Chapter 1157: Kill Me Now!
Cassarae still didn’t understand what was going on, but the moment she raised her sword to do as Sylas asked, trusting him implicitly, she felt the change in her gut.
Suddenly, she wasn’t standing on Planet Florineth, nor was she beside Sylas. She had forgotten everything but herself and her blade, the arc of its tip moving all on its own as though she was being guided by a law beyond herself.
And then, her mind was consumed by the thought that triggered all of this… the desire to control her fate with nothing more than her sword alone, to sever the skies that stood before her if need be.
Who was to decide her path but herself? Any woman that tried to steal her man deserved to have her head lopped off her neck.
Everything else felt so profound, but this final line, this final thought, was the true driving force that was pulled out from the depths of Cassarae’s gut.
But that was the Executioner’s power. It was inherently selfish, inherently greedy, inherently marinated and steeped in the densest sort of carnal pursuit of evolution.
It was what the All-Seeing Eye wanted most: progression at no matter the cost, no matter the sacrifice, no matter the morality.
That was what it wanted to see the most.
And yet, it was also what made its hatred of the Sin Seeds so peculiar. Weren’t the Sin Seeds exactly that…? So why was it that it seemed to want to eradicate Sylas because of their existence?
Unfortunately, Sylas was only barely on the fringe of what was going on. Caught between the two streams, he was like a leaf being buffeted by the winds, holding his Enlightened Will to a firm standard that stood far beyond what his minor frame, in comparison to all the things around him, could possibly match up to.
However, he knew enough to understand what was happening.
It was no wonder the system was so furious. Before it arrived here, Cassarae had been moments away from setting the Legendary Leg of her Quest as its destruction.
If the All-Seeing Eye hadn’t appeared in time, taking on the task in its stead, Sylas would have lost Cassarae forever.
There was simply no amount of intelligence, no amount of quick progression, no amount of Luck that would have allowed for Sylas to grow strong enough to help Cassarae eradicate the Crimson Eye before what was ultimately their less than two years remaining was up.
Once that time was finished, he would just have to stand there and watch the woman he loved die at the hands of her own Destiny Quest.
Maybe.
A thought flickered in Sylas’ eyes. Was it possible for him to use Taboo Bond to transfer a Quest like that? If not, the Gluttony Seed certainly had this capability. What if he used both of them together in some sort of esoteric way? Could he manage a method?
Sylas clenched his fists.
This was the power of knowledge. Even if ripping the Destiny Quest out of Cassarae would cost her everything, it would still be better than dying, right?
An unexpected sort of confidence and Pride flowed through Sylas’ veins.
If he could even think of a potential solution for this, what problem couldn’t he solve?
Watching his woman swing her sword toward the heavens above, pouring out all the power she had to sever the All-Seeing Eye in two, he felt that Pride bloom further.
He had allowed for all of this. He turned Earth’s situation around himself. He played the galaxy in the palm of his hands. And he… allowed for his wife, Cassarae Grimblade, to forge a Legendary Class.
BOOM!
The All-Seeing Eye was split in two, sparks of blue fluttering and forming bolts that shot down from the skies so fast that none of them could react.
Cassarae was swallowed up by these bolts, while Sylas himself was sent flying off into the distance.
He could feel the Demerits hitting him in waves as the Crimson Eye began to calculate if he even had enough to save Cassarae’s life, but he didn’t care in the slightest. In fact, he was the closest to grinning that Sylas Grimblade had ever been in his lifetime.
Who cared how low his starting position was? Who cared how many odds were stacked against him? Who cared how many enemies he had left to plow through or how many allies would one day turn against him?
Wouldn’t he be able to deal with them all the same?
“Shit. Of course you would form the first Natural Sin Seed since that Era. For the love of—Christ, right? Is that what you would use in your world? You’re going to be the death of me. This is not good! Getting a second Seed was already a problem! And you’re already too Prideful, you CANNOT deal with the backlash of a Pride Seed right now. It will consume you, dammit!

“But you just went ahead and did it on your own, even after I went through so much fucking trouble to protect you from this exact thing. FUCK! Now Gluttony and Lust are going to practically be impotent. But if you don’t force them to grow, Pride will swallow you whole.
“Agh, how did I get saddled with the one guy always throwing himself toward death? Go back to when you were a cute kid. You were still just as insufferable, but at least you had some charm in those chubby little cheeks.
“Kill me now!”
The echo of the familiar voice formed in Sylas the moment something took root in him. The stream of words came so fast that he was having a hard time understanding it, even with his processing speed, but he seemed to get the gist of it.
It seemed that the real reason the voice hadn’t wanted him to pick Pride before was because she knew that Sylas aligned with it way too much.
And now… he had somehow formed the Seed all on his own…
And it seemed that was a very, very bad thing.
