Chapter 1074: 1074 Noxus Palace
Wolfe placed all of the items from the Chronos Family into a storage bag, and tucked it inside his robes.
“You found a storage bag? Oh, those are useful. Did they make it with Space Magic, or did they use a displacer beast’s eye?” He asked.
“Pardon? I have no idea how they’re made.” Wolfe replied.
He took the bag out and showed it to the Lich Lord.
“Oh, yeah, it’s the low-grade version, not even a displacer beast, they used some alternate beast material.
Given what you told me, I would assume that all of the crafting techniques of the Magi have been lost, but I will give you one as a gift in appreciation for your assistance. If you link a portal to a pocket dimension, like this, you can make one large enough to hide a city inside, even at the Fifth Rank.
Look for strange entrances when you are at the Noxus Family house. They went to war early and in the largest numbers, so they probably didn’t clean out the house completely, and they should still have a few Family Elder restricted treasure rooms left using this spell.
You can put it in a pocket, or a bag, anything with a defined entrance. It was one of the primary reasons that Magi wore real clothing, other than being able to drop their defensive magic to show that they didn’t consider their host a threat.”
Wolfe chuckled. “I must seem horribly rude, but I use the spell for all my clothing, and it seems a bit odd to show up naked.”
Asmodai laughed. “This isn’t truly a safe place at the moment. If your Mana Cleansing works, then it might be in the future, but I can’t use Unholy Magic. Very few outside the Noxus Family can.”
Wolfe nodded. “There are many specialist Elements that have been lost. Some of them are so lost that I don’t even know their names anymore, but even Light Magic is exceedingly rare, other than what the Witches and Fae can do.”
Asmodai laughed. “There are some that were elusive enough to begin with. Like the Nicola Family’s Technomancy, which is actually a sub discipline of Lightning, much like Electromagnetism.”
Wolfe nodded. “I am familiar with Electromagnetism, we use it to make magical vehicles now. Once we have the remote viewing spell in place, you will be able to learn many new things about how we are rebuilding the world.
Technomancy sounds interesting though, if I find information on it, I will be sure to make a copy.”
Asmodai sighed. “I should let you go before the urge to keep talking for years overcomes me. It’s incredibly boring here with everyone gone from the house.”
Wolfe rose to his feet and shook the undead’s hand. “That is understandable. It is my sincere hope that your situation will change soon. Perhaps a few extra days with a friendly companion might help the situation.”
Asmodai laughed at the reminder that Wolfe had granted enough mana to the housekeeper at the beach house to clear her thoughts, so the Vampire should be coming to see him soon. In life, they had been quite close, and in undeath they were even closer.
Wolfe rejoined his escorts, and began leading the way to the Noxus Family’s main house.
The miasma of corruption was thicker with every passing kilometre, and even with his Mana Purification at full strength, Wolfe eventually had to slow down so that he didn’t get into waters that weren’t fully cleansed.
Whoever had cast this corrupting spell had most likely been a King, meaning it was highly likely to be the previous head of the Noxus Family.
“Is it supposed to be this bad? We’ve never come in this far before. I don’t think that anyone has seen this region since the war.” One of the mermen asked as Wolfe slowed even further, ensuring that the gathered corruption was fully cleansed before he advanced.
“I believe that a number of the corrupted might have gathered here. It is also possible that this is the source of the spell that is corrupting the area as well, so it might not be a spell over the whole continent, but one spell that has spread through the waters over time.” Wolfe explained.
“If it really is just coming from here, won’t that mean that it will slowly fade if you manage to cleanse the source? The Queen will be overjoyed at any improvement, as the corruption has been spreading.”
“It is possible, but first we need to find the actual source. I don’t know where it is, or even what it is. It might be the result of some human weapon from the war having a negative interaction with one of the barriers and letting Unholy Magic leak out into the area.” Wolfe explained.
The three Fae looked horrified at the idea, but from what Wolfe could tell, it was a possibility. The Magi generally weren’t vindictive enough to poison an entire ocean in vengeance, but it might have been intended to protect the memorial, and the toxicity of the waters may have been an unintended side effect that nobody was alive to fix.
By the time that they reached the barrier around the Noxus Family property, the miasma was so thick that they were having to stop every few metres to wait for the waters to clear. However, Wolfe had found the source of the problem. There was something against the barrier not far away, and it was causing the massive toxic leak into the ocean.
What it was, he couldn’t tell yet, but he was slowly making his way in that direction, with a secondary barrier up to push the corrupted water out of their way.
He was sure not to use Unholy in the barrier, in case he made the issue worse, but there was still no guarantee that he could resolve the problem. At least, not without bringing more people down here.
Eventually, it came into sight, and Wolfe realized that it was actually a simple issue, and a tactic that he had seen before. Truckloads of Null Stone had been dumped against the barrier, and a combination of Witch Curse energy and Unholy Magic was being siphoned off.
But the Null Stone was tainted black, completely saturated with energy that it couldn’t nullify for some reason, and the excess was bleeding into the water.
“You three stand back. This part could get a bit dangerous.”
