Michael watched as the maid left his room, an odd expression flickering in his eyes.

“Nobles sure know how to enjoy themselves.”

He couldn’t help but recall a few things about the habits of nobles in the medieval ages back on Earth. This place seemed to share some similarities, at least in certain aspects.

However, Michael wasn’t interested.

Not only did he feel no attraction toward the maid, but the casual nature of it all also put him off.

Maybe it had nothing to do with his lack of interest in her specifically. Still, instead of indulging in whatever fun the people of this world seemed to enjoy, Michael had more important things to focus on.

“It’s a new day.”

Michael let out a sigh.

It was another day in the Land of Origin, and for the first time, he had slept under a proper roof within a civilization.

The thought made him feel a little emotional.

But it also reminded him of just how much he still had to do.

Even though rushing might only make things worse, and his alternative plans were limited aside from sticking close to Mage Lian’s group, Michael decided to go with the flow for now.

A short while later, another knock resounded from the door. Read new chapters at My Virtual Library Empire

Already expecting it, Michael called out, “Enter.”

The door opened, revealing the same maid from before, now accompanied by a few others.

Some carried buckets of steaming water, while others held cloth-like materials in their hands.

“Sorry to disturb you, my lord,” the maid said respectfully. “Your bath is ready. Also, the mayor, taking into consideration that the lord does not seem to have extra clothing, had the town’s tailors prepare some garments for you. They should be close to your size, based on the mayor’s estimations. I hope the lord does not take offense at this.”

“No, it’s okay,” Michael replied.

He was a little surprised—almost enough to show it on his face.

The issue of clothing had been on his mind for a while.

His plan had been to continue wearing his old outfit while figuring out how to acquire local attire. Successfully obtaining new clothes would mean he was making progress in integrating into this world. It would also imply he had money—after all, how else would he have gotten them?

Fortunately, it seemed he wouldn’t have to wait too long before switching out what he considered to be a cosplay outfit for something more authentic.

The maids immediately got to work.

They entered the bathroom attached to Michael’s room.

Since this was one of the VIP rooms, it had a wooden tub. The design and structure took Michael slightly by surprise, but it was functional.

He refused the maids’ offer to assist with bathing and, after ensuring his privacy, sank into the warm water of the tub.

“This feels comfortable.”

After a week in this world, Michael finally had his first proper bath.

Even with his physique—so tough that even molten iron wouldn’t harm him—the warmth of the water seeped into his pores, relaxing his body.

For the first time in a while, he felt truly at ease.

Knowing that the maids would return later to clean the room—especially since he had even given them a specific time—Michael didn’t let himself sink too deeply into the pleasure of bathing. Instead, he focused on quickly washing himself with what was available.

Surprisingly, bar soap was already a thing in these parts, which pleased Michael in many ways. Still, he couldn’t help but wonder if it was the invention of a native in the Land of Origin or the work of someone like him—an Awakened from another realm.

After cleaning himself thoroughly, he changed into the new clothes the town mayor had provided.

Just as the maid had said, the fit wasn’t too far off, which impressed Michael.

It was a black robe paired with black pants. The fabric’s texture and refined appearance made him suspect they were somewhat valuable.

Looking at the mirror in the room, Michael couldn’t help but admire himself.

His hair had grown slightly longer and was a little messy, but instead of making him look unkempt, it added a subtle wild charm.

And then there were his green eyes.

They were dim, as if they absorbed light like an abyss—yet at the same time, they were the brightest thing in the world.

Even with a single, fleeting glance, they left an impression that was impossible to forget. As for his previous clothes, Michael thought about it for a moment before deciding to let the manor staff take care of them instead. He didn’t want to reveal the existence of his storage space or draw any suspicious gazes.

Besides, he also wanted to dispose of the clothes themselves.

As for whether anything bad could happen if the natives of this world got their hands on them, Michael wasn’t paranoid enough to worry about that. He had already seen that, aside from the difference in materials, his old clothes didn’t look out of place in this world’s fashion. There was nothing particularly strange about them that could cause a problem.

Just as he finished adjusting his new outfit and was staring at himself in the mirror, another knock sounded at the door.

Michael told the person to enter.

This time, it was also a maid—but one he didn’t recognize. She hadn’t been among those who had attended to him earlier.

“Sorry for disturbing you, my lord, but the Mayor would like to invite you for breakfast. He would have come himself, but he is currently with the other lord, waiting for you,” the maid said cautiously.

Michael didn’t need to ask who the “other lord” was.

He already knew.

It had to be Mage Lian.

“Lead the way,” he said.

He was gradually getting used to the way the people of this world addressed him. Without realizing it, he found himself slipping into the role naturally.

As a reserved person who preferred to keep to himself—a textbook introvert—his demeanor didn’t seem out of place for a noble.

The only thing that stood out about this “lord” was his accent.

It just felt… a little off.
