Atticus’s Odyssey: Reincarnated Into A Playground
Chapter 1310: DesperationChapter 1310: Desperation
Atticus was grateful for the information. But that didn’t erase the fact that the king had come to kill him. If Atticus wasn’t as powerful as he was, they wouldn’t be talking.
‘There’s also that…’ There was something else that had caught Atticus’ attention, something that made him pause.
“It is my hope that you wouldn’t kill any of my warriors,” the king started.
“As long as they fall in line.”
The king nodded, then hesitated, but he forced himself to continue.
“I have a feeling your potential will get you to the top. And my second in command is far too stubborn not to reach the top with you. I want you to deliver a message for him, your eminence.”
He took Atticus’ silence as permission. “When you reach the top, please revive my wife and daughter.”
‘There it is again.’ Atticus’ eyes narrowed. This was why he had chosen to hear the king’s last wish.
Revival.
It was one of Atticus’ own goals, to reach the top and bring back those he had lost. His grandmother especially.
Atticus was facing an inner dilemma he rarely experienced. Kancilot had tried to kill him. It was only right that he kill him too.
But the desperation in the king’s eyes was undeniable. He would do anything to bring his family back.
‘I can use it.’
Atticus would be extremely busy in the middle planes, dealing with other worlds, training, politics, and preventing his own world’s destruction.
From what Whisker told him, enemies would come from all sides. Having someone dedicated to finding out how to revive the dead could be useful.
Plus, the king was right, controlling the god meant controlling the world.
“Did you make any pact with the man?” Atticus finally asked.
Kancilot shook his head fiercely. “No, no,” he said quickly. “I’m sure he assumed I wouldn’t betray him because of my family’s revival.”
“Admit defeat.”
At those words, the king’s eyes flew wide.
…
Whisker’s expression had twisted, and he avoided Ozeroth’s mocking gaze.
He had confidently claimed that Atticus would only need a second to deal with the king, but several seconds had passed, and nothing had happened.
The warriors of Kariot clenched their fists, hope flickering to life within them. Lancaster had already informed them of where their king had gone.
If their king had lasted this long in the arena, then maybe, just maybe, he had found a way to match the child monster.
None of them dared engage Ozeroth or Whisker. If their king won, the world would be theirs regardless.
As they all waited with bated breath, a frown appeared on Ozeroth’s face.
“Bond is taking too long.” Even he had to admit that Atticus was taking longer than expected. They had all seen how overwhelming the odds were.
Suddenly, streaks of light tore across the horizon, surging toward them. Magnus, Avalon, and a handful of other Eldorians appeared in front of them.
“Where’s Atticus?” Magnus asked, his killing intent slamming into the circle members with crushing force.
Lancaster raised a hand, stopping the others from responding with their own killing intent.
“We have to wait for the king,” he said firmly.
“He’s in the arena of gods,” Ozeroth responded, his tone drawing narrowed looks from Magnus and Avalon.
Even Oberon noticed the trace of uncertainty in Ozeroth’s voice. But before they could question him, a golden light erupted across the skies, its radiance overwhelming.
“Finally.”
Ozeroth felt Atticus’ presence before anyone else. But as the light began to dim, his frown deepened. Why was there another presence near Atticus?
When the light finally vanished, all eyes turned to Atticus, and then to Kancilot. The latter was wrapped tightly in Atticus’ will, his earlier arrogance completely gone. He even looked… submissive.
Atticus allowed the king to speak to his warriors before appearing before his own people.
“Are you okay?” Avalon asked, while Magnus’ gaze was equally sharp and questioning. By now, all the Eldorians had gathered.
“I’m fine,” Atticus replied with a reassuring smile.
“Would you mind enlightening these primitive minds as to why you took so long?” Whisker said with a forced smile.
It would take him a while to live down the embarrassment, especially since Ozeroth had heard him. The spirit would never let it go.
“We were talking.”
Everyone looked confused.
“First off,” Atticus turned to Whisker, “why didn’t you tell me about the ascension trial?”
Whisker blinked, feeling all eyes on him. “I couldn’t,” he said with a shrug.
“Why?”
“Because the star of the Verge forbids it. If I had told you, he wouldn’t have allowed you to ascend.”
Atticus frowned. ‘The star…’
He hadn’t met this star yet, but after everything that had just happened, he wasn’t sure he wanted to. Not that he’d have much of a choice.
“We were targeted,” Atticus finally said. The Eldorians’ expressions turned cold, and Ozeroth’s aura erupted, a heavy weight pressing down over the area.
“By who, Bond?”
“The Redflame representative,” Atticus answered.
Whisker sighed. “I just knew it.”
Atticus understood his sentiment. Whisker had been among those who told him not to join a faction, but he had also warned him about how stuck up and arrogant they all were.
“Stop whining,” Ozeroth said sharply. “They dared make an enemy of us. We won’t let this slide.” He glanced at Atticus as he said the last words.
“I have no intention of letting it slide, don’t worry,” Atticus said, and Ozeroth smirked.
“Only the Red Flames would do this openly,” Whisker said after a pause. “If the Abyss representative took offense, they’d attack from the shadows. The Nature faction too, they act peaceful, but they’re rotten on the inside.”
There was a bitterness in Whisker’s tone when he mentioned the Nature faction, a hatred that Atticus and Ozeroth didn’t miss. Neither of them commented on it.
“The Iron representatives are the only ones we don’t need to worry about. They’re too rigid and militaristic to bother with something this petty.”
“So, the Redflame, Abyss, and Nature representatives,” Atticus confirmed.
Whisker nodded.
“Alright!” Ozeroth cracked his knuckles with a grin. “When we get to the middle planes, we’ll make them pay!”
Atticus and Whisker gave Ozeroth a look. They shook their heads in unison. The spirit clearly hadn’t realized just how massive the scale of their enemies was.
“By the way,” Oberon’s cautious voice cut in. He waited for a long pause before daring to speak in the middle of such a tense conversation.
“Is there a reason you spared their god, supreme ruler?” he asked.
