Goyin’s guards acted the moment they realized they had nowhere else to go. One of them pulled out something from their storage bags and immediately released it into the sky.

Something flew high into the sky before exploding and creating a large figure of black smoke like a devilish skull with two large fangs coming out of its mouth.

The sound it created was loud enough that everyone should have heard it immediately.

“Shit!” one of the newly arrived men shouted, realizing that they had just allowed the guards to call for reinforcements.

“Quick! Get the girl before they get help.”

The 6 that had come from the side ran down to fight, while the guards prepared to fight.

Goyin brought out a spear too, wanting to fight, but the guards didn’t let her. She was far too weak.

The fight started, at first with 6 against 5. Two of the guards that had stayed with Alex to look after him weren’t so strong, but the other 3 that had been watching over Goyin were much stronger than any of the 6.

The three by themselves overwhelmed the majority of the other 6, causing each one to step back in fear. However, when the other three from the back joined them, they couldn’t continue to show dominance at all.

One of the 9 new men, the one who Alex believed to be the leader of it all, kept an eye on him at all times, making it so that Alex could not act.

Alex could see their strength too. From where he was, he could do nothing to help as they would be ready for it.

The weaker two guards died at first, and the others slowly caved in to the overpowering force of the other 9. At that point, the leader stopped fighting, his curiosity turning entirely toward Alex.

“You must be the prisoner they have been keeping here for so long,” the man said. “I had heard about you, but I never thought you would be so young.”

“Who are you people?” Alex asked, his eyes cold.

“Enemies of the Sunwardens,” the man said. “We’re on the same side as you.”

Alex didn’t answer. He watched the other fighters, trying to think of what he could do to help Goyin in this situation, but nothing he could do would help at all.

She was just so far away that all his attacks would end up becoming weakened by the time they reached her, which would then be easily thwarted by any of these men.

“What do you want with the girl?” Alex asked.

“She’s going to be the key to us winning this war,” the man said. “Do you wish to help us? Do you wish to destroy the Sunwardens too?”

Alex raised an eyebrow. “I do really want to kill their chief,” he said. “Can you get me out?”

The man smiled. “Swear your loyalty to the Skullheads and I shall let you out.”

“I swear my loyalty to no one,” Alex said. “But I do return favors. Will you free me?”

The man took a moment to think, while behind him the battle began reaching a conclusion. One of the three stronger guards died, unable to hold on any longer, and after that, the others had no way of surviving the onslaught.

They managed to kill 2 of the weaker ones, but in the end, they had all died.

Goyin stood with her spears, her entire body trembling in fear, surrounded by the men. She did her best to stand straight and hold her weapon, as a warrior would, but she could not overcome these men.

They were far too strong.

“I’m afraid I won’t be letting you out then,” the man said. “I do not trust you to return any favors.”

“I understand,” Alex said. “Then you must know something. You have decided to mess with the only other person in this city that I care about. Should anything happen to her, I will make certain you have a fate worse than death.”

The man let out a large harrumph. “For a man stuck inside a prison, you sure can speak big words. I shall wait and see what you will do.”

He turned around. “Let us leave quickly. It won’t be long before someone ends up—”

A sudden explosion caught the attention of everyone, coming from the city. As their heads turned, they saw a large smoke cloud billowing into the sky. And from the sky came down something.

It landed next to the prison with a loud crash, picking up a sandstorm. And it didn’t stop, it moved instantly.

Alex saw the silhouette of a man move in the sand with such speed that he thought an Immortal had come before him. His spear moved, kicking up a wind that cleared the sand.

When one could see again, two of the remaining 7 people were laying dead on the ground. One of them had a hole in his forehead, while the other died from his chest caving into his heart.

The man stood tall, looking at the remaining 5. He was supposed to be a handsome man, but at the moment, he was covered in blood from head to toe, his demeanor one of a monster more than a human.

His eyes were the only thing not red, and they darted all around the place, looking at every situation.

“Shit! It’s Fuxian.”

“The Extolite?”

Fuxian stepped forward, and all 5 of the men stepped backward. The leader grabbed Goyin, a dagger ready to press into her neck.

“Don’t come closer!” the leader shouted. “Move and she will die.”

Fuxian stopped, a look of pure anger surging across his face.

“Do you feel safe?” the man asked. “Do you feel safe with my daughter as your hostage?”

The man raised his spear.

“You’ve gotten me angry right now. You should know there is no greater danger.”

“Don’t you dare move!” the leader shouted. “Do anything and I will—”

The leader suddenly dropped to the side, blood trailing on the ground, with a large gaping hole in his head
