First Immortal of the Sword
Chapter 2149 - The Billowing Blue Realm, the Corpse in the Demon Crow MountainsChapter 2149 – The Billowing Blue Realm, the Corpse in the Demon Crow Mountains
Yi Daoxuan lived a bitter life, but his Dao of the Sword was legendary!
Endless adversity and countless setbacks let his Dao of the Sword undergo repeated transformations.
His innate talent, the Nine Apertures Sword Meridians, was like adding wings to a tiger. They let him advance rapidly in his pursuit of the Grand Dao and soar to prominence.
Now, all of his legacies and experiences were Su Yi’s.
Simply put, Yi Daoxuan’s Dao of the Sword was something like this:
When he defended, nothing could break him, and when he attacked, there was nothing he could not break!
He had offense and defense in equal measure.
His Dao of the Sword didn’t strive to kill his enemies. Rather, it strived for steadiness at every step of the way.
At his peak, even when Yi Daoxuan was surrounded by numerous others of comparable strength, his defenses were airtight, without the slightest opening to exploit.
And if they let him seize an opportunity to attack, he struck like an axe through rotten wood! There was nothing he could not cut!
This Dao of the Sword was similar to Yi Daoxuan’s personality. He was steady and determined. When he was still, he was as unyielding as a mountain. When he attacked, he was as tyrannical as lightning!
As he fused with Yi Daoxuan’s Dao Imprint, Su Yi finally understood just how terrifying Yi Daoxuan was at his peak.
Setting aside his peak Nine-Tribulation Undying Realm cultivation base and focusing purely on his Dao of the Sword, he was all about “stability.”
Stable in that he was unshakeable, with no weaknesses to exploit, but also stable in that when he attacked, his enemies were sure to perish in a flash!
Just like that, he fused with Yi Daoxuan’s Dao Imprint. By the time the process was complete, Su Yi finally understood what Yi Daoxuan had meant by “unwilling and unable to let go!”
He was unwilling to let his numerous blood debts go unrepaid! These grudges included being framed by his former sect, betrayed by his brothers, and stabbed in the back, but also numerous slain friends and family members.
As well as numerous attempts on Yi Daoxuan’s own life!
He was unwilling to let go because, in the last moments before his death, he realized how much he’d left unresolved. There were kindnesses he’d never repaid, family and friends he’d never reconciled with, promises he’d never fulfilled….
There were just too many, because although Yi Daoxuan lived a life full of pain and adversity, he had numerous benefactors, friends, and loved ones!
He’d even gotten married and had children. He had numerous descendants, too.
He’d joined and cultivated numerous factions over the course of his life, and even founded a sect of his own with countless disciples!
As he grasped all of Yi Daoxuan’s bonds of love and friendship, Su Yi couldn’t help but be rueful.
It was the people he cared about that really left Yi Daoxuan so unwilling to let go as he died in battle!
Of his past lives, Li Fuyou was undoubtedly the most unrestrained. He severed all ties of right, wrong, good, and evil. He was above it all, detached, free of karmic attachments, and solitary.
Even when he died in battle, he felt little resentment. He saw his death as proof of his insufficient strength, not of his enemies’ invincibility.
He and Yi Daoxuan were at different extremes.
Hm? Suddenly, Su Yi realized that something wasn’t right. Where… Where am I? Am I alive or dead? What’s my current situation?
But as soon as he asked himself these questions, an explosion went off in his head, and he sank into muddled unconsciousness once more.
……
The Billowing Blue Realm was one of the thirty-three subsidiary worlds of the God Domain. It bordered the Southern Flame Divine Continent.
There was a stretch of ancient mountains along its borders. Their slopes were covered in towering trees.
A Bloodwing Vulture circled overhead. It had just spotted a lifeless corpse sprawled out in an ancient forest, entirely unmoving.
This was just the kind of prey the Bloodwing Vulture was looking for.
It patiently surveyed the corpse for a while until finally, it couldn’t stand to wait any longer. It beat its wings and dove.
Its sharp claws extended like blades, then closed on the corpse.
But before they could tear into it, a bone spear shot out of the distant force, quick as lightning, piercing the vulture’s skull.
Boom!
The Bloodwing Vulture was enormous, with a wingspan of over one hundred feet. When it slammed to the ground, it let out a single wail before consciousness fled it.
At the same time, a delicate, nimble figure shot out of the distant forest.
A young woman clad in beast skins.
Her legs were long and straight, and her skin was the color of wheat. Her features were delicately beautiful, and her eyes shone like stars. Her soft hair was cut just beneath her ears, and when it blew in the wind, it revealed her slender neck.
She had a lively air about her, and she moved nimbly and deftly.
When she arrived, she looked first at the Bloodwing Vulture. Once she confirmed that it was dead, she sighed in relief. Only then did she turn her attention to the corpse sprawled out on the ground.
“Strange. What’s a dead body doing here?” The young woman was obviously a bit disappointed.
She’d been hunting and gathering medicinal herbs in the mountains when she felt a sudden, inexplicable sensation, as if something were somehow calling to her.
She almost suspected that she’d detected some sort of good fortune!
She’d come here to test her luck, letting that strange feeling guide her here, but the good fortune she’d anticipated was nowhere to be found. All she saw was a corpse!
“And here I thought good fortune had finally come my way. Who’d have thought I’d run into some dead guy instead? How inauspicious…” grumbled the young woman.
An abundance of medicinal herbs and divine materials grew in the Demon Crow Mountains, so cultivators explored them year-round.
However, the mountains were also home to all sorts of spirit beasts, and they were full of hidden perils. It wasn’t at all unusual for cultivators to die here.
The young woman had seen it before, and she no longer found it strange.
“Oh well. Since I’ve found him, I’ll give him a proper burial. At least that way, the wild beasts won’t eat him. That’d be awful…” The girl sighed, then dug a pit nearby.
But just as she was about to pick up the corpse and place it inside, she froze.
The corpse had opened its eyes!
Whoosh!
The young woman shot backward and grabbed her spear. Her eyes went wide with astonishment. Is… is that a zombie!?
But when she examined the “corpse” again, she found that although it had opened its eyes, it was still just lying there, unable to move. It didn’t seem dangerous at all.
“Did your eyes open because you’re unable to find peace? Rest assured: I’ll give you a proper burial, and I’ll even build a beautiful tomb for you. I’m sure you’ll be able to rest in peace then,” said the young woman, as if to comfort the corpse. “If you believe me, please, close your eyes. Staring at me like that is creepy…”
“….” Su Yi didn’t know what to say. She seriously thinks I’m already dead!? Actually, it makes sense. In my condition, how am I any different from a corpse?
The corners of Su Yi’s lips twitched, and he smiled bitterly.
“The corpse is smiling!” The young woman jumped in fright and instinctively raised her spear to stab Su Yi.
Splurt!
The spear pierced his thigh.
“….” Su Yi didn’t feel any pain. His body was already like cracked porcelain, on the verge of breaking completely. He had no energy left whatsoever.
Compared to the severity of his wounds, the young woman’s attack barely even itched.
Still, it made Su Yi furrow his brow. He said irritably, “I… am not… dead!”
His voice started and stopped, and it was as weak as could be.
“You’re not!?” The young woman froze, stunned. A moment passed before she realized what was going on here. This is no corpse! This is someone so badly mangled that he looks no different from a corpse!
She hurriedly extracted her spear, then said sheepishly, “I’m sorry. I thought… you were already dead.”
Su Yi really wanted to flick her forehead and laugh, “What’s wrong with your eyes? You can’t even tell that I’m still alive?”
But to his immense frustration, he couldn’t move. It wasn’t just his physical body that was severely injured; even his soul and cultivation base were depleted to the brink of collapse. His body had practically been hollowed out, almost as if it were detached from him.
“Sis!”
A group shot over from afar. All of them wore clothes sewn together out of beast skins. The men were coarse and fierce, and the women were wild.
They were like barbarians from a primitive age.
“Who is he?”
“Is that a corpse?”
“What happened to him? Why are his injuries so bad…?”
When they noticed Su Yi, all of them started talking about him.
Su Yi was a bit frustrated. He didn’t like having others comment on him like this, but there was nothing for it. He couldn’t move.
“Ling’er, the Golden Crow Suns are about to set. We have to hurry back to the village. If we wait until the Demon Flame Purple Moon rises, we’ll be in trouble,” a stalwart youth said solemnly.
The girl he called “Ling’er” was the one carrying the bone spear.
She bit her lip, then gestured to Su Yi. “Bring him with us.”
What? The others were stunned, then hesitant.
The stalwart young man frowned. “Ling’er, we have no idea where this guy came from. How could we possibly bring him back to the village?”
“But he’s so badly injured. If we leave him here until nightfall, he’ll be doomed,” Ling’er said firmly. “I found him, so I can’t just let him die. Once he’s recovered, we can send him on his way.”
The tall, stalwart youth tried to stop her, but Ling’er had already walked over and put Su Yi on her back.
“Ling’er! Don’t tell me you’ve forgotten the elder’s orders? We aren’t allowed to bring outsiders of unknown origins into the village!” said the stalwart youth.
Ling’er looked up at him stubbornly. “He’s human, just like we are! If we don’t save him, who will?”
Human!
When he heard this line of reasoning, Su Yi’s eyes narrowed.
Between that and the talk of the Golden Crow Suns and Demon Flame Purple Moon, Su Yi could guess where he was. This was most likely the Billowing Blue Realm, one of the God Domain’s thirty-three subsidiary realms, and it was along the border of the Southern Flame Divine Continent!
The Billowing Blue Realm was yao and demon territory.
All manner of yao and demons lived here, and even the cultivation factions were primarily Demonist or of the Yao Path.
Humans were by far the weakest, and they occupied the lowest rungs of the Billowing Blue Realm’s society. They were dominated and even enslaved by the yao and demon majority!
Thus, the humans living in the Billowing Blue Realm lived humble, difficult lives.
In some places, humans had no protections at all. They were slaves, and others could do with them as they saw fit!
In truth, almost the entire Southern Flame Divine Continent was yao and demon territory. It was also the home of most of the God Domain’s Six Great Yao Ancestors and Twelve Great Demon Masters!
That aside, many of the God Domain’s top Demonist and yao factions were based there.
For example, Feng Wuji’s ancient Feng Family, the descendants of the Rahu Yao Ancestor!
Meanwhile, when he saw that Ling’er wouldn’t change her mind, the stalwart young man sighed and relented. “Fine. When we get back to the village, you explain the situation to the elder.”
However, when he looked at Su Yi, his gaze was full of aversion and enmity.
