Building the carrying frame for Hakuren to transport the male Mereo.
The first day was spent just gathering materials, but judging from our progress, it should be completed by tomorrow.
That meant, at the earliest, we could depart tomorrow night or the morning after.
So, our return would be…
Hakuren, if we use your method to get back, how long will it take to reach the village?
「Hmm? It’ll be quick, really quick.」
No, I get that, but shouldn’t we prepare food and stuff beforehand?
「No need no need.」
You’re saying we’ll get back that fast?
「Of course.」You’re so confident.
Alright, I’ll leave it to you.
「Yeah. More importantly, make sure the carrying frame is sturdy. It’s fine if it ends up looking like a box, just make sure there are plenty of places to hold on to.」
Good point.
Wouldn’t want him falling off.
「Exactly.」

As we chatted, night passed, and the next day arrived.
With the combined efforts of Daga, Gulf, the caretakers at the breeding facility, and others, the carrying frame was completed by midday.
It was finished sooner than expected.
Well, that was to be expected since all I had to do was use my AFT to process the materials, while Hakuren, in her dragon form, assembled them, and the others secured everything in place. ℝἈΝọBΕŚ
The durability was more than sufficient.
Even if the large Mereo were to get on and thrash around, it wouldn’t be a problem.
As per Hakuren’s request, plenty of places one can hold to had been added as well.
We were ready to depart at any time.
The weather was good, so we might as well head back quickly.
The reply to the letter Beezel had delivered said to return as soon as possible.
I had wanted to check out the unfamiliar plant life in this area, but…
Well, I’d probably have another chance to come back.

Hakuren, now in her dragon form, carried the large harnessed frame on her back as the male Mereo climbed aboard.
Joining him were me, Daga, Gulf, and Beezel.
There was an alternative plan where only the male Mereo would ride, and the rest of us would use Beezel’s teleportation magic to move separately.
However, Daga and Gulf were concerned that losing Hakuren from the group would weaken our defensive strength.
They didn’t want to take any risks, no matter how small.
Hakuren assured us that carrying a few extra passengers wouldn’t be a problem, so we all decided to go together.
I was glad that we’d get back quickly, but I had to admit—I’m a little scared.
We were all tied to the frame with ropes to prevent falling off, which only made me more anxious.
When I asked how exactly we’d be traveling, she just said it was a surprise.
Well, I trust Hakuren.
She might pull some reckless stunt, but she wouldn’t do anything that would actually get us killed.
「Alright, time to take off」
I wanted to reply with an “Okay,” but—wait a second.
「What’s wrong?」
No, I mean… those weapons on your arms?
She hadn’t been wearing them while we were assembling the frame, but now both her arms were equipped with those shield-sheathed weapons.
And they were scaled up to her dragon form.
「Wouldn’t they be sad if I wasn’t wearing them when we arrived?」
…that’s true.
You sure they won’t get in the way while flying?
「No problem at all」
Okay….
Alright, then. Let’s go.
We waved to Shirukine-san, the caretakers at the breeding facility, and the female Mereos seeing us off.
The male Mereo called out to the others, promising he’d be back soon.
Then, with all of us secured, Hakuren lifted off the ground with a smooth, gentle rise.
「Oh, right, Village Chief. I won’t be able to talk to you during the flight.」
Eh?
Why not?
「I have to stay focused, or I might take us to the wrong place.」
O-oh…
Got it.
After confirming my response, Hakuren continued to ascend—straight up.
The speed was incredible, but we were likely protected by her magic.
None of us felt any wind resistance or pressure changes.
So, I wasn’t too concerned.
……
……………………
……………………………………………………………………………………
Before I knew it, we had made it all the way to space.
No—probably still within the stratosphere.
The altitude where artificial satellites orbit.
Not quite space.
Almost space.
The view was incredible.
The world below—Earth? It was safe to call it Earth, right?
Seeing this planet from such a distance, and confirming that it was indeed spherical, was breathtaking.
And at last, I understood Hakuren’s method of travel.
She had escaped the planet’s rotation to maximize our travel distance.
Even if we didn’t move, the world itself was spinning beneath us.
Of course, that meant we could only move east-west this way—any north-south movement had to be done manually.
Just as I was processing this realization, Hakuren began a sharp descent.
So, we were going down.
T-this speed is insane!
A-are we actually falling?!
Wait… is Hakuren’s body… burning?!
Oh, this is that thing that happens when spacecraft re-enter the atmosphere!
The air compresses, creating intense heat!
…Yep, I was definitely using logic to avoid facing reality.
This is terrifying.
Maybe passing out like Daga, Gulf, and Beezel had been the right move.
The male Mereo was still hanging in there, though.
G-good. I’d see this through to the end too.
Just as I resolved to endure it, Hakuren’s shields suddenly shattered.
No—split apart and expanded.
What?
The exposed parts beneath were glowing blue.
That… actually looked really cool.
It didn’t seem to serve any real function, though.
I was sure of that.
If it did, the Mountain Elves would have explained it beforehand.
This was purely for show—to surprise me!
Did that mean the full heavy armor set also had a similar mechanism?
I had to see it once we got back safely.
Yes…
That thought was just another way to escape reality.

As we neared the ground, the terrain came into focus…
Ah, right. That area over there was the Forest of Death.
Just as I identified the familiar landmarks, our descent slowed.
We returned to Hakuren’s usual flight speed.
「So, how was it?」
Hakuren’s voice reached me.
W-we could talk now?
Well, yeah—if I could identify the Forest of Death, Village Four, and Big Tree Village, then we were low enough.
「Surprised, right?」
W-well, yeah.
Anyone would be shocked after suddenly witnessing something like that.
It was an incredible experience, though.
「So, where are we landing? Big Tree Village? Or Village Four?」
Oh, right.
Since we were transporting the male Mereo, Village Four would be the better choice.
Go to Village Four.
「Got it! Leave it to me!」
From the Mereo breeding grounds to Village Four—
By my estimate, the entire trip had taken just over an hour.

AN: Ultraviolet and radiation exposure were completely blocked by Hakuren’s magic.
There were no adverse effects on the body.
