Chapter 1347: Setting off

Chapter 1347: Setting off

The Niqols were truly terrible with negative emotions. Despite Liiza’s cold and aloof character, she couldn’t help but break down in Khan’s embrace, seeking as much support as possible to deal with that inconsolable anguish.

The past weeks also played a part in that teary outburst. Liiza had always known about the inevitable separation. Still, she had held back until the last second, building up feelings that she couldn’t suppress anymore now that she was alone with the person she trusted the most in the universe.

Khan was no stranger to that sad mood. After all, he had adopted the Niqols’ way of experiencing feelings long ago, and the mental connection with Liiza worsened his already terrible heartache.

Nevertheless, Khan’s selflessness became a valuable asset. Liiza wanted to break down, so he had to step it up, suppressing his pain to act as a pillar his wife could rely upon.

In a way, it was also Khan’s job as a man, husband, and father to assume that challenging role and make those heartbreaking decisions, especially during one of the rare moments when Liiza showed some weakness.

Khan held Liiza tightly, forcing himself to stop looking at the sky. He focused on the rational aspect of the matter, telling himself how necessary that separation was while sliding an arm under Liiza’s legs to lift her.

Liiza abandoned herself to Khan, letting him do as he wished while nestling in his neck, crying her heart out. Her fingers became needles that tried to stab his skin, but he remained unfazed as he approached the last ship in the dismantled camp.

The relatively flat vessel had numerous dark grey blemishes on its black hull. The violent landing had eroded most of its paint job, which the soldiers didn’t fix. Yet, everything else worked perfectly, and its entrance opened on its own upon Khan’s arrival.

The small cargo area was beyond cramped due to the thorough restock the soldiers had performed, but Khan hovered above the supplies, entering the bridge and carrying Liiza all the way to the pilot’s seat.

Khan swiftly activated the control desk, inserting his fixed phone into the designated socket, connecting it to the ship. Everything lit up, and blue light shone on the red marks still littering the vessel’s interiors as the autopilot performed mandatory check-ups.

The soldiers and Khan himself had checked the ship many times in the past days, so the autopilot couldn’t find anything wrong. Khan could turn on the engines without meeting any resistance, and the scanners’ screens displayed how the vessel began to leave the grey desert.

Liiza didn’t stay still during the short procedure. She defaulted to the Niqols’ ways of handling such intense, sorrowful feelings, and the tears falling on Khan’s neck began to mix with the saliva of her kisses.

That temptation almost pushed Khan to the critical point. After all, the couple had yet to fulfill their passion, and that sad moment would be the perfect opportunity to start doing that.

However, the ship still needed Khan’s directives. Initially, the last outpost before the spherical array of asteroids had been four weeks away, but the unnamed planet’s orbiting had prolonged that distance, adding close to two weeks to the flight.

Khan also had to adjust the flight path and speed according to his fuel and supplies. The last outpost was bound to refill both, and the tank and cargo area were beyond full already, but playing it safe was the only option when it came to trips through space.

So, Khan worked overtime, completing those calculations while the ship exited the unnamed planet’s atmosphere. Of course, Liiza’s tempting gestures also grew more insidious, and her pleading, alluring voice eventually resounded in Khan’s ear.

“[Khan],” Liiza whispered, begging as her teeth went on Khan’s ear. “[Help me silence these feelings].”

Liiza didn’t stop at that. Her hand slid down Khan’s torso, her black fingernails almost scratching his skin as she reached for his groin. The sensation was unbearable, and luckily, Khan didn’t have to endure it much longer.

The autopilot completed its calculations, showing its results on the holograms above the control desk. Khan pushed on the steering wheel, and the mana barrier activated, enveloping the ship to compensate for the pressure generated by its sudden acceleration.

The ship was looking at almost six weeks of continuous flight, but Khan couldn’t care about those details anymore. He should have sent messages, too, but those thoughts also vanished as he finally turned to address his wife.

Nevertheless, what welcomed Khan wasn’t a lustful Niqols. Khan turned toward Liiza, only for her to lift her face, revealing her pained expression and tears still flowing down her bright white eyes.

“[We sent our baby daughter away after just four weeks],” Liiza sobbed. “[She is all alone now, and we aren’t there to take care of her].”

Liiza leaned forward to hide her teary face on Khan’s chest.

“[What kind of parents are we]?!” Liiza cried, her fingers trying to stab Khan’s skin again, only for his warm hands to wrap themselves around them.

“[No parent ever had to face such a difficult mission],” Khan said, lowering Liiza’s hands. “[We had to go, and we couldn’t bring her along].”

Liiza seemed to calm down, sniffing again while lifting her head to look at Khan.

“[We left our daughter with the people we trust the most in the universe],” Khan continued, letting go of Liiza’s hands to reach for her face. “[We chose her safety over our feelings. That’s what parents do].”

Khan had to admit he was partially convincing himself. He was correct, but his emotional side wouldn’t listen to reason, no matter how many times he repeated those explanations to himself.

“[This is for her future],” Khan declared. “[And once we get back, we’ll never leave her side ever again. We’ll be so apprehensive she’ll grow to resent us in her rebellious years].”

Despite how clueless and stupid Khan could be at times, he was unbeatable during crises. Just looking at his serious but loving face filled Liiza with confidence, making her feel prouder than ever about the kind of man her husband was.

Liiza calmed down even further, leaning forward to place her forehead on Khan’s. He closed his eyes, relying on that cozy cold to quell his emotional state, only for a sudden push to slam him down.

The pilot’s seat didn’t even try to remain in one piece. Khan found himself on the floor, lying on the torn chair’s back. Liiza sat on top of him, and her glowing eyes conveyed something almost as intense as her sorrow.

After mere minutes on the ship, the couple had already broken something, and Khan had to work overtime to avoid destroying anything else in the passion that followed.
