Chapter 1290: Scarval [Bonus]
[Bonus Chapter thanks to Zentro <3]
Gralith looked toward the flickering images projected from the Disputed Rite.
The Disputed Rite was really just an elaborate obstacle course. The role of the in-name disciple was to make it from the bell tower that Sylas was currently waiting in, to the other side of the “map”.
This location was on the main Sanctum planet, a continent cornered off for exactly this purpose—that being to challenge worthy disciples in all sorts of ways. Depending on the Runes that were active, there were many other challenges that could be triggered.
Technically speaking, if Sylas was fast enough, and stealthy enough, he could make it from one side of the map to the other without facing off against a single battle.
The issue, of course, was that there were very specified “Lanes”. These Lanes were the only paths that could be followed without triggering death traps or mobilizing slumbering beasts.
One might think that going through these danger zones on purpose would be the smart decision, but they were purposely made a Grade beyond the participating members. That was to say that if you could make it through these danger zones, you would likely be completing a task far more difficult than any of the same-tier opponents you could face.
Though there was some elasticity to the difficulty, the further you traveled, the more danger you would be in until you would be inevitably forced back onto the road.
For a Disputed Rite like this one, the danger zones would have beasts, traps, and formations that even a Level 100 genius of the Sanctum might not be able to completely protect themselves from.
Then, even if by some miracle you managed to do all of that, there was only one way out: a temple at the end with a set of tall stairs that descended upon you with a great amount of pressure, a location where you could still be attacked and where there was nowhere to hide.
Because of this, the location of the Disputed Rite was like one big oval-shaped field. The bell tower was on one side and the temple was on the other. In the middle, there were three main lanes and about half a dozen more smaller lanes.
While Sylas was in the bell tower, his opponents were waiting on the side of the temple for the ancient bell to ring. Upon which… they would all converge onto him.
That made it all the easier to see just the sheer number of enemies that Sylas was facing. And it also made it obvious at an instant that the Rhino Lineage actually… wasn’t the only one there.
Reclined on a tree at the edge of the starting area for the challengers, there was a young man with fierce red hair that shone so bright it almost looked like his head, jaw, and the sides of his face were coated in a flickering flame.
His eyes were closed, one leg crossed over another, while a long strand of wheat hung from his lips, randomly combusting into flames from time to time before suddenly reversing track and healing as though nothing at all had happened.
From time to time, he’d yawn, toss and turn, and then return to his starting position. But somehow, he never fell from the thin branch though it swayed so fiercely sometimes it looked as though it might snap.
The Rhino Lineage disciples down below didn’t seem to have picked out this young man at all. They continued to make their plans as though he was completely invisible.
But the Lineage Heads here spotted him instantly.
Gralith wasn’t someone who reacted to much if anything at all. Yet, his eyes still narrowed just the slightest bit.
“An interesting change, don’t you think. I almost forgot that our Rhino Lineage isn’t the only one your brat offended, huh Gralith? The Tiger Lineage seems to have sent one of their own.”
Scarval. Number one of the Tiger Lineage’s F-tiers. Number one of the Sanctum’s F-tiers.
The child was a complete anomaly. He had been at F-tier for decades and didn’t seem to have any intention of ascending to E-tier despite all the potential he was wasting.
To a point, spending as much time building your Foundation Grade was the best possible choice. But at some point, you would begin to chip away at your potential and your momentum would dull.
For some that took it too far, ascending to the next tier actually became impossible.
Scarval was one such existence, but he had managed to climb up and over the heads of the Lion, Whale, Serpent, and Ape Lineages to be one of the few to rank number one on any tier’s leaderboard without being of one of those four Lineages.
The power he held in his hands was immense for an F-tier, and even if he no longer had the potential to reach E-tier, he had already solidified himself as one of the most powerful F-tiers to ever exist in the Sector.
And now… he was here?
Why? Was it because Sylas had made Herrs kneel?
The big cat Lineages tended to have a decent relationship amongst each other as the differences between them was limited. This was to say that though Aurex was a friend of Herrs’, Herrs wasn’t actually a member of the Lion Lineage. He was instead a member of the Tiger Lineage, the second most powerful of the big cats.
Was it really a coincidence, then, that Scarval had appeared here?
Gralith turned toward the 713th Tiger Warlord, a man with sideburns no less wild than Scarval’s. In fact, the hair they had was the same fierce red that looked more like flickering flames.
Anyone here actually knew that Scarval was this man’s grandson.
Warlord Varkhul didn’t even look over.
“Don’t look at me, Gralith. I did not send him. If I could control my grandson, he would already be in the D-tier, pissing all over your second disciple, Khan.”
The crude, straightforward words were about as much as you could expect from Varkhul. Now, even Gralith was questioning how this would end.
The Sanctum didn’t seem to have any idea what it was doing. Were they really going to fumble away the only Rune Spark Master in the Sector like this?
