A Record of a Mortal's Journey to Immortality: Immortal Realm
Chapter 1188: RejectionSeveral figures appeared on the summit of Eight Plains Mountain, while the Asura Blood Gate faded away after standing for over a century.
The dark red light barrier over the plaza on the mountain summit had also receded, and at the moment, the plaza was basked in the golden glow of the morning sun.
Han Li took a deep breath of fresh air as he cast his gaze toward the rising sun.
All of a sudden, a burst of spatial fluctuations emerged beside him, and he hurriedly turned just in time to witness the arrival of Bai Ze and Yue Mian.
"Congratulations, Fellow Daoist Han, I can see that you've made massive strides in your physical cultivation," Bai Ze said with a pleased expression, while Yue Mian was also observing him with keen interest.
Han Li was rather disconcerted by Yue Mian's intrusive gaze, and a stunned look flashed through his eyes upon sensing the man's aura, which was as vast as the sea and not inferior to Bai Ze's in the slightest.
Could he also be a Dao Ancestor? Now that I think about it, the summoning array of the Lightning Bird Tribe registered a very strong reaction earlier. Could it be that this man is the Sky Roaming Kun Peng?
Despite these thoughts running through his mind, Han Li remained calm and collected as he extended a salute toward Bai Ze and said, "Thank you for granting me this opportunity, Senior Bai Ze. Otherwise, I shudder to imagine how long it would've taken me to make these strides on my own."
"Don't mention it, it's just a trivial matter," Bai Ze replied with a faint smile.
"It may only be a trivial matter in your eyes, but it's a huge favor that I'll never forget. If you require my services for anything in the future, please feel free to tell me," Han Li said in a serious manner. The opportunity that Bai Ze had bestowed upon him was no lesser a blessing in his eyes than the guidance that he had received from Patriarch Miro.
"In that case, I will state a request for you. If our primordial land ever comes under any crisis, I hope that you'll help us to the best of your abilities," Bai Ze said with a faint smile.
Han Li faltered slightly upon hearing this. The primordial land now had two True Spirit Kings, and the bloodlines of all of the deceased True Spirit Kings had also been inherited. In addition to that, it also had a whole host of powerful Great Encompassment cultivators. How could he possibly hope to make a difference in a crisis that even the primordial land couldn't overcome on its own?
"If such a day does come, then I'll be sure to do my best to help, although I can't guarantee that I'll be of much help," Han Li replied in a solemn fashion.
Bai Ze nodded in response, then turned to Yue Mian as he introduced, "Fellow Daoist Han, this is another True Spirit King of our primordial land, the Sky Roaming Kun Peng, Yue Mian. He's very interested in you."
This came as no surprise to Han Li, who had already guessed Yue Mian's identity, and he cupped his fist in a salute toward him as he greeted, "Han Li pays his respects to Senior Yue Mian."
Everyone else had already noticed Yue Mian, but they had never met him before, and only after hearing Bai Ze's introduction did they step forward to offer respectful bows.
"Don't bother, I'm not a stickler for formalities like Bai Ze. Where did you get your bloodline refinement cultivation art from?" Yue Mian asked as he looked intently into Han Li's eyes.
Han Li was abruptly overcome by a sense of feebleness, and the truth almost involuntarily slipped out of his mouth as he replied, "I obtained it from the belongings left behind by a Kun Peng Tribe senior in a lower realm."
"You obtained the cultivation art from a lower realm?" Yue Mian asked with a surprised expression, then nodded and turned his gaze away from Han Li.
The feebleness in Han Li's body slowly faded away, and he was rather alarmed and chagrined by what Yue Mian had done, but he was also left feeling very powerless.
Even though he had made some significant strides of late, he was still completely vulnerable in the face of Dao Ancestors.
Then again, even the peak-Great Encompassment Stage Liu Tianhao had been no match for Bai Ze, so of course he stood no chance.
With that in mind, what little resentment had welled up in his heart immediately faded away.
"If you want to know something, then just be civilized and ask him! How could you just go and control him like that? It's incredibly rude! This is why us primordial beings have such a bad reputation," Bai Ze reprimanded with tightly furrowed brows.
Yue Mian's brows also furrowed slightly upon hearing this, and he turned to Han Li with a rather awkward expression.
"It's fine. Senior Yue Mian is clearly a very straightforward person, and all he did was ask me a question," Han Li said with a smile.
"You hear that? Fellow Daoist Han isn't even complaining, so you should learn to not be so naggy," Yue Mian said with a pleased smile, and he was feeling a little fonder of Han Li for coming to his aid.
Bai Ze shook his head in a resigned manner and didn't say anything further.
"Fellow Daoist Han, you possess the Kun Peng bloodline, and I like your personality. Are you interested in serving as my Dao Ancestor Envoy?" Yue Mian asked with a smile.
"Dao Ancestor Envoy?" Han Li asked with a puzzled expression, having never heard of this term before.
Most of the other primordial beings present displayed much the same reaction as Han Li, but the rest of them, such as Liu Qing, Qing Dian, and the young Master of the Zouwu Tribe, were all stunned to hear this, and they turned to Han Li with envious expressions.
"Fellow Daoist Han, you're still not at the Great Encompassment Stage yet, so there are many things about Dao Ancestors that you still don't know about. Dao Ancestors like Father and Senior Yue Mian spend all of their time in seclusion and very rarely show themselves to the public. If it wasn't for the unrest brewing the Immortal Realm, Father wouldn't have come out of seclusion.
“Hence, all Dao Ancestors will select some powerful cultivators who they deem to possess great potential to serve as their envoys, essentially acting as their representatives. There are immense benefits to be reaped from this. Firstly, you'll have a Dao Ancestor as a backer, so the vast majority of people will think twice about opposing you.
“On top of that, Dao Ancestors will often bestow upon their envoys powerful immortal treasures and abilities, as well as provide guidance in their cultivation. This is a rare opportunity that's not to be missed," Lekima communicated through voice transmission.
Han Li's expression changed slightly upon hearing this, but he didn't offer an immediate response as a contemplative look appeared on his face.
After a brief moment of contemplation, he quickly extended a slight bow and said, "I'm very grateful that you think so highly of me, Senior Yue Mian, but I already have my hands full with various private matters that I must attend to, so I'm afraid I must turn down your kind offer."
He was harboring too many secrets, so he was very apprehensive about establishing close ties with people far more powerful than himself.
On top of that, he knew next to nothing about Yue Mian, so he was naturally not going to accept this offer.
Everyone who was aware of the gravity of Yue Mian's offer was stunned to hear this.
He must be insane to have passed up such an offer!
Qing Dian was both stunned and elated by Han Li's refusal, as was the young master of the Zouwu Tribe.
Yue Mian wasn't angered by Han Li's response. Instead, he merely nodded in response and turned his gaze elsewhere, much to Han Li's relief.
Bai Ze took a long glance at Han Li, then turned to everyone else as he said, "Alright, the blood inheritance ceremony is now over, so return to your respective settlements. The True Immortal Realm is going to enter an age of immense turmoil soon, so preparations must be made."
Everyone present gave a collective affirmative response before departing, including Qing Dian and the young master of the Zouwu Tribe, but not before each of them had taken a cold glance in Han Li's direction.
Han Li's brows furrowed slightly upon seeing this.
It seemed that the two of them harbored very deep resentment toward him. At the moment, they were no match for Han Li, but having inherited True Spirit King bloodlines, there was a chance that they could become Dao Ancestors in the future.
Normally, he would've made sure to eliminate such enemies, but he naturally couldn't do that with both Bai Ze and Yue Mian present.
"Brother Rock, I've only just inherited the regal bloodline, and it's yet to completely fuse with my body, so I'll have to return to the Heavenly Fox Tribe and go into seclusion. It doesn't look like you'll be staying in the primordial land for long, so you have to make sure to come back to see me," Liu Le'er said as she turned to Han Li with tears welling up in her eyes.
"I promise I'll come to visit," Han Li replied with a smile as he patted her on the head, and a smile instantly broke through her tears as she returned to her fellow tribesmen.
Liu Qing, Fox 3, and the others also bade farewell to Han Li, following which all of the Heavenly Fox beings departed.
Before long, Han Li, Xiao Bai, Bai Ze, Yue Mian, and Lekima were the only ones left on the plaza.
"Senior Bai Ze, Senior Yue Mian, I'm very grateful for the warm hospitality that you've displayed, but I have some matters to take care of, so I must also depart," Han Li said as he cupped his fist in a parting salute toward the two True Spirit Kings.
He had already been in the primordial land for over a century, and he had no idea how Jin Tong was doing or if the Reincarnation Palace had already made its move against the Nine Origins Temple, so he had to return to the immortal regions right away.
"Looks like this is where we part ways then, Fellow Daoist Han," Bai Ze replied with a nod, then turned to Xiaobai as he continued, "Xiaobai, even though you've reached the Great Encompassment Stage, the bloodline power in your body is yet to completely stabilize, so stay here and cultivate on Eight Plains Mountain."
"Thank you for your concern, Your Majesty, but I want to follow my master," Xiaobai replied with a shake of his head, and Bai Ze's expression darkened slightly upon hearing this.
"Xiaobai, I only accepted you as my spirit pet because I was unaware of your identity. Now that you've inherited a True Spirit King bloodline, there's no need to continue to refer to me as master. Just call me Fellow Daoist Han," Han Li hurriedly said.
Xiaobai could refer to him however he wanted in private, but he didn't want to irk the two Dao Ancestors present.
"What difference does it make? I'm used to calling you master, so I'll continue to stick with that," Xiaobai said.
