Chapter 1309: Finale (1)

Since his father was back, Little Bear naturally had to bring his two younger brothers to pick him up. Little Treasure was sent by Qi Xiuyuan, while Little An was left behind by his own father.

Fan Zijin had wanted to come by himself, but halfway there, he realized that his companions were all children. Most importantly, many people had run to the city gate at that time. After asking around, he realized that they were all commoners watching the commotion.

Fan Zijin wanted to meet Qi Haoran, but he was not interested in being a monkey for others to watch. Hence, he decisively abandoned his son and turned around to enter the palace.

Little Treasure had always been affable towards the people. In addition, it wasn’t as if lose a piece of flesh if he was seen by others, so he didn’t ask his men to clear the area. Of course, the most important thing was that they were picking King Rong and his group up at the city gate. As there were many people entering the city from here, it was really difficult to clear the area.

This resulted in the current situation. Many people were watching.

The old residents in the capital missed King Rong very much. In the past, when King Rong was in the capital, everyone had a lot of topics to talk about. Ever since he left the capital, there had been one less topic to talk about and it wasn’t as lively as before.

Meanwhile, the officials in the capital welcomed King Rong with mixed feelings.

The reform of the official system had already been implemented in the entire Great Qi. Now, it was simply checking for loopholes and filling in the gaps. Looking back, the hostility and confrontation back then no longer seemed so important.

However, it was impossible for there to be no traces of what had happened. Those officials couldn’t help but wonder if King Rong would be petty enough to bear grudges about what they had done.

After all, he had left the capital to avoid being targeted by them. If the Emperor had not suddenly been poisoned and fainted, and the government had not been in chaos, they would probably have continued to compete with him.

Hence, everyone had mixed feelings. They did not know if they should treat him coldly or greet him with a smile.

Qi Haoran didn’t care what they were thinking though. Ever since he sent Tiger Head and Little Lion back to the capital, Little Bear no longer spent the New Year with them anymore. Instead, he stayed in the capital with his younger brothers. Hence, he hadn’t seen his three sons for two years.

Seeing his three tall and strong sons, even though Qi Haoran had been through a lot, his eyes could not help but turn red.

On the other hand, Tiger Head and Little Lion weren’t that sad. They shouted and rushed towards their younger siblings on their horses. With eyes reddened like his father’s, Little Bear went forward and bowed respectfully. “Father, you’re back!”

Qi Haoran was about to stroke his head when he was stunned. Since when did this kid learn how to be humble?

At the thought that Little Fu had been sent to him because he had been led astray in the capital, he immediately looked at his son in surprise.

It was because Little Fu was young and his personality was not yet fixed that he had been led astray. Could it be that Little Bear had also picked up bad habits?

Little Bear lowered his head and gave his father a look. Seeing this, Qi Haoran heaved a sigh of relief and nodded. “Mm.”

Then, he lowered his voice and asked, “What are you doing here, brat?”

Little Bear said in a low voice, “Daddy, there are many officials lying in ambush among the commoners. Since my younger brothers are still students, they can shout and make a fuss, but the two of us have to restrain ourselves. Otherwise, they’ll write nonsense again.”

He continued, “Of course we’re not afraid of them impeaching us, but it’s annoying to have to hear about it.”

Although Qi Haoran didn’t think that there was a need to pretend, since his son had said so, he wouldn’t undermine his son. Hence, he turned around and glared at the group of shouting children in a dignified manner. “Alright, what are you shouting about? How unruly. Hurry up and enter the city. Don’t you know that your Royal Uncle is waiting for you in the palace?”

Stunned, Tiger Head and Little Lion whispered to each other, “What’s wrong with Daddy? Why is he acting like a different person?”

Little An glanced at Little Bear, tugged at the twins, and said in a low voice, “Alright, you’ve all grown up. Do as Fourth Uncle says.”

Seeing that their older brothers had straightened their attitudes, the boy-girl twins and Little Fu naturally raised their heads and puffed out their chests, too.

A smile flashed across Little Treasure’s eyes as he went forward and greeted Qi Haoran respectfully. After a simple greeting, they headed to the palace together.

Not everyone followed them into the palace. Only Eunuch Wan, the deputy commander of the Forbidden Troops, and a few guards followed Qi Haoran and the others into the palace. The others all returned to the King’s Residence with their luggage.

Qi Xiuyuan had long been waiting with Li Jinghua and the children.

Seeing that he was so anxious that he was pacing around, Li Jinghua smiled and poured him a cup of tea. She comforted him and said, “It’s about time Fourth Brother enters the capital. Don’t be anxious…”

Before she could finish speaking, Eunuch Wei’s voice sounded from outside. “Your Majesties, King Rong and Queen Consort Rong have entered the palace.”

Qi Xiuyuan heaved a sigh of relief and stood up. “Hurry up and announce their arrival!” He personally walked to the front to welcome them. Fan Zijin hurriedly threw down his teacup and followed.
