Yu Fei on the other hand was still trapped inside the deep pit. He looked at his nails which had cracked in his attempt to climb up and dig a hole. He thought that as long as he continued to dig, he might be able to get out of this pit.
But the plan that he had in his mind was only good on the surface. When he tried to put it in use, Yu Fei realised that he couldn’t get out of this despairing pit even if he wanted to.
Yu Fei panted heavily as he slid down on the ground. He looked at the bottom of the boulder which was firmly pressing down on the top of the hole and pursed his lips.
He even slowed down his breathing as he knew that the air inside the hole was decreasing rapidly. If this went on then he would end up dying due to suffocation!
It was better to sit and wait, in hopes that Xiao Cai would notice that something was amiss and would come to see him.
Suppressing the fear in his heart, he once again started to call for help, “Is someone there? Anyone!?”
“Cough! Cough! Cough!”
Yu Fei coughed as the air inside the pit was getting more and more less. He could breathe as slowly as possible while screaming, “Someone please–cough! Help me!”
“Did you hear something?” The villagers who were looking for Yu Fei, turned to look at one another.
“Heard what?” A woman said to the person who spoke just now.
“Someone—I heard someone call.” The woman who heard Yu Fei’s cry for help turned to look at the rest of the crowd and said to them, “Did you not hear anything?”
“You … He Chongming, don’t do such a thing,” One of the women rubbed her arms as she remarked, “At least look at what we are doing and where we are going. Do you think that we are not scared enough already?”
“That’s right! It’s bad enough that we have to come up on this mountain at such an hour, but now you are saying such words, Do you want us to get a heart attack?” A woman snapped.
The one who spoke immediately pursed her lips upon hearing the scolding of the rest of the villagers.
But before either of them walked further inside the forest, they heard someone call for help once again.
“H–Help! Cough I am here!”
The voice was extremely hoarse and rough, but even then the villagers recognised the voice.
It was Yu Fei’s!
“Listen! I told you! Someone is calling for help!”
“Is there anyone? Please help me!”
As soon as the villagers heard the voice again, their eyes widened. Damn it! They were done for, it seemed like that the person calling for help was indeed Yu Fei.
What the hell happened to him?
The villagers charged in the direction from where the voice came and soon came to a stop at the edge of the cliff.
“Did the voice come from here?” One of the villagers asked as she looked around the cliff.
“It did,” replied another woman.
But if the voice came from here, why couldn’t they see Yu Fei? Where was he?
As soon as the woman finished speaking, Yu Fei called out again, “Pl–Please anyone… cough! Cough!”
“It’s coming from down there!” someone in the crowd exclaimed.
Though the women and men were scared of peering down the cliff on such a dark night, one of them still summoned his courage and walked forward. With the flame torch in front of him, he looked down the cliff.
Sure enough, he found a large boulder. But it was tilting really unnaturally, which showed that there was space underneath it. Doesn’t it mean that there was something underneath it? Or more like someone?
The man was sure that the person inside the pit was Yu Fei, and as there was no space around the boulder, it was clear as the day that Yu Fei was pushed in the boulder first before the boulder was pushed on top like a lid of a coffin.
When the man realised what had happened, his expression changed again and again. It was over; they were certainly going to make an enemy out of Yu Dong this time around.
“What—what is it?” Seeing the expression on the face of the man, the people behind her knew that something was very wrong.
“Come and look at it yourself.” The man did not want to say anything! Oh, how he wished this was just a bad dream and he would wake up from it. But as he touched his arm and pinched himself, he realised that there was no such thing!
The others became even more worried when they heard the words of the man.
They looked at one another before walking forward, and when they looked down, they gasped in shock and horror at the sight in front of them.
A giant boulder was pushed down on the opening of a pit. Was there anything that they could not understand by watching the sight in front of them?
Someone actually wanted Yu Fei’s life, and as they were aware of the friction between Zhou Ziming and Yu Fei, they had a feeling that this matter was not as simple as it looked.
“What now?” one of the women asked stupidly.
“What else?” The man who first found Yu Fei gritted his teeth and said to the woman, “Go and call the villagers; we cannot let someone die, can we?”
They were not as ruthless as Zhou Ziming who could kill someone and even pretend that he was innocent. If they left Yu Fei to die here, they would never be able to get rid of the guilt!
So it was better to save a life rather than suffer because of a guilty conscience all their life.
When the women heard the man say that they needed to save Yu Fei’s life, they all pursed their lips but still turned on their feet and ran towards the path. The boulder was too big for them to move on their own!
