First Demonic Dragon

Chapter 1017 - 1017: Trechary Afoot?

Just as Thrudd and Zheng were engaged in their own heated struggle, all across the nine realms of Yggdrasil, different duos of the Tathamet family were engaged in their own battles.

In the fertile lands of Vanaheim, a string of fireworks overtakes a shadowy sky.

Two bright and burning figures collide in a series of clashes. One being the spirit of the former archangel Michael, and the other being the contested future son-in-law, ZIz.

There was a clear mismatch from the beginning.

Ziz, great primordial beast that he is, was hopelessly outclassed against the favored son of god.

He couldn’t match Michael in terms of firepower, combat experience, or weapon proficiency.

Meaning that Ziz had to resort to the only other means of combat at his disposal- running away and playing tricks.

As he flew at breakneck speed, Ziz lobbed magical firebombs at his enemy that were bright enough to light up the sky for miles.

The flames took the shape of giant phoenixes before they screeched loudly and flew into Michael with suicidal intent.

But even without his body, Michael was still Michael.

He maneuvered through the air gracefully- acting as if the heat of the flames didn’t even bother him.

His blade flashed, and the phoenixes were cut apart so completely that they couldn’t reform.

‘Shit…!’

Ziz gritted his teeth as a line of sweat dripped from his brow.

He hated to admit it, but he was hopelessly outclassed here.

His power wasn’t nearly enough to match that of an archangel.

Yemaya and Yemoja would’ve had the power. Behemoth’s hide would have been way harder for him to cut.

But he was just himself now. And what he had wasn’t nearly enough to work with.

‘Gotta think, gotta think..!’

Ziz’s eyes darted towards the sky.

Thanks to his ‘teammate’, the entire sky was covered in darkness. It was dotted by twinkling stars and a waxing moon.

‘…It’ll have to do.’

Zheng flapped his wings hard and doubled his speed. He shot towards the upper atmosphere like a bullet, climbing higher and higher until he got close enough.

When he was nearly there, he called out to one very particular member of the family.

‘Hey there, little murder goddess. If you’ve got the time, I could really use a boost right-‘

He didn’t see the attack coming so much as he felt it.

In an instant, a hand appeared just above his face and slapped him out of the sky like a gnat.

He plummeted from the sky twice as fast as he had ascended. It was so fast that the bird of flame caught on fire without doing so under his own power.

When Ziz crashed into a mountain, the resulting impact created a seismic event that was felt by most of Vanaheim. The ensuing shockwave practically eviscerated all plant life within a hundred miles.

The mountain crumbled from the assault.

Ziz was buried in an avalanche of rubble with a bruise on his face that wouldn’t go away any time soon, and a handful of missing teeth.

Every bone in his body felt broken. His skin felt like it was barely hanging onto his flesh.

Breathing was a shit show. Every shallow inhale was accompanied by a painful wheeze and the hacking of blood.

Through blurred vision, he stared up at the angel looming above him.

Even if his mind and actions were not fully his own, Michael couldn’t hide his kind heart. His gentle spirit.

It hurt him terribly to do this to one of his father’s creations. He could have cried if his body were still his own.

“…I’m sorry. I didn’t have a choice.”

Ziz spat out a mouthful of blood in response.

“Fuck load of good ‘sorry’ does me now… My face is my only good point, and now look what’s happened to it…”

Even speaking was difficult for Ziz at the moment. Something Michael was acutely aware of.

“Don’t talk. You don’t have the strength.”

Ziz would have laughed if he wasn’t sure that would be the last straw to getting a broken jaw.

“And whose fault is that..? If I gotta kick the bucket, then I’m not going quietly, Daddy’s boy…”

Michael’s brow furrowed, and a look of confusion showed upon his face that Ziz couldn’t decipher.

“You… you’re dying.” Michael seemed stunned by the revelation.

Something that Ziz didn’t understand at all.

“You seemed mighty surprised for the culprit…”

“I just… I expected that you would be one of his own by now.”

Ziz’s expression became one of unbridled bitterness.

“…Fuck you, Pigeon.”

Michael was unbothered by the bird’s callousness. He displayed the very same sense of patience that had led others to describe him as a saint.

For a long time, he just stared at the bird. Ziz thought he was just content to watch him die.

And then there was a change.

Michael descended from the air and landed beside Ziz.

He grabbed the bird’s shirt roughly, almost like he was threatening him. But Ziz knew better.

It was slow and barely noticeable, but Ziz was being healed. Though only enough so that he was no longer on the verge of death.

What’s more, Ziz felt something get inserted into his pocket.

“What the hell are you-“

“Forgive me, majestic creature. Don’t tell anyone about this.”

Before Ziz could ask any more questions, Michael punched him in the face hard and knocked him unconscious.

Meanwhile, Ziz’s teammate was faring so well that she didn’t need help. And nothing could knock her from her perch.

Nyx, in all of her boundless beauty and glory, sits proudly in umbral armor atop a chariot made of shadow and stars pulled from the sky.

Cracking noises fill the sky as her whip cuts the flesh of her enemies with chilling ease.

She cackled at the angry roars of Beelzebub as she raced through the air- moving far too quickly for the portly demon to keep up with.

“All of that new power, and not a lick faster, are we, Beelzebub? What a waste!”The bulbous blue demon snarled at her in response.

“Keep making jests, witch! I hear whispers that your children are not so secure!”

Beelzebub felt the very air change.

Vanaheim is a region dense with dense humidity and warmer temperatures. But the temperature dropped so rapidly that for a few seconds, the demon thought that he had gone through a portal to Jotunheim without realizing it.

Nyx was a nightmare.

The rattling of chains and the whining of horses cut through the quiet of the realm and sent chills down Beelzebub’s spine.

As he looked at her, his vision slowly began to get consumed by darkness. He could only imagine that it was like he was going blind.

However, when Beelzebub looked down at his hands, he realized that he could still see them.

That was by far the worst-case scenario.

“I need you to open up your greasy little ears and hear me well. If you go near my children, not even god will be able to hide you from me.”

Beelzebub followed the chilling voice over his head.

All he could see were a pair of giant eyes staring down at him. Malevolent and beautiful all the same.

Being pinched is annoying, but tolerable.

Being pinched and pulled is cause for irritation.

But being pinched and pulled apart, cell by cell, is an excruciating agony that the human mind cannot comprehend. And for good reason.

However, demons, especially the genetically modified variety, are different stories.

Beelzebub was painfully aware of everything. His new regeneration meant that the torture just didn’t stop.

All the while, Nyx held him in the palm of her hand, watching as his flesh was pulled apart, only for it to grow right back.

“Pull me out… pull me out!”

Nyx had no idea who Beelzebub was yelling to, but whoever it was apparently heard him.

The large blue demon blinked out of her vision.

Nyx, believing she had a lock on the space, was understandably frustrated.

As the sky returned to normal, she could be seen once again in her usual, more diminutive form.

Her teeth gnashed together in anger.

But out of the corner of her eye, she noticed a rather troubling sight.

Michael, lording over a badly injured Ziz with a sword in his hand.

Nyx didn’t know if she felt compelled to save Ziz, or if she just really needed something to hit.

Either way, she steered her carriage out of the air and rocketed towards Michael.

Michael felt the hairs on the back of his neck stand up.

He met eyes with Nyx, and found no small amount of rage contained within.

“… It’s your win for the day, night mother. Enjoy it.”

Nyx’s whip cut through empty air as Michael too disappeared.

Her body temperature rising, she crashed to the ground beside Ziz.

“God damnittt!!!!”

Instead of checking on the downed bird, Nyx cursed the sky for an extended period of time.

She heard movement coming from behind her and turned around to find Shin standing around with the other members of his order.

“We, uh… we didn’t get to do anything.”
