Beast Tamer Ascension

Book 2: Chapter 49: Tianji Pavilion

Vol 2 Chapter 49: Tianji Pavilion

“Further observation? With your current cultivation, attempting to spy on such a prodigy will only bring backlash,” the old man said coldly.

“The Ancient Domain… That’s where Hidden Dragon Academy is hosting its Autumn Trials. After every trial, the Genius Rankings shift—it’s normal. Your senior brother Huihua has already gone to the Ancient Domain in person.”

A white-haired, white-bearded elder emerged from the depths of the pavilion, his gaze fixed on the celestial patterns on the star chart. He paused, visibly surprised.

“A true ‘wild genius,’ with almost no ties to sect fortune… Could they be the disciple of a powerful rogue cultivator?”

Strangely, the aura of their fortune was tinged with black. Could they be an infiltrator from a demonic sect? Should we inform Hidden Dragon Academy?”

“Master, I’ll notify them!” the young girl said eagerly.

“Disciples of the Tianji Pavilion must endure fifty years of astrology and thirty years of divination training—a total of eighty years of painstaking cultivation—before they can venture into the world. You’re far from ready,” the elder replied firmly, his tone leaving no room for argument.

The Cangmang Mountain Range stretched endlessly into the horizon. In the sky above, many powerful figures hovered, their divine senses enveloping the terrain below. Among them were cultivators from both the academy and Tianji Pavilion.

Tianji Pavilion cultivators, skilled in divining secrets, could perceive many things: whose fortune was about to wane, whose destiny was about to rise. However, as the saying goes, “Heaven’s secrets must not be revealed lightly.” Even Tianji Pavilion cultivators would only observe initial signs or omens unless there were substantial benefits at stake. They often chose to witness events personally to verify their interpretations, gaining deeper insights if their predictions matched reality.

Tian Huihua, a disciple of Tianji Pavilion, was the pavilion’s sole representative at the Autumn Trials. The true disciples of the pavilion were few; its secret arts required exceptional talent, and the core members of Tianji Pavilion had never exceeded ten. Most others associated with the pavilion were guest cultivators who had benefited from its insights.

Though Huihua was only at the Nascent Soul Great Perfection stage, the academy’s instructors treated him with great respect. After all, as a disciple of the pavilion, he could easily summon a Nascent Soul guest cultivator from Tianji Pavilion to intervene when necessary.

“I foresee that a prodigious rogue cultivator, unaffiliated with any sect, will experience a dramatic shift in fortune and ascend the Genius Rankings,” Huihua said, his gaze fixed on the mountain range below, a faint smile on his lips.

“An unaffiliated genius?” The academy instructors were delighted. A new addition to the Genius Rankings was always cause for celebration. The fact that this individual was a rogue cultivator made it even more thrilling.

Such prodigies, unbound by sect ties, were especially valued by the academy’s teachers. Unlike those from established sects, rogue cultivators could be more easily recruited into the academy, free from the complications of sect politics.

“Let’s see who it is,” mused Cao Ziwei and the other instructors, wracking their brains to recall which rogue talents might qualify. But no name came to mind.

Though talented, rogue cultivators often lacked the resources and inheritance to compete with sect-trained peers.

As streaks of light signaled the teleportation arrivals in the Cangmang Mountain Range, everyone turned their attention to one particular figure.

This individual had the best luck among the hundreds of transported participants, landing directly beside a mid-Foundation Establishment demonic beast.

“Yang E’peng of the Everlasting Spring Valley, early Foundation Establishment,” an instructor identified him.

“A top scorer in the lower division’s entrance exams. Facing a mid-Foundation beast… this might be a problem.”

A man in a green robe, Fang Shilin, watched with keen interest.

“Just a serpent demon,” Yang E’peng said calmly. In the blink of an eye, a red shadow darted from his sleeve, piercing the serpent’s head. The beast collapsed, slain in an instant.

“Impressive,” remarked a Dragonblood Woodpecker Demon, flying over. Fang Shilin tossed it a spirit fruit as a reward, smiling faintly.

“I’m Fang Shilin, from the Dragon Palace.”

Fang Shilin was the first student Lin Jing had defeated upon arriving at Hidden Dragon Academy. Far from resenting Lin Jing, Fang Shilin had grown frustrated with those who mocked him for losing to a freshman.

What was so funny about struggling with the Hidden Dragon Arts?

Determined to prove himself, Fang Shilin joined the Dragon Palace, aiming to master beast taming and silence his detractors.

“No wonder the Dragonblood Woodpecker Demon is so strong—it was raised following the Palace Master’s methods,” Fang Shilin said, filled with admiration for Lin Jing. Despite being defeated by Lin Jing, he deeply respected him as a prodigious genius.

Elsewhere, Lin Jing was surveying the landscape after his teleportation, soaring above the forest to scout for rare resources.

“Bold, isn’t he? Flying openly in the Cangmang Mountains with such low cultivation, unafraid of provoking a swarm of beasts,” someone remarked.

“Still, this is the prodigy who reaped the greatest rewards from the Dragon-Phoenix Cavern Heaven. Both he and his beast companion achieved the peak of Qi Refinement, correct?”

“That’s true, but this mountain range is far more dangerous than the cavern projection. The beasts are much more scattered here.”

“Look ahead—there’s one of the fierce beasts we captured from the Cloud Sea Mountains,” an instructor said.

This beast had cornered Qin Yiran, ranked ninety-second on the Genius Rankings.

The Cloud Sea Mountains, located south of the Ancient Celestial Kingdom, were perpetually shrouded in mist that blocked divine senses. Only a few ancient tribes practicing sorcery resided there, as did the elusive Gu God Sect, whose hidden presence had long eluded eradication.

“A Cloud Sea Mosquito Beast?” Huihua of Tianji Pavilion gazed at the instructor’s mentioned beast with newfound interest.
