Dragon Tamer

Chapter 661: Underworld Crossroads

Upon reaching the Ancestral Dragon City-State, Zhu Minglang headed straight to the dungeons and dragged Mingji onto the dragon’s back. Zhu Minglang once again had the Azure Phoenix Green Phoenix Dragon fly towards the place swept by the red ripples.

Time Waves were like a gust of wind and like a tide reaching for the sky; they lacked a surging and terrifying momentum, but everywhere they passed, they induced a dramatic leap through time for all things. Flowers and grass grew wildly, trees reached the sky, and small hills could transform into giant mountains in extreme time!

At this moment, the Heart of God’s Time Wave, tinged with a hint of dark red, had already passed Qi Xia and was rolling towards the direction of West Cliff. It still hadn’t fallen and seemed to drift towards a more distant place in the Supreme Court Courtyard Continent.

“You… what are you doing? Flying around in the sky in this kind of night, if we bump into a large group of Night Demons, we’re all going to die!” Mingji said in utter terror.

“We won’t die, Mingji, I’m asking you, can we humans enter the Dark Vortex?” Zhu Minglang said.

“You’re insane!! The Dark Vortex is essentially the crossroads of the City of Darkness; it’s a gathering place for all Nightwalkers. How could a living person enter and possibly come out!” Mingji’s face looked even worse.

“That’s why I need you. You said it yourself in the cell, that you entered the Supreme Court through a Dark Vortex that remained during the day,” Zhu Minglang said.

“You’ve gone mad, truly mad. It’s night now, and instead of taking the path of the living, you want to walk the Netherworld Bridge…” Mingji exclaimed.

“Can it be done or not!” Zhu Minglang asked coldly.

“Yes, yes, yes!” Mingji, feeling the threat to his life, helplessly shouted three times.

Although he had never actually attempted it, theoretically his ability could break the constraints of space, traveling from one spatial tunnel to another.

“You first explain.” Nan Lingsha felt it was somewhat risky, but like Zhu Minglang, she was not willing to give up on the Heart of God of the Mysterious Ancient Giant.

“Our hands have a palm and a back. A piece of paper has a front and a back. A mountain has its front and its reverse. Similarly, space also has a front and a reverse. And the world we inhabit is on the front—what we call heaven and earth, with wind, rain, day and night, sun, moon, stars, birds, and beasts…”

“As for the reverse side of space, that’s the void layer, where time and space are unordered.”

“The Dark Vortex is actually using the reverse side of space to pass through, taking advantage of the streams of time and space in the void layer to accomplish super long-distance traveling!”

Mingji, when talking about his area of expertise, exuded a bit of confidence.

In the Ming God Clan, he had been an inconsequential character, not possessing the lofty status of God’s Descendant nor being as valued as some of God’s people with special talents. But because he had researched the patterns of space, he gradually became an important figure within the Ming God Clan.

Zhu Minglang glanced at Nan Lingsha.

Nan Lingsha was also looking at him.

Both of them actually believed a bit in Mingji’s theory.

“There’s a Dark Vortex up ahead,” Nan Lingsha pointed out with her hand.

A large mass of black fog; they weren’t lumped together but seemed to have a gap like all the dense black fog was rotating into the gap, at first glance looking like a black misty conical hat.

Walking in the dark was already risky, and now they had to step into the crossroads of the Underworld. Mingji truly admired Zhu Minglang’s courage, but in fact, Mingji also wanted to try such a notion.

If they also could use the Dark Vortex, wouldn’t they be able to visit the entire Supreme Court Courtyard Continent overnight??

The Time Wave this time dissipated across the vast territory of the Supreme Court Courtyard Continent; untold amounts of Heavenly Essence and Earthly Splendor matured overnight. If they waited and gathered at each spot, their harvest would obviously be very limited.

But with the help of the Dark Vortex, they could raid the richest spots across the Supreme Court Courtyard Continent quickly, and even without touching the heavily guarded Spiritual Lands, they could make a fortune!

“Do we go in or not?” Nan Lingsha asked again.

“Go in!”

“Go in!”

Zhu Minglang and Mingji said almost at the same time.

The bold get rich while the timid starve. The Time Wave was a gift from the World Dragon Gate to a civilizationally backward land, equating to allowing the Supreme Court Courtyard Continent to suddenly rise to a level that could adapt to the Tian Shu God Domain.

Such an immense outpouring of Spiritual Energy onto the human world, gathering even one thousandth or one ten-thousandth would be enough to become a regional overlord. Everyone else was scrambling, how could they afford to fall behind!

“Weren’t you just afraid?” Zhu Minglang looked at Mingji, whose face was swollen on one side, in surprise.

“As long as it’s successful, I will be the only one in the entire Tian Shu God Domain who can navigate the Dark Vortex!” Mingji suddenly became assertive.

Nan Lingsha was wise to let Mingji live.

This guy really did have some use, and trained well, he could be a… a decent servant.

Upon entering the Dark Vortex, Zhu Minglang immediately felt a bone-chilling cold.

Pairs of sharp and terrifying eyes lit up, scrutinizing Zhu Minglang, Nan Lingsha, and Mingji within the Dark Vortex.

By now, Zhu Minglang had recalled the Azure Phoenix Green Phoenix Dragon and had the Heavenly Evil Dragon carry them instead.

The Heavenly Evil Dragon’s feather changed, already transformed into Dark Form.

Being an entity of the void and darkness itself, as long as it didn’t encounter something too powerful from the darkness, it could barely blend in.

Once they dove into the Dark Vortex, they felt as if they were soaked in cold water, followed by a suffocating oppression, as if their mouths, noses, throats, and chests were filled with mud, extremely painful.

The tail of the Heavenly Slaughter Dragon lit up, and it lifted the Underworld Lamp, which emitted a pale glow that could only illuminate a very limited area around it. It was like a ferryman of the Underworld holding a lantern, guiding three living people across the river of the dead.

The Nightwalkers did not approach.

Void darkness, Heavenly Evil, Underworld Lamp—these were attributes of the ghostly denizens; those evil spirits no longer scrutinized them with their penetrating gazes. One by one, they walked out of the Dark Vortex and began their grim hunt.

“Your dragon is an Underworld dragon,” Mingji said quietly.

Zhu Minglang had already noticed that the Heavenly Slaughter Dragon indeed shared many similarities with those creatures of the night, including a dark and foreboding aura it exuded.

Now, within this Dark Vortex, as the Heavenly Slaughter Dragon’s tail lit up, casting the pale light of the lamp, Zhu Minglang confirmed this point.

Mourning Dragons, it seemed, also only moved about at night.

But the Heavenly Slaughter Dragon was not confined by laws of day and night, which made Zhu Minglang think of a question.

If he were to take down the Yama Dragon one day, would it also only be able to emerge at night?

Or perhaps, once an Underworld Dragon like the Yama Dragon had signed a Spirit Contract with a Human Dragon Shepherd, it could disregarded the laws of day and night just like the Heavenly Slaughter Dragon did!

“Then we are relatively safe,” Nan Lingsha sighed with some relief.

Nan Lingsha had a strong perception and sensed that there were many terrifying beings in the darkness, some of which were even grouped together.

If a real battle ensued, they might not be able to handle it, and their divine status as chosen ones would not be as effective in the territory of Nightwalkers. The evil spirits would crazily swarm over and cling to them to the death.

“Did you think I would have dared to enter this Dark Vortex without a bit of confidence?” Zhu Minglang said with a smile.

Slowly turning its head, the Heavenly Slaughter Dragon glanced at Zhu Minglang.

Your Majesty the Dragon King didn’t know you’re an Underworld Dragon, so how did you figure it out?

Zhu Minglang felt somewhat guilty, and his smile faded.

With the Underworld Lamp leading the way, the live scents of Zhu Minglang, Nan Lingsha, and Mingji were concealed, allowing them to blend into the market of Nightwalkers, witness a parade of spirits, and take stock of the various demons and monsters.

It had to be said, the nightly life of the ethereal inhabitants was bustling, especially at the crossroads where the Dark Vortexes and bridges intersected. There were all kinds of ghosts and monsters: Ghost Gods carrying their own heads, scantily clad Night Demonesses, Dragon-faced Snakes selling their own organs, and Demon Soldiers dancing around the flames of the underworld with human skin skirts…

Nightwalkers were not particularly interested in the hunting of spirits—living humans were their main targets.

Mourning Dragons also seemed to relish in killing and hunting, with humans as their targets too.

Their abilities were bizarre and unknown, their kinds were mixed and indistinguishable, even beyond understanding through conventional knowledge of lineage, reproduction, or natural life.

The instinct of living creatures is to survive.

The instinct of the ethereal Nightwalkers is to kill and torment!

“So does that mean the Supreme Court Courtyard Continent actually has Nightwalkers too, like the Mourning Dragons from the Blood-colored Ground that used to strike fear into the hearts of many?” Zhu Minglang pondered over this question.

“Over here! We really shouldn’t be wandering around in such a dreadful place. There is a spatial stream over there, about to form a passage. If we enter it, we should be able to traverse thousands of miles in a moment,” Mingji was already so frightened that his legs were trembling.

Nan Lingsha clearly couldn’t bear the presence of these strange and terrifying creatures either.

The Heavenly Slaughter Dragon, traversing this Underworld Yellow Springs Road, seemed to be the most charming being present. But as for the others, cobbled together from who knows what and strangely evolved, Lingsha would believe it if someone said this was the crucible of Hell—it was a hundred, a thousand times more terrifying than the scenes from nightmares.

Without the protection of the Heavenly Slaughter Dragon’s Underworld Lamp, their venture into the Dark Vortex this time would not have gone so smoothly and comfortably.

And what they had witnessed was just the tip of the iceberg within the Dark Vortex; those black bridges led to who knows what kind of purgatory or netherworld…

“Let’s leave here for now,” Zhu Minglang couldn’t stand it any longer either.

The Heavenly Slaughter Dragon swam through the dark crossroads, and a Nine-headed Dragon slowly stepped by. Suddenly, it raised its nine heads high and stared at the Heavenly Slaughter Dragon and the three on its back.

The Nine-headed Dragon’s eighteen eyes scrutinized the area covered by the Underworld Lamp as if it could see through the pale light to discern the true identities of Zhu Minglang, Nan Lingsha, and Mingji.

Slowly, the Heavenly Slaughter Dragon spread its wings, and the eye-shaped markings on its wings, resembling orbs of death, gradually glowed with a chilling light!

The Nine-headed Dragon hesitated for a moment, but ultimately chose to keep moving forward.

Only then did the Heavenly Slaughter Dragon retract its wings and swagger down the dark crossroad, swimming towards the direction of the spatial stream.

“Did it recognize us?” Mingji was sweating profusely, trembling nonstop.

“Hmph!” the Heavenly Slaughter Dragon huffed.

“What did it say?” Nan Lingsha asked with curiosity.

“It just showed a sign of aggression to the Nine-headed Dragon and indicated that the three of us living beings were its hunt for the night, to be dragged back and savored slowly,” Zhu Minglang translated with a mixture of laughter and helplessness.

“Clever dragon,” Nan Lingsha praised.

The Heavenly Slaughter Dragon involuntarily lifted its head with pride.

Woman, there is no need for your praise, the Dragon King is well aware of his own cleverness!
