Chapter 2815: The Next Move
Alex looked around for the old man and found him leagues away in the sky, a tiny dot of blackness that could easily be missed underneath the constantly swirling and shimmering sky.
“Senior! You need to get down here!” he shouted at the old man, but at this distance, he wasn’t sure if the old man had heard him or not.
He called for him again, but after not seeing any movement, he had to go over to him. Only… he didn’t want to leave Death. What if he walked away and she reverted back to her old self once she realized she was alone?
It was a good thing he brought Whisker along with him.
Alex brought out Whisker, who appeared on his right shoulder, and gave him the order. “Whisker, go tell the seni—”
Before Alex could finish his words, sword Qi formed around Whisker in an instant, shredding his body on the spot, leaving behind nothing but chunks of flesh that dripped down the side of Alex’s clothes.
Alex immediately stepped back, his sword appearing in his hand as he prepared to fight again.
He prepared for her attack, assuming she had returned to her old state, but she remained the same. Her eyes still looked at him with the same confused look.
She made Alex wonder for a second if there was someone else around that had attacked Whisker. But there couldn’t be. She had attacked him the moment he appeared.
“I can’t call the old man that way,” he said, turning toward the sky to make sure he wasn’t coming. He looked around the place at the empty sand and drew in some text, hoping the old man could read.
Don’t Approach. She’ll Kill You.
Alex wasn’t sure if the old man could read the Demon language. He hadn’t seen the old man write or read anything, so he could only hope now.
Once he was done, he returned his attention to Death. He needed to know why she had killed Whisker when she’d let him live.
It made no sense to him that she should attack Whisker when she didn’t attack him. Why was that? What was different about Whisker that didn’t apply to him?
Was it really just because he had attacked her? Or had she learned to recognize him after killing her hundreds of times now?
Alex couldn’t come up with an answer, so he could only plan on what he had to do next. He still needed to help her soul from the inside, which required him to somehow drain her mentally.
He could try out some formations on her, but first, he needed to get her the hell out of here. Should any member of the Endless Night sect notice the two there, they would immediately come for them.
“We need to hide,” Alex said and walked over to her. He looked into his storage bag and found he had an extra pair of clothes for when he would get killed by Death and had to change. He took it out and put it over Death, hiding her from looking like herself.
Thankfully, Death didn’t act up when he did that.
Alex looked at her again, seeing that almost all that needed to be covered up from the top was covered up.
“The sword still sticks out like a sore thumb.”
He took her hand and tried to get her to release the sword, but her grip was so damn tight that he couldn’t make it budge at all.
Alex attempted to pry away her fingers from the sword using both hands, but he barely could. When he finally got done with one finger and moved to the next, the first one would snap back into place.
“Damn! Just how strong are you?” Alex asked. Was this really just the strength of Elixir?
He decided to pull the sword out of her hand next and grabbed the blade directly to pull on it. He gave it a sharp tug and found it needing little force at all.
Only, when he looked down, he saw his hands bleeding, his fingers on the ground.
“Oh…”
The sword was impossibly sharp.
He looked at the black sword in surprise. Death was already so very terrifyingly strong that he didn’t think anything else about her could surprise him anymore. But of course, her sword had to be just as terrifying as her too.
Alex couldn’t remember the last time a physical sword with no one using it managed to cut his body.
‘Damn, my body is damn near a Divinity too. How sharp is this sword?’
He watched the sword and its owner from a distance, wondering what he could do now. He couldn’t take the sword away from her, but maybe he could make it look different.
He pulled out his blood and put it around the sword. It made it look obviously long, with a large blade coming out the end, like a war axe. Hopefully, that would be enough to make people think the two of them were random nobodies in the desert.
Alex didn’t think they would believe that.
“We need to get away from the border region,” Alex said since most people would come this direction. But, where was he supposed to take her?
Anywhere close to the Core region was just waiting for the Endless Night sect to find them, and anywhere away was letting the entire desert know that Death was moving along there.
Alex looked toward the region of red sand far to his left and sighed. As dangerous as it was, that was perhaps the only option he had left.
“Well, I can make use of those beasts,” he thought. He could not only improve his blood aura with Death’s help, but maybe he could also force her to fight for long enough that she was mentally drained.
“Let’s leave,” Alex said and walked, hoping she would follow him. But Death didn’t react.
So, he took her arm and pulled. Thankfully, she began walking.
Alex sighed in relief and began walking toward the Core region of Hell with Death in tow.
