Chapter 3378: Warm Boats
Later that day, Rean teleported to one of the cities near the corridor, even though that city was several tens of thousands of kilometers away from the corridor itself. It wasn't that no one wanted to build a city a lot closer to the corridor but that the Glacial Overflow wasn't contained inside the corridor itself. It also spread many kilometers to the sides, affecting all life in its range. Only at this distance would a city be considered safe enough to be kept.
Rean came out of the formations guild and looked around for a moment before waving his hand. Immediately, Kentucky appeared outside. "It's good to be out again."
Rean nodded. "We won't use teleport this time, so I'll be counting on you in case the need arises."
"Sure, no problem!" Kentucky didn't mind as long as he didn't need to get holed up in the Dimensional Realm.
"Welcome to Yhushy City, sir. My name is Ranfal. Do you need a guide?" A young cultivator quickly approached Rean and Kentucky, as did other cultivators to other experts who arrived with him in the same teleport formation.
Rean and Kentucky looked at him for a moment. "We intend to traverse the Glacial Corridor. We heard in the previous city that the Warm Boats can be taken here."
The Warm Boats were created for the sole purpose of traversing the corridor during the Glacial Overflow. Or at least that's what the formations master told Rean.
The guy nodded, although he seemed a little uncertain. "Sir is correct. Please follow me. I'll bring you there straight away."
Rean and Kentucky did as asked while Ranfal spoke. "I must warn you, though. The number of Warm Boats going into the Corridor has declined a lot in the previous decade, and if I were sirs, I wouldn't take them this time."
"Why is that?" Kentucky asked.
"Because of the severity of the Glacial Overflow," Ranfal continued. "You probably heard how the phenomenon lasts three hundred years, right? Well, the closer it gets to the end, the stronger the overflow becomes. I haven't seen when it started last time since I'm only twenty years old. But, from the last ten years, it became pretty obvious, even for me, that the Overflow is reaching or already reached its critical point. If sirs desire it, I can bring you to a very good hotel where you can wait the next thirty years for the phenomenon to be over."
"We heard about it in the previous city. But we have our reasons to go through it now, so we can't wait," Rean added.
The guide didn't mind and continued to walk. "In that case, I'll bring you to the Warm Boat Warehouses."
At some point, Rean and Kentucky stepped out of the city walls. They were quite surprised by the view. Far, far in the distance, there were some thick blue clouds where bright blue lights seemed to run through. Both of them could tell that the lights were not lightning, though. Just looking at them gave Rean and Kentucky a chill all over their bodies. "Those clouds..."
The guide also looked at it and nodded. "Is it your first time seeing the corridor during the overflow? Sorry, that was an idiotic question. Yes, those clouds are part of the Glacial Overflow. However, the clouds you are seeing are only the tip of the iceberg. We are still tens of thousands of kilometers away from the corridor itself, and the situation there is even more dire. It is not too late to decide to wait for the phenomenon to be over."
"It's fine." Neither Rean nor Kentucky had the intention of pulling back. If that were the case, they would rather simply teleport all the way south before going west again. It would take a long time, but definitely not thirty years.
Looking to the right, they noticed some gigantic warehouses in line. Most of them were closed, but a few were still operating with their doors open. Inside, some huge ships were being assembled by hundreds of cultivators, demon beasts, and spirits.
Ranfal brought Rean and Kentucky to one of those warehouses, introducing them to the owner there. "Senior Klinron, I brought you a few customers."
With their Divine Senses, Rean and Kentucky saw that Klinron was an Elemental Space Realm expert in the middle stage.
"Hum? Oh, it's Ranfal. Thank you." Klinron nodded, threw a few Divine Stones to Ranfal, and looked at Rean and Roan. "So our friends here intend to cross the corridor, uh? I must warn you that the trip is dangerous, especially for experts at your level. We will do our best to keep you safe, but there are no guarantees. Also, the journey is quite expensive."
"As long as we can get to the other side, the rest doesn't matter much," said Rean. "How much will it cost for two passengers?"
"It's a hundred Rank Five Divine Stones each."
Rean narrowed his eyes a little. That was indeed quite expensive.
Klinron noticed their expressions and explained. "Don't think it is not worth the price. The Glacial Overflow is at its most critical point, and it will continue like this or get worse for the next twenty years at least. Only in the last ten years will it start to go down until it eventually disappears. That said, the journey is a risk even for me and my crew. Of course, you don't have to pay for it. You are free to look for another Warm Boat in the other warehouses, although the prices we practice are all quite similar."
"On the other hand, you can just wait for the phenomenon to be over," Ranfal added on the side. It was the third time he suggested so.
Rean pondered a bit. It was expensive, but teleporting over a hundred continents south would probably wouldn't be much cheaper either, not to mention the much, much longer time necessary for the trip, so he nodded in the end. "Very well."
*Zush!*
He threw a Spatial Ring to Klinron, who caught it and checked the contents inside. Finally, he nodded with a satisfied smile. "Good. Show me your IDs. I'll add you to our ship's system."
And as always, any Golden Tickets and Stones are welcome. ;)
