Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 4471: Disciplining Lucian

Chapter 4471: Disciplining Lucian

"Father, resources aren’t a problem for us-"

"Shut up!" Davis pointed at Lucian and cut him short with a shout.

"...!" Lucian was visibly shaken, and the girl also trembled as she knelt.

"Do you think you can hand over resources from our Treasury just because you became fond of one girl?"

Davis growled in a low voice as he remembered what he said to Ellia back then.

Because his parents placed their hopes on him, he could do whatever he wanted back then as a crown prince.

"That right is reserved for my parents, wives, and children like you but not your spouses. Those who are loyal and talented enough to get us out of an extinction-level mess can also be nurtured heavily. Everyone else needs to work for it. Do you think you can freely hand over our resources to someone else just like that?"

Davis waved his sleeve and pointed his hand at Lucian again, causing him to shake his head quickly.

"No... I... I didn’t mean that way."

"Don’t lie to me." Davis pressed.

Lucian’s expression churned, "I mean... I did think that way, but I am willing to shoulder the costs if it’s not... doable."

"Oh? And how would you achieve that? By going out? As a Divergent? Did you not know you cannot go outside right now since Heaven’s Warriors would be out to kill you? You wouldn’t survive with your current cultivation base that is suppressed because of that matter."

"I’ll take a loan!" Lucian clenched his fists.

"Ridiculous!" Davis waved his hand, "While you drown in debt, she will just leave you for another Young Master."

"Wha-! Father, you’re going too far!"

"Oh? Am I?" Davis raised his brows, "Then how do you suppose she can prove herself that she’s not after your wealth? How do you suppose she doesn’t have ulterior motives and just playing with you?"

"...!" Lucian looked to and fro between Saffira, who kept her head low, and his father, trying to think of a solution.

His heart kept beating loudly, and he felt short of breath. It was as though he had never felt this pressure, even when he had crossed all the tribulations.

"That’s right. You don’t truly know her. You don’t know her background. You don’t know of her true nature and have just seen what she shows on her face and voices out with her mouth. All you know is that she’s kind and lovable. You’re going to make a decision based on just that?"

Davis glared at his son.

If Azariel was too careful, then Lucian was too trusting. His trust did not seem to be misplaced from what Davis had seen. However, would that continue into the future with her or other people?

Lucian did not seem to have an answer as he struggled to say something, realizing that he didn’t know Saffira that deeply and was just infatuated with her. However, he did like her very much and wanted to be with her, but he couldn’t just say it outright, knowing he needed to give the right reasons if he was going to convince his father.

"Forget trying to convince me or the family, for that matter. What do you think your mother will feel when she returns and sees that her one and only immortal son wants to take a maid as his one and only wife? Do you think she will agree? Or even if she agreed, don’t you think her heart will be shattered?"

"...!"

Lucian shook, his expression turning aghast.

His mother, Niera, was his world to him. How could he bear to see her like that? It pained his heart just while imagining it.

He clenched his fists, closing his eyes as he put his head down. He took deep breaths, his heart clenching in waves.

"Father is right... I was too hasty. This won’t happen again."

Lucian let go of his fists and raised his head. He smiled lightly, but it was one of helplessness.

"So I have your word that you will not speak with her again?"

"Yes, as long as you don’t harm her." Lucian heaved a long breath.

"Brat, do I look like a villain to you? In any case-"

Davis lightly smiled as though he was relieved by Lucian’s answer before his expression went cold, and his sapphire eyes gleamed under the moonlit night.

"Is that all your first love amounts to?" There was a deep tone of disappointment in his voice.

"What?" Lucian frowned, both angered and confused.

"Letting go of your first love after just determining to make her your wife just cause I mentioned your mother?"

Davis shook his head, "Don’t make me look down on you. Be a man and fight for her if you truly want her."

"You-!"

Lucian pointed at his father, "What do you want? Are you trying to separate us or trying to support us!?"

He waved his hand, looking out of his wits end. Even tears formed in his voice for being mocked or even because his father was disappointed in him.

"How can I support you two when I don’t know who she is or what you truly want? Do you want her no matter the trouble you’re going to make? Can you shun the family if they don’t approve or are going to make fun of you? Can you shun your mother for it?"

"...!" Lucian trembled.

Now he understood that his father was not just putting him in a spot but making him think of the consequences in the future while he was just being happy-go-lucky, thinking his parents were good to him so everything would go his way deep down in his mind.

"I won’t shun Mother because of it, but I won’t let Saffira go either! I won’t let go the both of them!"

Lucian declared with a red face.

Davis’s lips curled as he raised his head, "Good lad. Be greedy a bit if you want to achieve or obtain whatever you want. I know you’re kind and considerate, but keep it balanced since too much kindness will only make people want to take advantage of you."

"Hmm...!" Lucian clenched his fists, his spirits turning high.

He was now prepared to face the consequences of his actions, and that directly translated his feelings for Saffira to become stronger than ever.

Lucian took a deep breath. He didn’t get ahead of himself, turning to look at Saffira.

"Saffira, do you want me?"

"I don’t dare." Saffira shook her head while still kneeling.

"Rise up," Davis said calmly.

This time, Saffira stood up by herself and raised her head to look at the two of them, her pretty eyes moist.

"Do you love me?" Lucian took a step forward, closing the distance.

"Second Young Master.... I..." Saffira pursed her lips, "I don’t- I love you... but I don’t dare be your wife."

Lucian couldn’t help but smile, "Why not? Because the others would ostracize you and hurt you?"

"I’m unworthy."

"Unworthy? I don’t think so. When my father was our age, he couldn’t even compare to your cultivation. How are you unworthy when you haven’t seen the potential you hold? Whether you are worth it or not for me, I will decide it. You just have to say- yes, I will be your wife!"

"Brat..." Davis muttered under his breath.

Truly, it was the case of a father-like son. Although Lucian was like a little cub, he would become a tiger when a fire was lit up in his heart. Davis already knew that since his son’s attitude and personality would change a bit during the Lunar Eclipse, becoming more aggressive, more confident, and more challenging.

"I don’t dare."

Nonetheless, Saffira still rejected him with a shake of her head.

"..." Lucian looked to be at a loss, all that fervor suddenly losing ground, "You don’t... want me then?"

Saffira shook her head, but tears rolled down her eyes, "I’m afraid... I will drag you down. A lowly maid like me... don’t even deserve to clean your shoes. I apologize for wasting your time, Second Young Master."

She wiped her tears and turned around to run away.

"Who said you can leave?"

Just as she was about to pass Davis, he spoke in a loud voice in a lazy manner, causing her to stop. She trembled and turned to look at Davis, kneeling again.

"I apologize for the transgression, Palace Master."

Davis inwardly sighed. This girl had a severe case of inferiority complex, but considering she was facing him, the Divine Emperor of Death, he guessed even a Realm Master would be like that if he had them in his palm, much less a maid.

"I suppose that you’re afraid harm will befall your parents and your little brother."

"...!" Saffira’s gaze shook, her expression sinking into one of pure fear, "Palace Master! Please forgive my parents! Please forgive my family! They don’t have anything to do with this matter! It’s all my fault! I’ll die! I’ll die! Die! So please- spare them!"

She hit the ground with her forehead, practically making Davis flinch at her outburst.

He was momentarily shocked, not thinking his words would make her react like that. It seems like it had an adverse reaction when all he wanted to say was that-

"I’m not going to punish you or your family. I’m saying that your family will be protected from others if you wish to pursue Lucian. As a future daughter-in-law, how can I allow you to be harmed in any way? Even Lucian wouldn’t be able to harm you if it’s decided that you’re my daughter-in-law."

Davis boldly uttered, causing Lucian to be speechless.

Saffira also came out of her reverie, looking up to see the fearsome Divine Emperor of Death. Her face was full of tears, but her forehead was red and cracked, dripping blood a bit. But in her eyes, there was some change. Perhaps for the first time, he looked no longer as scary as he seemed, causing her to somewhat breathe better.

"Many thanks for considering my situation, Palace Master. However, I still believe that... I’m not a good match for Young Master Lucian. He’s above all and shines bright like a star, while I’m like the dirt in the corner of your house. We don’t match."

Davis couldn’t help but nearly jump at that comparison. He bent down to lift and grasped her arms lightly to lift her up.

"Foolish little girl, no one is above and no one is below, but we’re not equal either. Everything changes with time, and if you strive forward, suffer the hardships, and grow yourself, you will find that you can overcome any challenges as long as you don’t die on the way."

"Palace Master..." Saffira’s gaze shook. His voice was soft and soothing, extremely different from the coldness she had seen even when he walked past her.

Davis let go of her, also healing the injury on her forehead without her even knowing, "As long as you prove that you can strive forward and pursue Lucian, I will support the two of you."

"...!"

Lucian and Saffira looked at each other, their eyes holding a sense of longing.

"But it isn’t so easy. Saffira, you will continue to work as a maid. I won’t stop the two of you from interacting, but the two of you will not be alone in this manner. This will continue until Lucian’s mother returns, and the two of you plead for her approval. Understood?"

"Saffira..." Lucian echoed.

Saffira bit her lips. She was tempted when even the Divine Emperor of Death, the person who could be the most against it and squash their lives with a snap of a finger, told them that they could be together.

"I..." Saffira’s gaze shook, an intense feeling of determination swelling inside her, "I want to be Young Master Lucian’s woman. How can I convince his mother? Please advise me, Palace Master."

"..." Davis nodded with a smile.

Finally, this girl showed some promise, even saying that she wanted to be his woman and didn’t dare to overestimate herself to be a wife. If she still didn’t want to, he could only leave separate them once and for all since he didn’t want her to be an unwanted distraction for Lucian. However, if she could become Lucian’s wife in the future, then she would be Lucian’s priority.

His son was suffering because of a damned physique. He wished he had gotten a woman way earlier.

Lucian smiled with joy. He also appeared beside her and cupped his hands towards Davis.

"Father, please advise us."
