Vol 2 Chapter 38: Executioner Lin Jing
Within the academy, news of Lin Jing's intention to establish the "Dragon Palace" organization was spreading rapidly.
Outside a cave residence, a cultivator with a third eye glanced at the intelligence scroll in his hand. After a brief chuckle, he burned it to ashes.
"These new students are getting more arrogant by the day. I remember personally inviting this Lin Jing to join the 'Eye Alliance.' Not only did he decline, but now he’s even starting his own organization."
"Rising Dragon Pill? A Qi Refinement cultivator from some third-rate sect, playing at forming cliques and alliances? A year or two? No, perhaps just a few months before this so-called Dragon Palace falls apart."
A frail young man dressed as a scholar stepped forward from behind him and said, "The founders of the academy's major organizations are all geniuses in the Foundation Establishment stage like you, ranked on the Genius Rankings. Even if his talent is decent, Lin Jing is moving too hastily. Without enough strength or reputation, he’s bound to run into trouble. For someone like him, aligning himself with a powerful faction would be the best choice."
"Perhaps it’s because his sect has been sealed off, and he’s desperate to rally support from heirs of other sects. If the Beast Taming Sect gains more allies among the human race, their Heavenly Fortune might improve," Liu Yu interjected. "However, if the Rising Dragon Pill is as miraculous as the rumors suggest, he won’t be able to protect it with his strength and background. Even I am tempted by it."
"Although the idea of cultivating a dragon-blooded demonic pet with the Hidden Dragon Art and a single pill seems far-fetched, there are always those who don’t care about practicality. They’ll definitely try to seize the pill recipe."
...
Meanwhile, outside Lin Jing’s cave residence, visitors were coming in droves. The marketing of the Rising Dragon Pill was far more successful than expected. The overwhelming interest was even affecting Lin Jing’s pill refining sessions.
Over the past few days, many new students had placed orders for the pill, along with some older students who hadn’t made much progress.
This was all thanks to Xu Zhizhi's efforts in spreading the word.
"Even Wang Xiao, after acquiring a Flame Dragon Carp, took the Rising Dragon Pill. He seems to be planning to raise a dragon pet!"
"A Heavenly God Physique is already an unstoppable path; having multiple dragon pets just adds more avenues of strength!"
"If even the invincible physiques acknowledge it, what are you waiting for? In the path of cultivation, if you lag behind, you’ll always be behind!"
Recently, Wang Xiao had seemingly left Hidden Dragon City. While Xu Zhizhi hadn’t spread false rumors, the growing buzz led to exaggerated claims, including one that Wang Xiao had been so scared by a Flame Dragon Carp that he wet himself. Despite this, Wang Xiao hadn’t appeared to refute the claims, leaving Xu Zhizhi to speculate that he had likely returned to the Wang family to search for a demonic beast with stronger bloodlines.
"Is Lin Jing in?"
Another visitor had arrived.
"And you are?" Lin Jing stepped out of his cave residence, looking at the black-robed young man before him. The man radiated an oppressive aura, and Lin Jing faintly sensed that his cultivation was likely at the Great Perfection of the Foundation Establishment stage.
"My name is Chu Ren. Are you willing to sell the recipe for the Rising Dragon Pill?" the black-robed youth asked directly.
"I only sell the pills, prioritizing those planning to join the Dragon Palace. The recipe is not for sale," Lin Jing replied, shaking his head.
The black-robed youth pressed on, "Name your price. You won’t be disappointed."
"The Rising Dragon Pill requires unique materials exclusive to the Beast Taming Sect. Even if I sold the recipe, you wouldn’t be able to refine it yourself," Lin Jing explained.
Chu Ren’s brows furrowed. "Are you sure there’s no room for negotiation? Don’t you know who I am?"
"The Chu family of the Ancient Domain, ranked 98th on the Genius Rankings, Chu Ren, at the Great Perfection of Foundation Establishment. So what? My brother said it’s not for sale, and that’s final!"
At that moment, another black-clothed figure landed outside the cave residence. The newcomer glared at Chu Ren with a warning expression.
"It’s him." Lin Jing recognized the man and smirked slightly.
"Think it over." Chu Ren shot Lin Jing a final glance before leaving.
After Chu Ren had gone, the newcomer, Gao Sheng, sneered. "Lin Jing, do you know him?"
Gao Sheng snorted. "Of course. He was a hedonistic scion like me in the past, but his innate talent is much better, possessing a rare innate physique. He probably sees the Rising Dragon Pill as an opportunity and thinks your small sect, the Beast Taming Sect, is easy to bully since you have no strong backers. He likely planned to force you to sell."
"But don’t worry. With me here, he won’t succeed. Besides, in the academy, he wouldn’t dare act recklessly."
Lin Jing shook his head. "People like that really exist, huh? It’s fine. I was mentally prepared when I started selling Mechanical Bamboo Rifles. But it seems the Rising Dragon Pill is a much greater temptation."
"That’s for sure," Gao Sheng agreed. "The Chu family raises a Dragon-Blooded Demonic King, which frequently spawns dragon offspring. Chu Ren likely sees the Rising Dragon Pill as a way to cultivate a king-level bloodline. Compared to the Mechanical Bamboo Rifles, this pill is far more valuable."
"In any case, don’t worry about him for now. By the way, I’ve taken care of that favor you asked me for," Gao Sheng said with a grin.
"Really?" Lin Jing’s eyes lit up.
"Yes. Actually, there’s an immortal prison here in Hidden Dragon City where demonic cultivators are detained under the control of the Demon-Slaying Bureau. I pulled some strings to get you a position as an executioner there."
"An immortal prison in Hidden Dragon City?" Lin Jing was slightly surprised. "With so many powerful figures here, there are still demonic cultivators around?"
Gao Sheng explained, "No, these demonic cultivators were captured from various parts of the Ancient Celestial Kingdom. The kingdom is founded on Heavenly Fortune, and these demonic cultivators harm that fortune. But executing them also enhances the kingdom’s luck. Where they’re executed is important, too. Hidden Dragon City, as a hub of fortune, provides great benefits to the academy’s talents when executions are carried out here."
"I see," Lin Jing nodded. "When do I start?"
...
The immortal prison controlled by the Demon-Slaying Bureau was located deep underground.
Gao Sheng led Lin Jing through multiple checkpoints until they reached a heavy prison gate. Outside the gate, a middle-aged Core Formation cultivator with a murderous aura awaited them.
"Young Master Gao, is this Lin Jing you mentioned?" The Demon-Slaying Guard glared coldly at Lin Jing.
"Yes... Uncle Zhang, I’ll leave my friend in your care," Gao Sheng replied with a smile.
"It’s a small matter." The guard named Zhang turned to Lin Jing and said, "Lin Jing, I see you’re only at the Qi Refinement stage. This prison is saturated with killing intent, and the prisoners here are all at least Foundation Establishment cultivators, many with countless lives on their hands. Before carrying out executions, shouldn’t you first learn a calming and mind-clearing technique?"
"Otherwise, I’m afraid this place will start to affect you over time. Back when I started, I couldn’t go a day without killing someone," he added grimly.
"I’ve already told him," Gao Sheng said seriously. "Lin Jing, it’s best to cultivate something like the Calming Heart Technique. There’s a collection of techniques here, and Uncle Zhang will help you choose one. These are mandatory for working in this environment."
"That’s right. I currently use the Seven Kills Divine Sword technique to process my killing intent," Zhang added. "But since you’re not planning to stay here long, just pick something easy to learn."
"Thank you." Lin Jing nodded. Although he had prepared pills beforehand, he understood the importance of additional precautions.
Suddenly, a thought occurred to Lin Jing, and he asked, "By the way, do you have any Buddhist techniques here?"
He remembered that a Demon-Slaying Bureau expert had once performed a blessing on him, and cultivating Buddhist techniques might be more effective for him. Since his cultivation aptitude wasn’t particularly high, it would be best to choose something simple to learn.
