Death... and me

Chapter 3661: Dead? Really?

Chapter 3661: Dead? Really?

The experts from both sides saw that, shocked. They hadn’t seen any of those organisms attacking on their own. Well, not without first absorbing an expert to transform.

But then, the thing that looked like the giant bacteria didn’t transform like the previous ones after absorbing an expert. Instead, it shot away at high speeds, trying to get away from that area.

"A-After it!!!" The marks were now inside the organism. What does that mean? That meant perhaps they themselves could become the chosen ones. None of them knew exactly what it meant, but both sides had experiences where their chosen ones received great benefits during the opening of this palace, just like Rifindio did. It was as if this place was made for them. How could they let the marks escape like that?

Both sides disengaged, and those who were fighting the transformed bacteria immediately escaped. Nothing was more important than the marks.

Still, the giant organism was really fast. Even running at their full speed, the experts could only barely keep up. They also had to be careful to not touch the other organisms that still floated around, as it would be a guaranteed death.

Little did they notice, but that organism was slightly different from the rest. It knew exactly where it was going, moving deeper and deeper into that region. At such speed, it would sooner or later arrive at the next one.

But then... it stopped! It wasn’t that it wanted to stop, but that there was a cliff in front of it. The huge organism floated, but it only happened near the ground. If it tried to cross, it would instead fall into the cliff. The cliff itself wasn’t exactly deep, just a few hundred meters. Nonetheless, it would be enough for it to get stuck, becoming an easy target. The other side was a few kilometers away, too.

The experts quickly caught up to it, and they didn’t waste time, attacking the organism. Let’s not forget we had experts from both the Pink and Yellow Universes, after all. The first ones to acquire the marks would be the winners here... if they could survive after taking it.

But then...

*Boom!*

Countless red runes suddenly lit up under their feet, and a giant formation activated. Red colored lights, which looked like blades, soon began to shoot everywhere. At the same time, the formation restricted the senses of the experts, while also preventing them from escaping.𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮

The organism was now right in the middle of it, not being affected by any of that. How could the experts not understand what happened? That was not one of the organisms of this region. It was something else, used to lure them into a trap!

*Arrrghhh...*

*nooo!*

*Boom, boom, boom...*

*swish, clash, bang!*

Experts died right left and center, and none of them could escape or reach the organism. No, two did escape with heavy injuries, an angel and a demon beast, so they definitely wouldn’t be a problem anymore. In the end, almost all experts from F951 and F952 Universes died, unable to retrieve the marks.𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦

Suddenly, the organism began to change, becoming hazy... Turns out it was no organism whatsoever. It was an illusion of one. And, from inside, an angel appeared, the same angel that had supposed died.

He wasn’t alone, though. By his side, an expert with a White Light on his chest followed. No doubt this newcomer was an expert from Universe F954. "You sure are ruthless. I always thought angels were compassionate towards their own race, even if they didn’t like others. Yet, you didn’t even flinch as the formation slaughtered the angels from your Universe."

"Hmph!" The angel snorted in disdain. "In front of the possibility of a Celestial Realm breakthrough, what else matters? Yes, if I can help my race, I would do so, but plenty of us are also more selfish; I’m one of them."

"I still don’t understand. Those angels were with you, helping you. If you are that selfish, why not use them to the end?" The guy from F954 asked, confused.

Yet, the angel shook his head. "It wasn’t that simple. At least half of them were doing it with the intention of robbing me of my marks sooner or later. Besides, this information about me being a chosen one was spread as soon as we discovered it in the Golden Palace. Everyone knows I’m the one in our Angel race. So, I had to die. That’s why we allowed two of them to escape. To them, I’m a dead angel, and this information will soon spread as well."

Following that, the angel took a pill, changing his appearance. He couldn’t change the light on his chest, but that mattered not. Only another chosen can identify a chosen through their connection. For any other angel, he would look like someone else from the same Universe, that’s all. "You two did well."

Following his words, the earth below him moved, and a centipede shot out. It quickly changed form, taking the shape of a middle-aged man, although the features of his centipede form were easily seen. He, too, was from Universe F954. "We have no need for your praise. Where is it?"

The angel faintly smiled, touching his Spatial Ring and bringing out a small yellow blob. It emanated a radiant aura and seemed quite malleable. He threw it to the expert on his side, who caught it with an excited expression.

The centipede man also got close, and he was given half of that weird material. "As agreed, half of the payment has been received. The other half shall be given when you find the next chosen and we help you acquire his mark."

The angel nodded, happy with their deal. "That’s good. For the two of you, this thing actually could give you a better chance at the Celestial Realm than this palace. Too bad it is useless for angels like me. Make sure to not show it to anyone else. Plenty of experts will hunt you down if they know you got it."

"Obviously!" Both the centipede and the man put the blob away. For them, it was worth more than their own life. They were at the Peak Stage of the Divinity Realm, and that thing could make the difference when trying to reach the next stage.
