In the torrential rain.

Du Wei’s body froze, his right hand, transformed by the Evil Spirit, grasped the neck of the Pennywise Clown, pinning it down firmly.

The white cloth used to deal with the Evil Spirit had already covered most of its body.

It continued to snicker in a low voice, emitting a sharp, hee-hee sound.

And on the other side,

The Evil Spirit Du Wei, wearing a ghostly white mask, took steps towards him.

Even in the state of Spirit Vision, Du Wei didn’t feel any malice.

But the extreme pressure hit Du Wei’s heart heavily with each step it took.

The other evil spirits crowded around it, pressing nearer to Du Wei.

At that moment,

From Annabelle to the nun, the shadow, the Evil Spirit Squad, all the evil spirits followed behind the Evil Spirit Du Wei.

It was terrifying to an excessive degree…

As clever as Du Wei was, so was it.

Given this premise, its nature was that of an Evil Spirit.

There wasn’t any evil spirit that could elicit such instinctual vigilance and caution from Du Wei.

Only oneself truly understands oneself.

Likewise,

The very thing one fears the most is also oneself.

"So, are you afraid of me?”

The Evil Spirit Du Wei suddenly stopped, let out a soft chuckle—not sinister or cold, but rather with a hint of gentleness.

This tone of voice contained a strong psychological suggestion, making it all too easy to let one’s guard down and unconsciously follow the other’s train of thought.

It looked at Du Wei.

Du Wei also looked at it.

As their eyes met,

Du Wei remained expressionless, his demeanor icy, more like an evil spirit than the actual Evil Spirit.

In contrast, the Evil Spirit Du Wei seemed more human than he did.

"Aren’t you afraid of me, too?”

Du Wei, facing his other self, spoke calmly.

But the Evil Spirit Du Wei just laughed, slowly raising its hand and removing its mask.

Immediately afterwards, a pale face was revealed.

"Seeing another version of oneself is quite a peculiar feeling; it’s like looking into a mirror—the outside is you, the inside is me, but now I have emerged from that mirror.”

Holding the mask in its right hand, the Evil Spirit Du Wei walked up to Du Wei.

During this time, the other evil spirits followed closely behind—if this were a play, then it was undeniably the protagonist.

Still, Du Wei showed little reaction; his dark eyes did not waver as he regarded the Evil Spirit Du Wei and even showed a trace of a smile, which appeared exceptionally icy at such a time.

He said calmly, “Psychology is like a mirror; it lets you understand the most authentic self, exposing all the secrets you’ve deliberately forgotten or even never discovered before you.”

"But have you really jumped out of the mirror?”

"Do you really think you are the me that is an Evil Spirit?”

The smile on the Evil Spirit Du Wei remained, it slightly bowed its head, looking down from a higher position at Du Wei, “Why not? Isn’t the version of you that you fear the most the Evil Spirit you? Whether it’s the lurking danger of Evil Spirit Transformation or the pure instinct to survive, you don’t want to become like me.”

With that, it reached out with the mask and slowly covered Du Wei’s face: “In the face of death, you should be calm, but facing me, you should learn to shudder.”

Du Wei’s gaze peered through the empty eye sockets of the mask, watching his other self.

He was utterly certain of one thing in his heart.

The entity before him was definitely not the Evil Spirit Du Wei.

Because the Evil Spirit Du Wei could not possibly communicate with him in such a manner.

It was an Evil Spirit itself, with its own personality and memories.

And it could not manifest in the outer world in any other form.

Because that would mean it had become an independent entity.

Once it became independent, it would no longer be the Evil Spirit Du Wei but an Evil Spirit.

Personality would negate itself, and memory would be completely destroyed.

In other words, Evil Spirit Du Wei would only choose to take over a body, not to possess someone else, or to appear alone.

With that thought.

Du Wei let the Evil Spirit Du Wei place the mask over his own face.

The sensation on his skin was cold and substantial.

It seemed almost real…

But that was all there was to it.

As the Evil Spirit Du Wei placed the mask on Du Wei’s face, its complexion turned gloomy in an instant.

It was like the Clown had initially targeted Du Wei, but ended up becoming Du Wei’s target.

As the Evil Spirit Du Wei masked Du Wei, Du Wei looked even more like the Evil Spirit Du Wei than it did.

Du Wei said indifferently, “So tell me, who is the real Evil Spirit Du Wei?”

Without uttering a word, all the surrounding evil spirits surged over, their gazes filled with malice, staring intently at Du Wei.

But this made Du Wei feel like he was wasting his time.

Therefore, he spoke coldly, “You put this mask on me, trying to change my face to trigger that mechanism, right? But in reality, you can’t do it, because you’re just a fake.”

"The Clown can create illusions that are almost real, bringing back all the evil spirits I’ve encountered and some bodies that have once made my skin crawl, but the fake will always be just that—fake.”

"You are nowhere near the level of my evil spirit self.”

"Even when facing death, I remain calm, but facing you, do you think I’ll be afraid?”

After saying that, Du Wei turned his head away, no longer looking at it, and covered the Pennywise Clown completely with the white cloth, wrapping up the red balloon with it as well.

Soon.

A clown’s silhouette appeared under the white cloth, ferocious and frightening.

If the white cloth were used against the shadow, it probably wouldn’t be effective at all.

Because it was already horrific enough on its own.

The more people it killed, the more dangerous it became.

But Pennywise Clown was different.

In a way, it was the nemesis of the Exorcist, as long as you had a mental weakness or something you feared, it would become incredibly powerful.

But for Du Wei, Pennywise Clown was the weakest evil spirit in the world, comparable to the face of the woman who had died during the face-changing mechanism.

Du Wei was its nemesis…

Pennywise Clown struggled frantically, but its strength grew weaker and weaker, and its silhouette started to collapse, shrinking more and more.

Behind him.

The other evil spirits stared fixedly at Du Wei, one after another, reaching out toward his neck.

But each evil spirit was gradually dimming, including the so-called Evil Spirit Du Wei.

But the next second.

Suddenly…

The body of Evil Spirit Du Wei tensed as if infused with a new source of power, and it suddenly twisted its neck, straightened up, and looked hollowly and lifelessly at the other evil spirits.

"I like quiet…”

It said so, its tone completely different from before, still elegant, but somehow different.

At the same time.

It reached towards the evil spirits with a vain grasp.

Then, all the evil spirits, from Annabelle to the Nun and the shadowy fakes, let out piercing, harsh shrieks.

…Pop…

It was as if balloons were being burst.

The impostors twisted and vanished in the pouring rain.

And the mask on Du Wei’s face also disappeared as if it had never been there.

But this did not make him lower his guard; instead, a chill ran down his spine, and his gaze grew even colder.

After a moment of thought, he quickly gathered up the white cloth, now just an outline of a balloon, turned around, and faced it eye to eye.

"What is this, a meme?”
