Dark Magus Returns
Chapter 1355 - 1355: Transfer Students Real Power (Part 1)With the help of the transfer students covering their backs, the academy students were finally catching their second wind. The tide was beginning to shift. Not only were they watching each other’s blind spots, but they were now organized, coordinating their attacks and combining the power of their spells like a team that had trained together for years.
A group of fire-element users gathered in formation, pooling their flames into a stream of destruction. Occasionally, a gust of wind would boost their flames further, intensifying their power. The synergy was real. And among them, one of the biggest unsung heroes was Piba.
He wasn’t attacking the beasts directly. Instead, as if observing the battlefield from a bird’s-eye view, he used his Moon Magic to enhance the attacks of others. His power wasn’t applied blindly either. Piba was precise, sending boosts to those who needed it most, to those spells that would make the biggest difference.
And just in time too, because the enemy was relentless.
There were simply too many of the winged beasts. Even with the aid of the transfer students, the numbers weren’t thinning fast enough. From the edge of the battlefield, where Panla was stationed, the situation was turning dire.
Planting both hands firmly on the ground, Panla let out a surge of electric current that rippled outward in a glowing pulse. Lightning sparked through the air and struck nine of the oncoming birds mid-flight. Their bodies seized, electrified, frozen in place just long enough for the others to act.
It was a golden opportunity, and the students took it. Magic flew through the air, striking the immobilized enemies. Although their spells pierced the tough, iron-like feathers and left injuries, the wounds were shallow. The beasts were wounded, yes, but not down.
‘I can’t hold on much longer. My mana’s running dry!’ Panla grit her teeth. ‘The only way I can damage them is with high-tier magic, and even then, only one at a time. This wide-range spell… it’s holding them still, but to actually finish them off, I have to rely on the others. But they’re just not strong enough.’
Her muscles screamed in protest. Her body felt like it was being torn apart from the inside out as the lightning spell continued to discharge from her hands. She knew that any second now, her powers would fail, and when that happened, the creatures would break free and descend upon them.
“Just hold them for a few more seconds!” a voice shouted, cutting through the chaos.
Charging forward was a figure with a clean, straight sword glinting in his grasp.
The students turned, wide-eyed in awe. Soaring through the air, with purpose and perfect form, was the transfer student wearing an eyepatch. He hadn’t fought earlier like the others, but now, finally, he was moving.
It was Liam.
He had remained passive until now because, deep down, he feared he might blow their cover. Among them, he believed he was the least disciplined when it came to blending in. So he’d waited, for Raze’s signal, for the right moment. And now, that moment had come.
But the weapon in his hand wasn’t the curved blade he’d once wielded. No, this was something else, something rare. A straight, slender sword of deadly precision, obtained from the mysterious forces of Alter.
“Wind Cleaving Strike!” Liam called out.
As he swung his blade, wind magic wrapped around it like a vortex. With frightening ease, the sword sliced straight through the neck of one of the beasts. Its head dropped to the ground before the rest of its body collapsed after it.
The others, Panla included, were stunned into silence.
‘How… how did he do that?’ Panla’s thoughts raced. ‘That had to be wind magic. But… no one’s wind spells, not even ours, were ever refined or strong enough to cut through those beasts. Their feathers were almost impenetrable.’
Sure, the sword likely helped. But the amount of force and control required to wield wind magic like that? Liam had to be incredibly powerful.
The sword itself had a terrifying ability, it could cut through anything. Liam had been itching for the right moment to test it, and this was it.
With no hesitation, he darted forward, swinging low. The blade cleanly severed a beast’s leg, causing it to topple. Another lunged at him from behind, screeching, but Liam spun, his blade raised in defense. The incoming attack clashed against his weapon, only to be sliced through with ease. With another fluid motion, he swiped sideways and beheaded a second monster.
Although all of the transfer students had performed beyond expectations, Liam’s presence on the battlefield was something else entirely. He was cutting through the enemy like it was nothing. His efficiency, his technique, it was on a whole different level.
“I’m starting to believe what Safa said,” Chiba murmured, her eyes locked on Liam. “These transfer students… after what we’ve just seen, we can’t call ourselves the top students anymore.”
Her mind flashed back to the mock battle she’d once fought against them. Even then, they had clearly held back. If they hadn’t… the outcome would’ve been very different. But that only raised more questions. Why were these powerful students here, at their academy? What was their true purpose?
“I know what you’re thinking,” Yolden replied, “but I’m thinking the opposite.”
He looked at the chaos now settled, the monsters no longer a threat.
“If they hadn’t come to our academy… if they hadn’t stepped in… we would’ve all been dead.”
But that wasn’t the only thing Yolden was thinking about.
Safa had said something. If the situation ever became truly hopeless, if no one else could handle it, there was one more person they could rely on.
Raze.
And yet, even now, Raze had done nothing.
It was clear why. Because with the help of the transfer students alone, all thirty of the beasts had been defeated. One after another, they’d been slain, and none of the academy students had perished.
The battle was over.
“We… we did it,” Daina whispered, a small smile tugging at her lips.
“I don’t know if we can say we did it,” Redrick responded. “We were saved by them. And… I have so many questions I want to ask. But after what they just did for us, I’m not even sure we deserve to ask them.”
