Chapter 2168 - Being Born Human, the Unfairness of Fate

Chapter 2168 – Being Born Human, the Unfairness of Fate

A Wandering Sun God of Qingwu Divine Court!

Su Yi’s eyebrows rose as he thought back to the distant past.

The little monkey asked, “You’re waiting here for me?”

Cai Lei, the man in white robes, said, “That’s right. Yesterday, while doing my rounds along the southern border, I heard that a yao god had appeared near the Demon Crow Mountains, and I came to investigate.”

“Oh,” said the little monkey. “And?”

Cai Lei’s brow furrowed imperceptibly. This monkey-like yao god doesn’t seem the least bit afraid of me!

He paused briefly, then said, “As a Wandering Sun God, I do my rounds in the Billowing Blue Realm and monitor the good and evil deeds committed here. Now, I’d like to know your name, origins, and what you’re doing here.”

As he said this last part, his gaze sharpened, and he emanated an invisible, formless aura.

The little monkey instinctively looked at Su Yi, who suddenly interjected, “Is Lu Qingwu still alive?”

Cai Lei froze, and his expression darkened. “Impudent! How dare a junior like you disrespect our founder!”

Boom!

A ferocious, terrifying aura emanated from the little monkey, and his eyes blazed like golden torches. He bared his fangs and asked, “Who are you calling impudent?”

Cai Lei looked stricken. He could tell that the monkey’s terrifying aura wasn’t one whit weaker than a Fortune Realm Greater God’s!!

“What’s the meaning of this? Surely you don’t want a grudge with the Qingwu Divine Court?” Cai Lei snorted coldly. “You might be a yao god, but as I’m sure you’re aware, the Billowing Blue Realm is under the Qingwu Divine Court’s jurisdiction! If you cooperate, I won’t make trouble for you, but if you refuse…”

Whap!

The little monkey slapped Cai Lei in the face. He didn’t use a lot of force, but the strike made a crisp, clear sound.

The left side of Cai Lei’s face reddened and swelled at speeds visible to the naked eye, and there was a bloody, hand-shaped imprint on his cheek.

“You…” Cai Lei was furious, and his mind went blank. Who is this guy? He knows I’m a Wandering Sun God of Qingwu Divine Court. How could he be so brazen as to attack me like this?

The little monkey couldn’t be bothered to waste time talking, so he just asked Su Yi what to do next. “Master, should I kill him?”

Cai Lei’s pupils constricted. That young man looks as weak as can be. How could he possibly be that yao god’s master!?

He instinctively realized that this didn’t bode well, so he endured the humiliation of that slap and said gravely, “I’m just here to talk. Why humiliate me? Don’t you think you’re being overly domineering?”

It would have been obvious to anyone that this Wandering Sun God of Qingwu Divine Court was wimping out!

Su Yi said, “It’s not that we’re overly tyrannical, but that you have no manners. This silly little monkey hates nothing more than others’ threats, but all he did was slap you. That was already a show of mercy.”

“…” Cai Lei didn’t know what to say to that. What’s that supposed to mean? He slapped me, and now you want me to express gratitude that he spared my life?

But in the end, Cai Lei endured his humiliation and just snorted coldly, “Watch yourselves, you two!”

He turned to leave. He could tell that they weren’t at all concerned about his status, and he feared that staying would only lead to further humiliation.

But before he could go, Su Yi said, “Wait up.”

Whoosh!

The little monkey shifted, blocking Cai Lei’s path.

“What are you trying to do?” Cai Lei’s expression was instantly unsightly.

“Don’t be afraid. I just want to confirm something,” Su Yi said with a laugh. “Are you really just here because you inadvertently learned that a god had appeared in the Demon Crow Mountains while doing your rounds, or do you have other intentions?”

Cai Lei growled, “I don’t even know who you are. What ‘other intentions’ could I possibly have?”

Su Yi nodded. “I hope that’s true. Little monkey, capture him, but take care not to kill him.”

“Got it!” said the little monkey.

Cai Lei was instantly frantic. He cried out, “What are you doing? I said I have no idea who you are, so why are you…”

Bang!!

Before he could finish, the little monkey knocked him out with a palm strike, and he fell limply to the ground.

“Master, do you suspect there’s a problem with him?” The monkey asked in confusion. Cai Lei was just a Fortune Realm lesser god, no threat at all.

“It doesn’t matter whether there’s a ‘problem’ with him or not. What matters is that he’s from Qingwu Divine Court,” said Su Yi, his eyes flashing. “Put him away for now. He’ll come in handy later.”

“Got it!” The little monkey straightforwardly agreed.

……

Grassy Creek Village.

Su Yi went looking for Elder Li Changqing, then shared his plans. “This place is no longer safe, and you cannot stay here long term. I plan to arrange for the villagers to seek refuge in the Ice Drinker Sword Realm.

“Yi Daoxuan built that hidden realm for his descendants. It’s a first-rate otherworldly pure land. If you hide inside, you’ll be perfectly safe unless something happens to me.”

Yi Daoxuan!

When he heard that name, Li Changqing’s heart shook. That was the name of the progenitor of the Yi Family, a man who’d once dazzled the entire God Domain!

Li Changqing could no longer hold back. “Forgive my boldness, but I have to ask. Just what is your connection with the Yi Family?”

The young man who called himself Xiao Jian was just too mysterious. He didn’t just have all manner of wondrous abilities; it seemed he knew the Yi Family Progenitor’s affairs like the back of his hand.

Now, he’d even taken control of the Yi Family’s hidden realm! It was simply unbelievable.

“Our connection…?” Su Yi smiled. “You’ll understand later. For now, you just need to know that I won’t hurt you.”

Li Changqing fell briefly silent, then nodded.

That very day, Su Yi used the Ice Drinker Blood Sword to open the Ice Drinker Sword Realm and get the villagers settled safely inside.

Then, he used a secret art to store the hidden realm safely within the sword, which he took with him.

He brought only the little monkey, A’Ling, and Yang Shuang’er with him.

Whoosh!

A treasure ship took to the skies, carrying Su Yi and his companions into the distance.

Grassy Creek Village still stood at the foot of the Demon Crow Mountains, but it had been completely abandoned.

Blood-red sword qi had arisen periodically deep within these mountains for a long, long time, but it would never appear there again.

……

“Master, at this speed, we’ll reach the Celestial Yao Mountains in three days,” said the little monkey.

“Mm,” said Su Yi. “There’s no rush.”

He was currently sprawled out languidly in his wicker chair, his whole body loose and relaxed.

There was no getting around it. His wicker chair was the most comfortable of all. It had accompanied him since his time in the Human Realm, and although it hadn’t made any great meritorious accomplishments, it had always helped him relax completely during times of leisure.

“How do you plan to seek reconciliation with the Celestial Yao Mountains?” Yang Shuang’er couldn’t help but ask.

Reconciliation? Su Yi and the little monkey fell silent. It seems she still has the completely wrong idea about us!

“If you aren’t sure what to do, I can introduce you to my master,” said Yang Shuang’er, thinking out loud. “My master might be an Immortal Queen, but she’s still an influential figure within the sect, and the grand elders think highly of her. If she leads the negotiations, I’m sure you’ll pay a steeply reduced price for peace.”

Su Yi didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.

He immediately changed the subject. “Didn’t Li Changqing tell you about your background yesterday?”

Yang Shuang’er frowned. “There was no basis for anything he said; I don’t believe a word of it, and I certainly don’t believe my master would hurt me!”

Su Yi instantly understood. Yang Shuang’er had left at just three years old, and she’d been gone for over a decade. She’d cultivated alongside Immortal Queen Zi Jue that entire time. It was only natural that she loved and trusted her master more than anyone else.

It was thus natural that she’d struggle to accept the truths Li Changqing had shared with her.

“Is your master good to you?” asked Su Yi.

Yang Shuang’er didn’t miss a beat. “If not for my master, I could never have reached my current heights! Deep within my heart, I see her as another parent!”

“Oh,” said Su Yi. “How has your life in the Celestial Yao Mountains been?”

This time, Yang Shuang’er fell silent, her expression shifting erratically.

Sometimes, silence was answer enough.

“In the Billowing Blue Realm, humans are the lowest of the low. The Celestial Yao Mountains, as the greatest orthodoxy in the Billowing Blue Realm, are a gathering point for its strongest yao experts,” Su Yi said softly.

“All of them have either illustrious backgrounds or shocking talent. As a human immortal, I’m afraid it won’t be so easy for you to establish yourself in an orthodoxy of yao cultivators.”

Yang Shuang’er sank even deeper into silence.

It wasn’t just “not easy.” Over the years, she’d been bullied by her sectmates and elders, and ignored or mocked on countless occasions.

Even outer and inner sect disciples yet to become immortals dared call her “human scum” to her face!

Some of her sectmates had even tried to enslave her.

Other times, instructors expressed their desire to see her expelled from the sect, as having a human around would damage their prestige!!

She’d gritted her teeth and bared it all, using that anger and humiliation to fuel her cultivation and motivate her to become stronger and stronger.

Fortunately, her master had always been there for her, protecting her through thick and thin!

But by now, Yang Shuang’er understood on a visceral level just how immense the anti-human discrimination in the Billowing Blue Realm was. It was like an unshakeable mountain! She never brought this up, not even with her master.

Her master had never mistreated her before, but… she was still a yao cultivator.

Any such complaints would only irritate her!

“Deep within your heart, have you accepted this fate? Do you think… that it’s inevitable that demons and yao stand on top while lowly humans are trampled beneath their feet?” Su Yi asked.

Yang Shuang’er pursed her lips and said nothing.

Time slipped by. Su Yi didn’t push. He just sat there and drank.

After a while, Yang Shuang’er let out a deep sigh. “So what if I don’t accept it? The Billowing Blue Realm is the yao and demons’ world. No matter how hard I work, I’ll receive nothing but rolled eyes and scornful laughter in return. They’ll still see me as… scum! Even their children dare order me about as they please. What… what am I supposed to do?”

At first, she’d managed to keep her emotions under control, but by the end, there was a tremor in her voice, as if she was forcefully holding back fury and humiliation.

Her beautiful but cold face was overcast.

“Sometimes, I curse the unfairness of fate. Why… was I born human…?” Yang Shuang’er said with self-deprecation. “But there’s nothing for it. This is what destiny planned for me. What can I do except accept it?”

Su Yi gazed intently at her for a moment, then laughed. “You’ve held onto your anger and unwillingness. Good.”

Yang Shuang’er was instantly stunned. She couldn’t figure out what Su Yi was getting at.

But the little monkey understood. Master’s biggest worry was that she’d submitted to fate and let herself grow numb!
