*Rumble!~*
A brilliant light burst forth from above, blindingly bright as it covered the skies and the lands. A heavenly tribulation – a fortuitous event that signified entering a higher level– was unfolding before Yama's senses. The sky darkened, and the air grew thick with electricity as if the deities of timeless age were preparing to unleash their wrath upon the world.
Davis saw this scene and sighed with relief.
It was an ordinary Empyrean Tribulation.
Fortunately, Yama's unique composition didn't attract any untoward attention. However, it certainly brought a ton of position attention as the people in the nearby city rushed out to witness this scene. After all, Empyrean Tribulations in the Lower Realms were rare.
"Look! Is that a scythe that's undergoing a tribulation?"
"A scythe!? You've got to be kidding me. A weapon undergoing tribulation is rare, but a scythe undergoing tribulation is even rarer. I got to watch it!"
"A treasure! A treasure has appeared in the nearby wetlands!"
Thousands of people rushed out of the city. Even the ones who were outside hunting wild, magical beasts were ready to try and snatch this treasure that seemingly appeared out of nowhere.
They refused to believe the ship that was near it could have the owner. After all, who exactly could possess such an unbelievable treasure?Even from a distance, they could sense its terrifying aura. The aura of death and the aura of life swelled in the air. Most of them couldn't tell what it was but they could tell it wasn't light and darkness. Because the heavenly tribulation was quite normal, even if the title Divine Emperor of Death popped into their heads, they shoved it away.
After all, how could he be here? More importantly, how could they let this treasure go when it appeared right on the outskirts?
Greed reveled in their eyes.
Davis and Illumina were aboard the ship and away from Yama, who was hovering in the skies. They shut down the ship's formations in order to avoid angering the heavens.
Moreover, Davis chose to remain here instead of helping Yama. He could help it without receiving any consequences. After all, he was Yama's owner. Armaments were able to undergo tribulation with their masters.
It wasn't any secret.
However, Davis let it be. He wanted Yama to receive the lighting strikes with its body. He should not withstand it. Otherwise, the jump in the grade would be incomplete as Yama wouldn't be tempered to a point that could be considered normal in the Empyrean Grade.
"Come!"
Yama's scythe blade quivered under the dark heavenly clouds, its metal unleashing a low note of excitement.
With a flash of light, the first lightning bolt descended like a hammer. It was thick and appeared like a pillar intended to crush a weapon. It was insanely fast, striking Yama's blade with pinpoint accuracy.
*Bang!~*
Yama fell down, causing Davis's brows to rise.
However, Yama quickly rose back up, ready to receive the second lightning bolt.
It made Davis nod his head. His Yama had been spooked when the lightning hit, but otherwise, it appeared to be full of determination. It made sense since Yama wasn't scared of anyone who was weaker than it, and this tribulation clearly didn't match up to its prowess.
*Bang!~*
The second lightning bolt fell, and Yama easily tanked it. One could see the moment the lightning crashed and exploded into countless arcs; numerous tiny lightning hammers appeared, tempering the scythe.
Yama's scythe body quivered as though it was receiving a good massage.
"Oh damn! It has received two hits! Only one more left!"
Someone shouted in the distance.
Davis wasn't surprised. Most lifeforms that weren't considered life like a pill only received three strikes in total instead of nine or more. It differed for each race and, sometimes, even differed on an individual basis. Nonetheless, for any armament or artifact, they would mostly receive three strikes.
The third and last strike should be much more powerful and it was as expected.
The lightning strike was double the thickness but nowhere near the third strike of what Davis would endure.
*Rumble!~*
The thunder clapped, and the pillar of lightning fell, crashing on Yama.
*Bang!~*
Yama endured it without causing a single nick to appear on its blade.
At that instant, the turmoil in the skies began to dissipate. Yama's scythe began to glow with an intense light. It radiated intense heat, appearing to undergo magical changes within its body as it grew in power.
*Bzzzz!~*
It unleashed powerful undulations, letting the people know it reached Low-Level Autarch Grade.
Quickly, they flew up, intending to take it.
But suddenly, the scythe flew towards the flying ship.
"Stop!"
Many people rushed towards the flying ship. Thousands of Sovereigns took to the skies. However, some stopped, noticing that the flying ship's grade was actually Autarch Grade. Some didn't care, but many of them didn't notice.
They rushed up like a flock of sparrows, following each other's back and intending to get faster than the other as they launched attacks against each other.
But suddenly, an enormous pressure descended.
"Friend, why don't you wait a minute so we can talk about this strange scythe?"
From the distance, a loud voice boomed out.
"Damn! It's the City Lord!"
"If the Boundless Wind City Lord participates, how are we juniors supposed to obtain this treasure?"
Many people lamented.
The flying ship was just about to start its propellers, but hearing the shout… it still didn't stop. It appeared as though it was going to flee.
"Since you don't give face, don't blame me for being a bit rude."
A powerful wave of wind surged from the distance and rattled the flying ship. It didn't cause any damage but practically held the ship from leaving. The tempest of soft winds covering all directions underneath the ship didn't allow it to move. It was sort of like being caught in a spider web. The ship's propulsion ability was rendered useless with this move.
The Boundless Wind City Lord appeared before Davis, standing before him after an elegant landing. At first glance, his features appeared middle-aged, his height was a bit modest, and his build was quite slender. He was clad in a luxurious emerald robe, and his black hair slowly swayed in the wind.
He flipped his hair over to the back, exuding utter confidence and coolness.
"…!"
However, his expression suddenly changed.
His vision blurred.
He could only feel a terrible impact at the chest region, causing him to be sent flying all the way until he was nailed into the hull under the weight of a spear. It caused the whole flying ship to actually sink ever so lightly to the front.
"Ga!~"
The Boundless Wind City Lord coughed a mouthful of blood, but his expression was full of horror as he looked at the purple-robed man before him.
Davis appreciated Lancelot's sleek figure that clearly impaled the Boundless Wind City Lord. He touched the shaft and felt the sheer force of its power still reveling in its body. He absolutely hadn't used any chaotic energy to throw the spear, but it still left the Boundless Wind City Lord practically at his last breath as countless cracks started to appear from the place where Lancelot impaled him.
He simply looked as though he was going to shatter into thousands of pieces like porcelain.
"Bad luck to have encountered me out of all the nine realms I listed, no?" Davis wryly smiled, "Do you want to die or become a slave?"
"Who will become your slave!?" roared the Boundless Wind City Lord.
"Oh, okay. You can die then."
Davis unleashed a bit of chaotic energy. It traversed through the spear and exploded before it could reach the spear tip.
"No-wait!"
The Boundless Wind City Lord's expression contorted in horror when his entire body suddenly shattered. No blood seeped out. Instead, only a grayish-silver mist swirled out. Not even the soul survived, and Davis casually reaped the soul essence.
As for Lancelot, it absorbed the chaotic mist that swirled around the remains. It appeared to grow in power by a minute margin, causing Davis to wryly chuckle.
"Ah, feeding Lancelot is going to be immensely difficult…"
With his hand reached out, he collected the City Lord's spatial ring and life ring. When he investigated, his brows lit up with approval. The City Lord's wealth was comparable to a quarter of what he owned after ripping off supreme geniuses in the Astral Forgeheart Minor Realm.
Clearly, this City Lord should have fairly good connections, which would make it possible for him to learn the whereabouts of the Whispering Wildlands Realm Master's abode.
Davis went one step ahead with soulscouring arts, directly soulscouring a soul essence.
