Chapter 861: Chapter 9: The Road Signs of Hometown_3
Podoliskov understood the Melania word “Liberation” and echoed: “Yes, liberation, we’ve come to liberate! Different from the nobles of the past!”
The old lady looked at Podoliskov skeptically, but the sausage in Henry’s hand did look of good quality, so she took the sausage and walked eastward, looking back after every few steps.
Henry: “Let’s go into the city. The anti-tank stakes are shoddily made, they can be broken through just by ramming into them. The enemy has taken the city center.”
Podoliskov: “Into the city. Ram through the anti-tank stakes at full throttle. They’re all shoddily made.”
Revenge for the Heroic Brother was started again, passing by the wreckage of the wagons, then by the pile of compost on the roadside, and several run-down wooden houses, until it finally came upon the first brick building.
A sign hung on the building, with words in Melania language.
When the tank passed by, Henry saw a child, about thirteen or fourteen years old, stick their head out from the second floor and shout: “Go away! Hurry, the enemy is ambushing you!”
Before the echo of his voice faded, the child was pulled back by their parents, the window was closed, and curtains drawn.
Henry: “Stop! The locals say the enemy is laying an ambush for us, we should let the infantry go down and check the situation.”
“You’re right.” Podoliskov, an old soldier, knew this was the best solution under the circumstances, so he ordered the tank to stop.
Henry: “Get off, get off! You must be numb from sitting so long. Time to stretch your legs!”
The soldiers of the Melania People’s Army jumped off one by one, spreading out on both sides of the tank.
Henry, carrying his “Scale Weight Launcher,” ran ahead of the tank with quick, small steps, moving down the street.
His subordinates immediately moved forward in alternation, following in his steps.
Henry ran to the corner and stopped, sticking closely against the wall, he cautiously peered around it.
The next moment, the machine gun fire swept in, bullets pattering against the brick wall, the resulting fragments scratched Henry’s eyes.
“Sukabule!” Henry cursed like an Antean, covering his eyes, “My eyes!”
The machine gun bullets swept across the street, hitting buildings on the opposite side.
However, the machine gunner clearly had no experience; he was too excited and fired wildly without seeing the target.
Sergeant Vernon, following Henry, said: “Feels like a greenhorn, yet the sound of the machine gun is still MG series. The regular forces we’ve encountered have started using the Maxim. The local defense forces and greenhorns with MGs?”
“It is a bit strange.” Henry took out the spoon he carried with him, used the shiny back as a mirror to peek around the corner, “The machine gun is on the second floor, in a three-story brick building. Feels like the Rokossovsky Type 100 cannon could solve the problem directly.”
Sergeant Vernon: “Not so great, enemy tank positions haven’t been exposed. They must have tanks, right?”
At this moment, the machine gun fire ceased.
The obviously inexperienced shooter had overheated the gun barrel and needed to stop to change it.
Henry: “There’s cover ahead coming out of the corner, take up positions there to prepare for fire support! Take a squad with you, Vernon!”
After finishing his words, Henry dropped the spoon, grabbed the submachine gun, and rushed out from around the corner, firing at the second floor where the machine gun was.
Sergeant Vernon shouted: “Duke, Yang! You two, with me!”
With that, he rushed out, sprinting across the street.
The People’s Army soldier called by his name also sprinted to catch up.
By this time Henry had fired all the bullets in his magazine, he took a final glance at the three members of Vernon’s squad, and ducked back around the corner.
The machine gun fired again, but the target was still Henry’s hiding spot. Bullets rained down on the corner, even shattering the brick wall.
Right at this moment, Vernon’s squad opened fire, and the machine gun fire was immediately suppressed.
While changing his magazine, Henry shouted to his subordinates: “Next group, get ready. After you go out, move along the right wall to find new cover, and form crossfire with Vernon’s squad!”
Just then, the door of the shop next to Henry opened and a bearded old man poked his head out: “Are you Melianians?”
Henry: “Yes, old man, you better take cover, our tanks might start firing soon, and these buildings will be blown to bits!”
“Prosen bunkers can’t hit inside the courtyard, I’ll lead you through the yard, then you can go out and throw grenades,” the old man clutched Henry’s shoulder tightly, “I know this will work, because my grandson is a guerrilla! Trust me!”
“Well, where is your grandson? Wouldn’t it be better for him to lead us?”
“Sacrificed. Anyway, follow me! After we drive out the Prosens, I can give you a haircut for free!”
Only then did Henry notice the shop at the street corner, with a sign reading “Barber Shop”.
Old man: “Come on!”
Henry: “You three, follow the old man! We’ll draw the Prosens’ attention here!”
The three pointed out by Henry nodded and followed the old man into the house.
The enemy ceased firing at this point, probably changing their gun barrel.
Henry dashed out again and soaked the second floor relentlessly.
When the Scale Weight Launcher fired, it sounded like a puff of air, but the sharp crack when the bullets struck the target was loud enough that even Henry could hear it.
Vernon’s squad, having taken the opposite position, also opened fire. Bullets whizzed down on the enemy machine gunner’s building, causing flashes and dust from the impacts all around.
Suddenly, grenades flew through the windows into the side of the building.
An explosion occurred, the Prosen Machine Gunner was blasted out of the sandbags and fell to the ground floor.
Henry, with his submachine gun, fired while charging towards the small building.
He was only attracting the enemy’s attention; the group that had followed the old man around had already appeared at the base of the building.
Several grenades were thrown into the first floor of the building, and after a series of explosions, the entire building went silent.
Henry, charging halfway, heard the sound of an engine and turned back to see the Revenge for the Heroic Brother rolling out from around the corner.
“Don’t rush!” Henry shouted, “Maybe the enemy’s tanks are still hiding! We can handle these!”
Podoliskov, on top of the tank, spread his arms: “You want to hog all the glory for liberating the city, we can’t agree to that! Besides, with the tank, you’ll have far fewer casualties!”
Henry shook his head, gripping his weapon as he lunged forward.
