Chapter 1039: 1039 Noxus Ascendant

They were almost finished with the last round of morning paperwork and complaints, and for once, they actually had an answer for everyone. Even better, it was not just the generic rejection document that Wolfe usually passed out, which informed the complainant that the Council had chosen not to get involved in their dispute or act on their suggestions at this time.

That would hopefully calm some of the repeat complaints, the ones that Wolfe had just been telling no every single day without an explanation.

The ten new Pentacle companions were getting excited about the afternoon’s work, as they had all the boring stuff out of the way early, and they were going to be with Wolfe all day long.

But as they worked, there was a rumbling in the mana inside Forest Grove, a massive disturbance that none of them could quite understand.

None of them except Wolfe, that is. He could feel the imbalance in the Pentacles as Risa broke through to Rank Seven, becoming an Overlord and dragging the rest of the Pentacle members with her.

“Good news, everyone. I am going to cast a spell, and you are going to say you accept. There is no better time than now to form the Pentacles, as the other fifteen members are becoming Saints, and there will be a massive amount of mana overflow that will spread first to other Pentacle members and then to the others linked to me in the city.” Wolfe announced.

“Are you sure you can just decide like that?” One of the girls asked, though Wolfe didn’t see which one.

“Of course I can. It’s my decision, though I do listen to my advisors. None of them objected to any of you, and neither do I. If we don’t bond you now, it will take years for you to make up the difference in what you miss out.

Don’t worry about the knowledge, we will start the youngsters on magic training tomorrow to catch up to your power.” Wolfe added.

Khalifa smiled in anticipation as she also began to feel the disturbance in the mana of the city, as would every Witch and Fae in the next few minutes.

Wolfe began to form two Pentacle spells, carefully linking them to the three he already had active, and did his best to sound official as he addressed the Candidates.

“Do you accept the responsibilities, duties and power that come with this Pentacle Bond?” He asked.

“We Do.”

“Do you accept that, from this day forward, your priority shall always be the betterment of the people of Forest Grove and its allied territories?”

“We Do.”

“Do you agree that this bond shall remain in place for the remainder of your natural lives?” Wolfe continued.

“We Do.”

“Then let the Pentacles be formed.” He finished.

The power surged between them as Wolfe opened his mana flow to all five Pentacles, allowing them to use his reserves to attempt to balance themselves while the new pair formed.

The result was chaos.

A wave of mana so intense that it dropped the majority of the residents of Forest Grove to their knees surged between the linked members. The mana fluctuated between Witch, Demon and Fae optimizations before finally finding a balance that was all of the above, but somehow similar to Wolfe’s mana, before it was corrupted by the lowest planes.

The ambient mana levels were increasing, and a fog began to form over the city. It was not water, but liquid mana, dispersed into an atmosphere that couldn’t handle any more.

The more powerful Demons and Fae in town, the only ones who could protect themselves against the onslaught, breathed the mist in awe, feeling their own power levels surge simply by existing in this place. It was practically paradise for any magical being, and they were lucky enough to be standing here when it happened.

They didn’t understand what was going on, they only knew that they would be devastated when it ended, and their chance to surpass their limits was pulled out from under them.

So, every magic user in the city did their best to gather what they could, heedless of any danger that it might pose.

Once again, their activities had attracted visitors, and two massive, winged forms circled the city before landing on the stage and transforming into an elderly couple with long, almost Elven ears, and golden scales on their arms.

The ancient dragons had come to see what the residents of Forest Grove were up to.

Wolfe noticed their presence, but they weren’t threatening anyone, only bathing in the mana mist as if it were the most refreshing of spring mornings, and watching the residents try to meditate or at least get up off the ground.

[Wolfe, do you feel that? This is incredible. I didn’t know that Witch Magic could be like this.] Cassie mused as power surged from Wolfe through the link.

[It’s incredible. You should see how happy all the others are to be here for it.] Wolfe replied, not wanting to alarm her. She should be underground right now, so she would not have seen the chaos on the surface, only what was going on with those closest to her.

Ella was thinking the same thing, but a few of the others were more concerned. For example, Mary, who was in the daycare with her companions, and could see the panicked children who didn’t understand the mana mist and weren’t old enough to activate their own powers yet.

But the mana mist seemed to be soaking into their bodies as well, and Mary was concerned that they might be causing permanent changes to the residents of the city.

That was a valid concern, Wolfe thought, as he watched the groups nearest to him surging in power as the Pentacle bonds took form and tried to balance them with the fifteen others who were becoming Saints right now.

Their mana was definitely different from what it had been before, it had taken on something of Wolfe’s own as he poured massive amounts from his reserves to bolster the area’s natural flow.

When the Witches completed their change, they would need a huge amount of mana to stabilize their auras, and the Demons would need even more, as a Demon Overlord’s body physically changed in sometimes dramatic ways to better handle mana flow as they advanced.
