When Tang Jie came out from the Yellow Springs Hall, Mei Huaping was already growing impatient.

He urgently asked Tang Jie, “How did it go?”

Tang Jie continued to act slow and stupid, replying, “It’s been released.”

These words made Mei Huaping exhale in relief.

This was his greatest concern of the moment. Once this task was done, the plan was essentially a success.

He happily said, “Let’s hurry and go already. Don’t dawdle.”

With the mission complete, he was no longer as nice as before, but Tang Jie didn’t mind, following Mei Huaping out.

Once they returned to Shadowhowl City, Mei Huaping left him.

Tang Jie looked around and then found a secluded corner. Tang Jie began to lay down a small formation, which he soon completed. Despite its small size, it was incredibly complex, almost every part of it packed with formation lines.

This formation had the singular function of attaching its energy to the Space Worm Gate when it was activated, creating another spatial gate. In doing so, he created a side path for his personal use.

Moreover, because of his manipulations, he ensured that the side path could be entered before the main path.

As a price for opening the side path, the main path would be open for much less time, admitting fewer travelers to both paths combined than the main path could have on its own. Of course, Tang Jie didn’t care about this.

Once this was done, Tang Jie headed back underground to hibernate, once more entering a state of beautiful meditation.

After some time, the pounding of drums brought Tang Jie back to the real world.

He rose from the soil and opened his eyes, upon which he saw countless flags in the distance and a giant cloud of dust.

He knew that Nether God Eternal Night’s ghost army had arrived.

This time, it was no probe.

The vast ghost army seethed with killing intent and death energy.

Other than the enormous number of low-level ghosts, there were also tens of thousands of ghost generals, thousands of Ghost Kings, and seven or eight bizarrely-shaped yet extremely powerful ghosts, clearly Nether Emperors. As for the Nether God, he was absent, probably hiding in the shadows and waiting for the right moment. He still suspected that Nirvana was faking his injuries, so he had his subordinates open the path for him.

So many Nether Emperors paired with this vast army would be a challenge for even the Rosecloud Domain to hold off, and the scale of this war was far from being considered the largest in the Nether Domain. And the Nether Domain was still lacking when compared to the Primordial Fog Domain.

This was why each Primordial Fog invasion brought so much pain and suffering.

In this aspect, the Immortal Emperor was truly great. Only an existence like him could lead the humans to invade Primordial Fog and then divide the two planes, thus greatly reducing the threat posed by the Primordial Fog to the positive plane.

Tang Jie’s random musings had somehow brought him back to the Immortal Emperor.

The battle had already begun with both sides exchanging long-ranged fire, brilliant rainbow bursts of color filling the sky.

As the ghosts were in such great numbers, there was still some time until the outcome could be decided. Eternal Night clearly didn’t plan to keep waiting, so he would soon intervene personally.

A giant cloud of black smoke emerged out of the yellow sky, transforming into a giant hand and striking one of the ghost cities.

Even though that ghost city instantly activated its formidable defenses, they were all shattered in a single strike. The hand crashed into the city and instantly wiped half of it away.

The giant hand rose up, prepared to strike again and finish the job.

At this moment, a light purple barrier erupted from the Nether God palace, spreading out and enclosing the palace and its four ghost cities. The giant black hand struck the barrier, but instead of breaking it, it was thrown back by a bolt of purple lightning that had the owner of the hand howling.

“AROOO!!!”

In this howl of rage, the giant hand slowly withdrew.

Tang Jie could tell that this lightning bolt was actually a powerful spell art that could damage the Divine Soul. It was no wonder the Nether God couldn’t endure it.

The Soul-Sealing Death Prison!

This was Nether God Nirvana’s final trump card.

With this formation, not even a Nether God could easily push through.

But since Eternal Night was here, he had naturally come prepared.

As the black hand retreated, five Nether beasts appeared in the rear, in the forms of a turtle, bull, dragon, horse, and elephant respectively. They were enormous creatures, ten thousand feet tall, and each one was carrying a mountain on its back as it plodded forward, the earth shaking with each step they took.

Each of the five mountains was aglow with formation lines, and Tang Jie could tell at a glance that this was an extremely powerful formation that was being transported via these five mountains.

The five mountains and five beasts were a formation.

Eternal Night planned to use a formation to destroy a formation.

Nirvana’s ghost army seemed to realize this, and their attacks turned toward the five Nether beasts. In response, Eternal Night’s ghost army did their utmost to protect them, and the two sides once more commenced their slaughter.

One side wanted to destroy and one side wanted to protect, the two of them struggling in the mire of war.

Tang Jie didn’t know how long it would take for the five Nether beasts to reach the Soul-Sealing Death Prison, but he no longer had time to watch, for the side path was opening.

The formation he had laid out began to glow, and then it grew brighter and brighter before forming a vortex of light.

This was the automatic reaction prompted whenever someone opened the passage. As Tang Jie had manipulated the Space Worm Gate, the energy would be supplied to the side path before the main path, allowing Tang Jie to get in before the three Nether Emperors.

Once the passage was stable enough to hold him, Tang Jie jumped through and appeared in the Yellow Springs Hall.

The moment he appeared in the hall, he rushed out, his body vanishing into the air as he did.

Just as he disappeared, ten-some more figures appeared in the Yellow Springs Hall. It was the three Nether Emperors and a number of high-tier Ghost Kings, Mei Huaping among them.

But the moment the Ghost Kings exited the passage, the passage abruptly disappeared. One unfortunate Ghost King was still in the passage and was thus banished into the endless void.

The three Nether Emperors were startled at the disappearance of the spatial gate.

Wuyuan, the Preta Nether Emperor, furiously said, “What’s going on? Why did the spatial gate disappear so quickly?”

The putrid Nether Emperor, Witherdark, looked around and said, “Based on the lingering energy remnants, it appears to have used too much energy.”

Kilday, the bull spirit Nether Emperor, said, “It seems the Soul-Sealing Death Prison was stronger than we anticipated, and it took much more to break the spatial barrier. Forget it. There’s no point in complaining now. We’re just missing twenty-some Ghost Kings. They might not have been useful in a real fight anyway.”

“They would have been useful for scouting the path,” Witherdark said, not caring at all about what the present Ghost Kings thought.

The Nether Domain’s hierarchy was extremely strict, the pressure of rank far greater than one’s mental state.

Of course, for this very same reason, the moment they could no longer be suppressed, the subordinates would rebel. Nirvana’s case was a classic example, three Nether Emperors betraying him the moment his pressure on them subsided thanks to his serious injury.

Kilday grinned. “It’s enough.”

He grabbed some hairs off his body and then blew on them, upon which countless small bull fiends jumped out and charged out of the hall.

Witherdark simply snorted, still uneasy. In the end, he was still concerned about the lost combat power. They were facing a Nether God, so it was better to be safe than sorry.

After leaving the Yellow Springs Hall, Tang Jie didn’t proceed, instead hiding out of the way. He was unfamiliar with the palace, not knowing where the Nether God was or what traps were within.

Right as he finished hiding, the three Nether Emperors came out with their subordinates.

They charged without stopping in a certain direction, and Tang Jie followed.

While the palace primarily relied on the Soul-Sealing Death Prison for defense, there were still quite a few traps in the palace. They occasionally encountered vicious formations that even Nether Emperors had to treat cautiously, or else they risked losing it all.

But they were ready for this, Kilday’s bull clones triggering many of the traps. Some of the traps could not be found this way, so the high-tier Ghost Kings triggered them instead.

Rumblings and explosions were a constant, and while some it was from outside, the palace itself was quite noisy. But no matter how much ruckus the three Nether Emperors caused, no ghost appeared to stop them.

After pushing through another corridor of death, the ghosts reached a large hall.

Giant pillars with strange and exotic beasts carved into them towered in the hall, and an inextinguishable flame burned in a basin at the center. Straight ahead was a set of bronze double doors, and hanging above it was a ghost head: King River Cross. He sneered at the three emperors, “A pack of traitors. I knew you weren’t up to anything good. But in front of the mighty Nether God, all your conspiracies are in vain.”

“With just you?” Wuyuan sneered.

He didn’t care about some high-tier Ghost King, not even if this was his home court.

“Then what if I joined in?” a voice rang out, and a white skeleton appeared in the hall.

“Gold Extinction Emperor!” Witherdark cried out. “So you really were here. I admit that you’re very strong, and we’re no match for you one-versus-one. But you are all alone, while there are three of us here!”

“And if I were to fight as well?” a voice casually said.

The three Nether Emperors all trembled in shock.
