Chapter 1030: 1030 Aaron The Cat
The boy in question wasn’t hard to find. As was natural for a threatened animal, he had gone somewhere familiar to hide, and Wolfe found him in the closet in his room, hiding from them.
“Student Aaron. We have questions for you.” Wolfe informed him, standing in the middle of his dorm, with a soundproofing spell cast over the small room.
The boy didn’t respond, and Wolfe sighed. “If you make me pull you hissing and snarling out of a closet, I will not be pleased.”
The closet door creaked open. “How did you know where I was?”
“I am a Magi Saint. I can sense the location of every single life in this city by the flow of mana. You have been training as a mage, and that makes it even easier to find you.” Wolfe replied.
It helped that it was his own dorm as well, as that was the first place that Wolfe had looked for him.
“Whatever she told you, it’s not like that.” He insisted.
“Then what is it like because things aren’t looking good for you right now.”
The boy closed his mouth, knowing that anything that he could say would either be a lie or incriminate himself. If he said nothing, and she was too afraid to speak up, then there was a chance he got off with a light punishment for bullying his classmate.
King Petros didn’t have as much patience as Wolfe did, and Aaron was one of his scholarship students, sent to the Academy by his Nobles to represent them in Forest Grove.
“Speak the whole truth.” He demanded, using [Compulsion] the Unholy spell effect to force the words out of the beastkin.
“She’s just a mouse. A mouse! They’re prey. Nobody understands, prey exist to play with, to torture, to kill. How dare they tell me that I can’t do what I want with prey. She is mine, she has always been mine. If I can’t have her, then nobody can.
She prances around the Academy, smiling at those damned humans, flirting with the boys like she doesn’t know, but I know. It doesn’t matter what the prey thinks, only the predator.”
The boy looked horrified at the words that came out of his mouth, and clamped his hands over them to stop the flow.
“How long?” King Petros demanded.
“Since we were children.” Aaron mumbled through the blockage, pure hatred replacing the despair in his voice.
“You can’t stop me, it’s my right. Mice are beneath us, beneath everyone. She’s mine!” He shouted.
King Petros looked at Wolfe. “Well, I can confirm that he is one hundred percent a psychopath. At this point, I don’t think that we need the answer from the Dorm Mother, he’s not suitable.”
“You would steal my scholarship for a mouse? A worthless scheming mouse?” Aaron shouted.
“How many others?” King Petros asked.
The struggle on Aaron’s face was visible as he tried to force himself not to speak, even going as far as to clamp his hands on his own throat to prevent it. But after a moment, he lost the battle against the spell, and the words came out.
“All of them. I killed all seven of the other mice who worked for our Lord.”
Wolfe didn’t even have to say anything as Petros’ Unholy Fire engulfed the madman, turning him to ash, before Wolfe blew the ash and excess heat out the window with air magic.
“I think I need to speak with some of our Nobles. I don’t recall anyone reporting the loss of seven servants. The deaths of all servants are supposed to be reported to ensure there is nothing sketchy going on. Years back, there was a cult that used to do human sacrifices to build their power, and the previous King put the measure in place to prevent their resurgence.” Petros explained.
“Alright, that is taken care of. We should go inform Mini and the Dorm Mother, as his effects will need to be removed, and there will be an extra dorm available.” Wolfe informed the King.
“Yes, let’s. I do hate having to use compulsion, even if it does save a large amount of time getting to the truth.” Petros agreed with a sigh.
They had such a good start to the day, and only one case of physical bullying was found, which was far better than they had hoped for. But it had turned into such a mess.
The two put on their best politely interested expressions before they left the room, and made their way through the influx of students who were showing their new roommates to the dorms with their luggage.
Each student was allowed two suitcases of a set size, as that was about all the space that the closet and dresser had. That made life easy on the transfers, and it allowed both the Dorm Mother and the teachers to see who was getting along well with their new roommate.
The simplest of things gave it away. For example, the ones who were pulling one of their dorm mate’s suitcases were at least getting along a little bit.
They came across a young girl, no more than about fourteen, standing near the door, looking panicked and looking around for someone.
“Can we help, student?” Wolfe asked.
“My roommate isn’t here. They said that someone would be here to help, and I don’t know where dorm 22 in the women’s building is.” She explained, with a hint of despair.
“And who is your roommate?” Wolfe asked. It would be easy enough to find them once he knew who to look for.
“A girl named Milan. There was no family name.” She replied.
“Ah, that makes perfect sense. Your roommate is in a short meeting with the Dorm Mother. I will go fetch her, just wait here.” Wolfe replied, then went to the door, where he could sense the two sitting on the couch.
He knocked at the door and waited for them to compose themselves, then entered with King Petros.
“Mini? How are you holding up? I hope we didn’t interrupt?” Wolfe asked.
“No, we got through it all. What happens now?” She replied.
“Your new roommate is waiting for you outside with her luggage. You can go get settled in. Aaron won’t be returning, and you won’t see him at home.” Wolfe explained.
The little mouse kin wasn’t going to be scurried off with a short explanation, though, and she was clearly waiting for more details.
“Under interrogation, he admitted to multiple murders of other Mouse Kin working at the estate, and King Petros executed him for his crimes.” Wolfe relented.
Mini’s eyes went wide, and she fell to her knees, bowing before the King.
“Your Majesty, I am sorry, I didn’t know who you were.” She pleaded.
“See, this is why I didn’t tell anyone my name.”
