I am a Primitive Man

Chapter 534: Dirty little face, innocent smile

“Almost there.”

Mao glanced around carefully, identifying their surroundings, and then spoke.

Shang nodded while holding his weapon.

After a long time on the road, they looked noticeably thinner and darker but seemed more spirited.

Once again, it was proven that Mao had a remarkable talent for finding his way. Despite the absence of clear paths, he managed to navigate quite well.

After informing Shang, they walked a short distance before a tribe appeared before them.

Some trees grew at the mouth of the cave, providing cover to reduce the chances of it being discovered.

Scattered around the cave were a few people, most of whom didn’t look very strong.

Some were searching for wild vegetables, while others stood guard.

As Shang and Mao approached their large group, they naturally caught the attention of these people.

At the same time that Shang and the others noticed the people and their surroundings, the latter also spotted them.

“%%6!”

Someone shouted, and the individuals around the cave became alert. They held crude weapons and clung to the wild vegetables they had gathered, staring at the uninvited guests.

Shang and the other eleven elders of the Green Sparrow tribe were familiar with such scenes and no longer felt at a loss.

They imitated Mao, refraining from getting too close to the people and the cave. Instead, they raised their pottery high, with some even clapping on the pots to create loud sounds.

Holding a weapon, Huang Guo felt relieved when she saw the others standing still. When she noticed the pottery they were holding, her worries dissipated entirely, replaced by joy.

It was that tribe!

The one with many pots and salt—they had finally returned!

It had been quite some time since their tribe had run out of salt, so they were truly glad to see them.

But why did they look so different now? There was a significant gap compared to before.

If she hadn’t seen the pottery and recognized them carefully, Huang Guo wouldn’t have been able to identify the dark-skinned leader.

Their tribe had traded with this one more than once or twice, and she knew it was a very kind and conscientious tribe, so Huang Guo and the others lowered their weapons and eagerly approached.

They invited these people with good things to their cave nearby.

Shang, Mao, and the others didn’t hesitate to go over.

However, they didn’t rush into the cave; they stopped at the entrance of the tribe’s cave.

It was still daytime, and there was a long time before dark. The tribe’s leader had taken the strong adults out to hunt, so trading couldn’t happen immediately.

Thus, Shang, Mao, and the others unloaded their goods from the deer, fed the deer some grass and water, and cooked their food.

Huang Guo and the others watched this with curiosity and a bit of fear stemming from the several adult wolves tied up!

Surprisingly, these wolves didn’t bite, looking rather obedient, which shocked them.

Moreover, they were being fed such delicious food; what a waste!

Huang Guo couldn’t help but lick her lips, swallowing hard.

In the past, this tribe hadn’t been like this. They had no deer, no wolves, and certainly no strange weapons. Their clothing and hair had also been different…

How could there be such a significant change in such a short time?

Yet, Huang Guo had to admit that this tribe’s transformation was quite pleasant to the eye and even desirable.

The food was ready—a porridge made by boiling millet and dried meat together, with wild vegetables and salt added at the end.

The traders, having worked hard all the way, were relaxed now. Each held a large pottery bowl and ate with great satisfaction.

This was one of their few moments of comfort.

The aroma of food was always so enticing. Even adults like Huang Guo couldn’t help but drool, and the children in the tribe were even worse.

They leaned against the cave entrance one by one, stretching their heads out.

With eager eyes, they watched Shang and the others savor their food while they stuck their fingers in their mouths to suck on them, saliva dripping down.

It was as if they were not sucking on their fingers but rather on the mouthwatering food that was making them drool.

Being stared at by such a group made it impossible for Shang to eat correctly; he couldn’t stand it after only a few bites.

Immediately, he set down his bowl, found two empty bowls, and filled them to the brim with meat porridge. With a smile, he walked towards the tribe’s cave and pointed at the eager children.

Huang Guo was momentarily stunned; she hadn’t expected the people from this tribe to generously share their precious food with the children of her tribe.

While she was in a daze, the children were not. They rushed out of the cave, and the temptation of food and Shang’s friendly smile gave them a lot of courage.

Cautiously, they took the two large bowls filled with food from Shang’s hands and happily ran towards the cave entrance, lifting their bowls with faces full of joy and anticipation.

Huang Guo smiled as she pinched a little from inside one of the bowls and put it in her mouth, the delicious taste of the food intoxicating her.

However, she didn’t eat more, as this food was meant for the children from that tribe.

Like Huang Guo, the other adults took a little to taste without eating much.

After all the adults had tasted the food, the children who had been watching eagerly, saliva dripping onto the ground, cheered and placed their bowls on the ground, gathering together to eat happily.

Their actions were quite exaggerated as if they wanted to grab all the food in one go. Yet when they pulled their hands back, only a small amount of food was left, with some even having dipped their fingers in the broth.

Even so, they all ate with great seriousness and satisfaction.

One small child, too young to distinguish between genders, greedily sucked on their fingers after scooping out food while turning to smile at Shang and the others from the Green Sparrow tribe.

Their dirty little face had two yellow rice grains stuck to one side.

Shang returned the smile and then dug into her meal, feeling it tasted even better.

Mao felt a bit dissatisfied when Shang served food to the children. After all, their purpose in coming out was to exchange things, and Shang’s actions were unsuitable for trading.

However, this dissatisfaction vanished as soon as he saw the child turn around and smile at them.

He also smiled back at the child and then continued to eat…
