Chapter 1267: 1266 You are not the same as her

“What are you laughing at?”

Bai Yiyi frowned, looking puzzled at the man in the driver’s seat. Had she said something wrong?

He’s not allowed to call a woman who’s interested in him in the middle of the night, but it’s okay for him to disturb her at that time?

What kind of nonsense is that.

“You’re different from her.”

The corners of Gu Kai’s mouth curled up into a pleased arc, and Bai Yiyi couldn’t tell if it was an illusion, but Gu Kai’s tone seemed somehow different.

The smile in his eyes seemed to carry a deeper meaning, a flicker of something she couldn’t understand.

Subconsciously, Bai Yiyi turned her gaze away, her heartbeat uncontrollably missing a beat.

Seeing her turn her face to look out of the car window, Gu Kai’s eyes flickered, then he looked ahead again, focusing on driving.

The silence suddenly fell inside the car.

The atmosphere, without conversation, was not awkward, and the air began to breed a subtle tension, gradually permeating every inch of space.

Only when the Maybach reached Wen’s Pharmaceutical Factory and stopped at the gate did Bai Yiyi unbuckle her seatbelt. She turned and reminded Gu Kai, “Remember to call Wei Jingshan. I said yesterday that no matter what the result is, we would inform her.”

Gu Kai’s brows furrowed, “You are so keen to help her?”

Bai Yiyi blinked in confusion, “She said she’s been an orphan since childhood and was raised by a kindly grandma.”

At this point, Bai Yiyi didn’t continue speaking and opened the car door to get out.

Gu Kai narrowed his eyes, his tall figure leaning back in the driver’s seat, turning his head to watch through the car window as Bai Yiyi walked into the factory gates, her figure growing distant, until she disappeared in front of the office building. Only then did he start the engine and drive off in a flurry.

A City

The weather was not pleasing, with rain pouring down early in the morning.

An Lin was awakened by a knock on the door, having suffered from insomnia, she had only fallen asleep at three in the morning.

Opening her eyes, they felt somewhat dry.

She got out of bed, walked over, and when she opened the door and saw it was Qin Mu, a flash of surprise passed through her eyes, followed by a frown, “I thought it was my mom, why is it you?”

Qin Mu’s gaze swept over her pajamas, the corners of his mouth lifting into a gentle arc, and he said softly, “Mom told me to come up and call you.”

“Auntie is here too?”

An Lin turned and walked back inside, her words casual as she spoke.

Qin Mu followed her into the room and sat down on the sofa, speaking calmly, “It’s not my mom, it’s your mom. After we get the certificate today, we’ll be husband and wife, and your parents will be my parents as well.”

At those words, An Lin abruptly turned to look at Qin Mu.

Qin Mu raised an eyebrow, “What, did I say something wrong?”

“Stop smiling at me like that; it makes me dizzy.” An Lin tossed out an off-topic comment and hurried into the walk-in closet.

Qin Mu pondered her words for a moment, then touched his own smile-curving mouth again. Then, quite narcissistically, he stood up and went to look at himself in the mirror—was he really that handsome?

Perhaps it was the resolve to take responsibility for An Lin and the commitment to spend a lifetime with her that made Qin Mu adapt to their relationship so quickly. It’s only been two days, and he was already fully comfortable with the new dynamic between him and An Lin.

Although he didn’t have feelings for her yet, he believed he a could genuinely come to like her.

After An Lin changed clothes and freshened up in the bathroom, Qin Mu was still sitting on the sofa with one leg crossed, waiting for her.

“Alright, let’s go.”

An Lin finished washing up and gestured to Qin Mu on the sofa.

Qin Mu stood up, squinting as he sized her up, “Aren’t you putting on makeup?”

“Why should I wear makeup? Do I look that bad?” An Lin frowned. Did he think it was comfortable to smear things on her face all day?

Qin Mu shook his head, “You don’t look bad. It’s raining outside, take a coat.”

An Lin glanced at the patio doors then turned and went into the walk-in closet, coming out with a shawl.

Descending the stairs together, An Lin’s parents were sitting on the living room sofa. Seeing them come down, they immediately stood up and smiled asking, “Ah Mu, are you two heading out? Do you want us to accompany you?”

“Mom, why would you come with us? You’re not the ones getting a license.”

Without waiting for Qin Mu to say anything, An Lin immediately refused.

Her gaze lingered for a second on Mom An, then she scrutinized Dad An, “Dad, Mom, you two are dressed so nicely, why don’t you go out shopping, have some tea, watch a movie or something.”

“Silly girl, what are you talking about?”

Mom An straightened her face, glaring fiercely at An Lin, but when she looked at Qin Mu, her expression softened immediately: “Ah Mu, then we won’t follow. After you and An Lin collect your license, there’s no rush to come back. Just come home for dinner in the evening.”

“Okay, Mom.”

A smile crossed Qin Mu’s face, his attitude exceedingly good.

Hearing Qin Mu call her mom “Mom,” An Lin still wasn’t quite used to it and inadvertently raised her head to look at him.

Qin Mu felt her gaze, turned his head to look at her, hesitated slightly, and then captured her hand that hung by her side. An Lin stiffened, a trace of surprise flickering through her eyes.

“Dad, Mom, we’re off then.”

Without changing his expression, Qin Mu politely greeted Dad An and Mom An. Under their beaming gazes, he led An Lin by the hand and left An’s Home.

Once in the car, An Lin spoke indifferently, “Thank you for the act in front of my parents just now. But you don’t have to do that in the future. You can interact with me like we did before.”

Qin Mu was starting the car and seemed not to have heard her. He didn’t even furrow his brow.

It wasn’t until they hit the road that Qin Mu turned to her, looking at An Lin, “What I did just now wasn’t an act.”

An Lin, having said that, turned her head back to look out the car window.

At this moment, she was staring at the rapidly retreating buildings outside when she unexpectedly heard Qin Mu’s words. Startled, she spoke with a touch of humor, “Ah Mu, it’s not like I just met you today. I’ve always known you have no feelings for me. You really don’t have to try so hard.”

“I’m not trying hard either, An Lin, you’ve always been bad at Chinese, don’t misuse adjectives. We’ll talk more after we get the license.”

Qin Mu was afraid that if the discussion continued, An Lin would get angry and refuse to go through with the registration.

He knew An Lin’s temperament better than she knew herself.

“Let’s not talk about it then. My Chinese was taught by a PE teacher,” An Lin retorted, rolling her eyes before turning back to continue looking at the quickly receding buildings outside the window.

Qin Mu just smiled and wasn’t offended.

Due to the rain, they drove slowly.

Seeing that An Lin was truly remaining silent, just staring out the window in a daze, after two minutes, Qin Mu spoke again, “It might take a while to get to the Civil Affairs Bureau. If you’re sleepy, take a rest with your eyes closed. I’ll wake you when we get there.”

“No need.”

An Lin glanced at him and gently shook her head.

He was driving, and it didn’t seem right for her to sleep.

Even though he didn’t like her, she liked him, and she still wanted to be there with him.
