts, status, power, or even someone’s life.
But it had to align with her interests.
If he dared to ask for freedom or something absurd, like a personal maid to serve him, she’d undoubtedly slap him first before rejecting him.
Unfortunately, Lynn hadn’t grasped this nuance.
“I have no wishes… or rather, Your Highness’s wishes are my wishes.”
He silently congratulated himself on dodging her trap.
His unwavering tone carried the weight of someone who had experienced loss.
Feeling the heat from her ring, Yveste stifled a laugh born of both amusement and frustration.
It was strange.
When Lynn had been trying to escape her, she had used every method—threats, coercion, lies—to keep him by her side.
Now, when she genuinely wanted to grant him a wish, he responded with evasion and deception.
Why was he always such a handful?
Wouldn’t it be easier if he just made a wish like I wanted?
Yveste’s sense of rebellion flared.
The more Lynn resisted her goodwill with lies, the more she wanted to force him to accept it.
After all, she was a woman of difficult temperament.
Sensing Yveste’s silence, Lynn felt uneasy.
When he looked up, he found her expression had turned cold.
“Lying dogs are disobedient,” she said icily. “And disobedient dogs must be punished.”
Oh no!
Lynn’s instincts kicked in as he hurriedly activated Lie Eater, preparing for the worst.
Sure enough, Yveste made her move with no warning.
Her hand glowed as she raised it, displaying the Eye of the Mind sigil in her palm.
Lynn’s consciousness felt detached, his thoughts sluggish and hazy.
What the hell? No wind-up at all?!
Fortunately, he’d prepared for this scenario.
As his body feigned succumbing to the hypnotic state, Lynn silently exhaled in relief.
Unaware of his ruse, Yveste observed Lynn’s blank, vacant expression with satisfaction.
She stepped closer, her figure casting a graceful silhouette as she leaned against the desk.
Resting her lush, shapely hips on the edge, she crossed her legs, the sheer black stocking on her raised right leg gleaming faintly in the light.
She teasingly used the tip of her boot to nudge Lynn’s chin, as though playing with a pet.
Yveste didn’t immediately ask about his hidden desires.
Instead, she took advantage of her ring’s truth-detecting properties.
Licking her crimson lips lightly, she began her game.
“Who’s more beautiful—me or Shirlina?”
“You, of course.”
The ring stayed dark. Yveste’s lips curved slightly.
“If Shirlina and I fell into the water at the same time, who would you save?”
“You, and I’d throw a rock at her for good measure.”
“Who’s the most beautiful woman in the world?”
“Yveste Roland Alexini.”
“What do you think of my outfit today?”
“I don’t like it.”
“Hmm?”
“This dress accentuates Your Highness’s beauty perfectly. That’s precisely why I don’t want anyone but me to see it.”
Hearing this, Yveste couldn’t suppress her smile any longer.
This guy wasn’t just capable and sharp-tongued—he knew how to flatter her, and genuinely so. The ring confirmed his sincerity.
Her previous irritation dissipated like mist.
Why was I even doubting him? she wondered.
After all, hypnotized individuals spoke from their hearts.
Meanwhile, Lynn was drenched in cold sweat.
It had finally clicked—Yveste could discern his lies!
Recalling how her gaze had repeatedly flicked to her ring, he pieced together the truth.
Thankfully, her recent questions had aligned with his genuine thoughts.
He’d never seen Shirlina and knew of her only from the novel, where she was described as the Empire’s most beautiful woman.
In contrast, Yveste was the most stunning woman he’d encountered so far.
As for his comments on her attire, they too reflected his genuine feelings.
Even though he wanted to distance himself from Yveste, his natural possessiveness toward beautiful women couldn’t be entirely suppressed.
But what truly worried Lynn wasn’t these trivial questions.
The problem was that he didn’t know if Lie Eater could counteract the ring’s effect.
Even if it could, he wasn’t about to gamble on it.
For now, he was trapped in a precarious state where only truth would suffice.
This is worse than actual hypnosis! Lynn raged internally.
If Yveste decided to ask whether he was genuinely under hypnosis, he’d be utterly doomed.
Stay calm, stay calm.
He forced himself to think.
Given Yveste’s confidence in her hypnosis ability, she was unlikely to question its effectiveness.
In fact, this might be an opportunity.
Recalling his earlier plans, Lynn’s heart began to race.
Just then, Yveste’s next question broke his concentration.
“Tell me, what is your true wish—the one you’re hiding?” she asked, her gaze piercing. “Excluding escaping from me.”
