Chapter 2166 – A Reward

Seeking reconciliation!? The little monkey bared his fangs. Does that little girl really think so little of my master? She seriously thinks he needs to smooth things over with the Celestial Yao Mountains?

Su Yi, however, just laughed. He couldn’t be bothered to explain. Their perceptions of reality were different. Explaining would be a waste of effort; it would only lead to further misunderstandings.

“If you and that senior are willing to take a few steps back, I’m sure the Celestial Yao Mountains will be willing to set aside all this unpleasantness,” Yang Shuang’er said solemnly.

She thought she was right on the mark!

……

Late at night. The purple moon hung overhead.

The Divine Replenishment Furnace emanated purple divine radiance and billowing waves of dense medicinal fragrance.

Su Yi sat cross-legged beside it, his nearly ruined, depleted body enveloped in medicinal power imbued with divinity.

Every inch of his skin was torn, his flesh was battered, and his tendons had snapped. They were like a dried-up riverbed, but that medicinal power was like an influx of fresh water.

It nourished his exhausted cultivation base and severely damaged organs. Even his badly injured soul was gradually recovering.

When Su Yi sensed these changes, he felt so good that he almost couldn’t help but moan.

After becoming a cripple, all he could do was lie around all day or sit in a wheelchair while A’Ling pushed him. He hadn’t even been able to lift a finger. Su Yi now truly understood what it meant to be unable to control one’s own body.

But now, all of that was changing!

Now that he could access the Divine Replenishment Furnace, he could access the divine medicines and Undying Materials hidden inside, too.

He wouldn’t be able to recover his peak strength anytime soon, but he would recover. To Su Yi, that was enough!

A little less than ten minutes later, he’d used up three stalks of divine medicine.

However, his wounds had barely improved. The difference was minuscule.

There was nothing for it. His wounds were far too severe. That almost lethal strike had been far too terrifying. Su Yi couldn’t help but suspect that in his place, even a Master God would have died a long time ago.

He’d survived, in part because of his fourth incarnation’s Dao Imprint, in part thanks to the Sword of the Nine Hells!

“Master, your wounds are far too severe. Even if you use up all the medicine we have, it might not make much of a difference,” the Divine Replenishment Furnace said with concern.

There were fewer than thirty types of divine medicine currently in the furnace, and around ten Undying Divine Crystals.

“That’s fine. If they do anything at all, it’s enough,” Su Yi said casually.

The Divine Replenishment Furnace dared not be negligent. It continued refining divine medicine and helping Su Yi treat his wounds.

……

Meanwhile, beneath the same night sky.

Madam Cheng Bi sat at her desk in the Fire Cauldron City branch of Heaven’s Net, frantically scrawling something beneath the swaying lamplight.

It was a secret message. As soon as she finished it, she’d send it to Heaven’s Net’s headquarters in the Billowing Blue Realm.

“Xiao Jian is under the protection of a yao god…”

She’d only just written this when she fell into a brief daze. She couldn’t help but recall the terrifying scene she’d witnessed earlier today.

Madam Cheng Bi had been outside Grassy Creek Village today too. It was just that she’d hidden herself the entire time.

Thus, she witnessed the demise of the armies of the eight great orthodoxies of the southern border with her own eyes!

A single strike, and hundreds of ships and over a thousand experts were reduced to ash! And it was an incomparably powerful yao god who’d done it!!

When Madam Cheng Bi saw it from her hiding place, she was terrified out of her wits. Her knees even turned to jelly, and she fell limply to the ground.

Even if you’d hit her over the head, she could never have imagined that a cripple like Xiao Jian would have a yao god accompanying him!

It was only after returning to the Fire Cauldron City branch of Heaven’s net that she finally understood why Xiao Jian had been so fearless this entire time, and why he dared to disregard the eight great orthodoxies of the southern border.

With a yao god like that by his side, even if all of the eight orthodoxies fought together, they’d be no more than clay chickens and porcelain dogs!

“Fortunately, I didn’t offend him earlier. If I had…”

The thought of the consequences made Madam Cheng Bi’s snowy, impressive figure quiver uncontrollably.

“I’ve got to report this to headquarters as soon as possible. I can’t let them casually investigate Xiao Jian any further. Doing so would be a show of disrespect for the yao god accompanying him!”

She took a deep breath, but just as she was about to continue writing, a figure appeared beside her out of nowhere!

It was a roughly ten-foot-tall monkey with fiery golden eyes. He was dressed in dull gray robes, and he stood there in silence, but the pressure emanating from him was suffocating.

Plink!

Madam Cheng Bi’s brush slipped from her grip, and the blood drained from her beautiful face. It’s… it’s that yao god!!

“My master says that you’re a clever woman, and you did him a favor, so he sent me here to deliver you a reward as thanks.”

The little monkey took out a storage ring and placed it on the table.

A reward? Madam Cheng Bi’s mind went blank.

The little monkey didn’t explain. He just said, “If possible, we’d like to trouble you to dispatch Heaven’s Net’s forces to deliver a message to the eight great orthodoxies of the southern border. Tell them exactly what happened today in Grassy Greek Village.”

Madam Cheng Bi said hurriedly, “That would be no trouble at all! Rest assured, Your Excellency. I’ll send the message tonight!”

The monkey inclined his head. “Thank you.”

With that, he turned around and vanished into thin air.

A long time passed before Madam Cheng Bi gradually came to her senses. If not for the storage ring on the table, she’d have suspected that she’d dreamed that entire encounter!

“If he rewarded me, it’s because he doesn’t want to owe me a favor. And if he wants me to send word to the eight great orthodoxies, it’s surely intended as a warning…” murmured Madam Cheng Bi. “Fortunately, it seems that Xiao Jian and that yao god aren’t interested in wanton massacres. Otherwise, the eight great orthodoxies of the southern border would surely vanish from the face of the Billowing Blue Realm!!”

As she pondered, she picked up the spatial ring. She was intensely curious. Just what kind of reward had Xiao Jian given her?

When she saw the ring’s contents, she was unwittingly stunned.

It was a legacy full of information regarding breaking into the Immortal Dao!

Madam Cheng Bi was an expert of the Path of Transcendence. She really wasn’t far from proving her Dao and achieving immortality.

To her, a reward like this was an incomparable stroke of good fortune, the kind she longed for even in her dreams!

“All I did was answer a few of his questions and share some information. It wasn’t top secret or anything, either. Yet he… gave me a reward beyond my wildest dreams…”

Madam Cheng Bi sat there in a daze, waves of emotion crashing through her heart.

……

Meanwhile, in Grassy Creek Village.

“I’m… surnamed Yi? My family of origin met its end at the hands of the Celestial Yao Mountains? How… is that possible…?”

Yang Shuang’er stood there in a daze, her expression shifting and uncertain.

Li Changqing had just told her the full story, but Yang Shuang’er couldn’t accept it all at once.

The Celestial Yao Mountains were one of the primary culprits behind the Yi Family’s demise, but she was cultivating there!

This reality was unquestionably far too cruel.

“Shuang’er, whether you believe me now or not, you’ll be setting course for the Celestial Yao Mountains tomorrow. You’ll understand soon enough,” Li Changqing said warmly.

After a moment’s silence, Yang Shuang’er said, “I refuse to believe that my master would hurt me!”

Li Changqing paused, then let out a deep sigh. He knew that this was hard for Yang Shuang’er to accept, but he was also convinced that the truth would soon come to light. She’d understand then.

……

It was late at night when Su Yi awakened from his meditation. A bitter smile tugged at his lips.

He’d exhausted all of the divine medicines and Undying Divine Crystals he’d had, but his wounds were still less than ten percent cured.

He’d barely recovered any of his cultivation base, either.

Su Yi understood why, too.

First, his injuries were just too heavy. There was no way he could make a full recovery on short notice.

Second, his foundations in the Divine Dao were just too firm!

Were he any other Creation Realm Lesser God, those medicines and Undying Divine Crystals could have replenished his cultivation base countless times over.

But to him, it was like pouring a cup of water on a raging fire!

Fortunately, I’ve finally recovered some of my cultivation base. Even though my wounds are still severe, so long as I don’t get into any fights with gods, no one will be able to hurt me, thought Su Yi.

He was currently within the bounds of the God Domain, but the Billowing Blue Realm was far removed from the enmities and storms of his past.

This meant he had the time and patience to gradually treat his wounds and restore his cultivation base.

But I can’t afford to get complacent, thought Su Yi. The Billowing Blue Realm is one of the God Domain’s thirty-three auxiliary realms, and it borders the Southern Flame Divine Continent. The enemies who tried and failed to intercept me on my way here aren’t going to let up, either.

And the God Domain is their territory. They won’t even need to take action personally. All they have to do is issue orders, and most of the God Domain’s orthodoxies will work on their behalf to hunt me down.

I’ll have to keep a lower profile going forward, and ideally, adopt a new, unknown identity.

Su Yi furrowed his brow. In his crippled state, he couldn’t change his appearance, and no small number of people knew what he really looked like.

If his enemies searched the Billowing Blue Realm, they’d surely be able to find clues!

Su Yi would never underestimate how terrifying his past lives’ enemies were. He didn’t even need to think to know that even if he tried to destroy all the leads now, it would be too late.

He made up his mind. It seems I’ve got to hurry up and leave the Billowing Blue Realm before my enemies come looking for me here.

But there were still a few things he needed to resolve before he left.

Whoosh!

Su Yi flipped his palm and put the Divine Replenishment Furnace away. Then, he said, “Little monkey, come with me to the Demon Crow Mountains.”

The little monkey had already returned. He immediately agreed.

It wouldn’t be long until the sun rose.

The little monkey had strength comparable to a Greater God. With him leading the way, Su Yi reached the heart of the Demon Crow Mountains in moments.

The night was dark and deep. The purple moon hung overhead, casting its dreamlike purple radiance on the world below.

Ordinarily speaking, this was when the beasts of the Demon Crow Mountains were most active. All of them wanted to take advantage of the night to absorb the essence of the purple moonlight.

But when the little monkey unleashed the characteristic aura of a yao god, the mountains fell utterly silent. All of the beasts huddled up in their burrows, too terrified to emerge.

“We’re here.”

Su Yi arrived at the place where the blood-red sword qi had appeared.

There was no sign of it tonight, but that couldn’t stop Su Yi.

He hadn’t recovered much of his cultivation base, but he could now easily access all of his fourth incarnation’s memories!

The blood-red sword qi really was Yi Daoxuan’s work. It was connected to a hidden realm Yi Daoxuan had left behind!
