GREED: ALL FOR WHAT?

Chapter 2173 - 2173: Foundations Of Nobles.

Sir Bushwick looked around and saw the small pool of energy water. This small pool is the spirit spring of the village.

The supply of energy water from this spirit spring is too small. The pool is barely able to provide 100 liters per month. It is not an amount that will make much of a difference to him if he had it or not.

But it doesn’t matter that the supply of energy water from the pool is small. What matters now is that he can do whatever he wants to do with the spirit spring of this village and every village around the Ivory Town.

Another great thing about his victory is that he now controls the whole supply of energy water in Ivory Town, and he can attack other towns and annex them too.

So even though he has to pay a certain percentage as tax to his superior in the liege system, he will still have more energy water than he did before.

In fact, the liege system is not a burden at all. It is a blessing to the nobles even if he will have less energy water than he did before because the liege system is one of the foundations of nobles. It is one of the reasons why many noble families will join the war against the lamp bearers.

The main reason is that the lamp bearers have been cutting too deep into the lifeblood and power of nobles for too long. They truly want their freedom and power back.

A rank 4 noble is a Land Sovereign. That is their divine ability. It grants nobles an advantage when they fight on their territory by boosting their spiritual energy recovery, stamina recovery, and life force recovery.

This Land Sovereign divine ability also reduces the spiritual energy cost of all of their divine abilities. It doesn’t give raw power, but it gives a complete edge in every other aspect.

Unfortunately, a noble needs a territory to call their own before they can become rank 4 nobles. So every noble family that doesn’t have a territory can’t have a rank 4 noble.

The territory of nobles is their second foundation. Their first foundation is their family. The lamp bearers didn’t interfere with the first foundation more than the reduction in the resources of nobles, which reduced how large their families could become.

The lamp bearers took 50% of the energy supply of the nobles and prevented the nobles from taking energy water from villages. This affected the nobles indirectly by reducing the size of their families and the influence of their first foundation.

But by outright banning wars for conquest, the lamp bearers cut off the path to rank 4 for most nobles. Now, no rank 3 noble dares to attack a village to take it over and turn it into their territory so that they can become rank 4 nobles.

This is why even the weak nobles who won’t benefit from the Ivory family gaining complete control of the Ivory Town will still support the rise of the nobles. After all, the absence of the lamp bearers mean that they too can rise.

Then there is the rank 5 noble, which requires rank 4 nobles to gain a noble title before they can advance. With their divine ability called Noble Title, the power of a noble will be elevated beyond their rank based on the level of their title, and they too can bestow power to others through their title.

A rank 5 noble can even give a mortal a title that will make them gain a small portion of the power of a rank 4 noble. So a noble title is the third foundation of the power of nobles.

The power of this noble title comes from an established hierarchy. When someone gains a title in this hierarchy, their power gets elevated to the corresponding title.

The established hierarchy that the nobles relied on was the liege system. But the liege system was crippled when the lamp bearers banned wars of conquest.

All in all, the nobles have too many reasons to fight the lamp bearers. The lamp bearers not only enforce their own justice, but they also undermine the power of the nobles literally and practically. So the two sides can never reconcile.

Now that the lamp bearers are about to be evicted from the entire kingdom, it means that Bushwick finally has a chance of advancing to rank 5. This is something that he is willing to give up a lot of energy and water for.

But now that he can give out energy water to his superior in the liege system and still be richer than he was before, how can he not be happy?

So he smiled and said to everyone, “Let’s go to their base next and take everything that they have for ourselves.”

The men raised their voices and cheered. Then they left the village with pride and excitement.

There was spring in their steps as they walked. It was caused by the feeling of freedom from the lamp bearers.

Meanwhile, in Ivory Town.

Legion learned that the rank 3 traveler was still alive through Black Knife. This meant that there was a lamp bearer alive who knew where he was right now, so he had to do what he wanted to do quickly and find a better way to discard his identity as a lamp bearer without being suspicious.

With a comrade still alive, he has to restrain himself, as that comrade might notice what he is doing and snitch on him. But that didn’t prevent him from stealing the things that he wanted.

The first thing he did was to go and get the gateway that he bought from the white tower. This gateway is a large bucket with a function similar to the silver mirror used to transport weapons away.

When inactive, the gateway looks like an ordinary bucket. It looks unassuming, so no one would suspect that it possesses a channel that leads to a location where precious things are kept.
