Chapter 1131: 1131 Shotgun Wedding

The bride and groom realized right away that the bride’s father had something in mind, and that there was an excellent chance that they were not going to like it.

The young couple had fallen for each other the first night, and they had put great effort into evading their parents’ supervision to be alone the night that Rail advanced. It was obvious that the bride’s father wanted to use this as an opportunity to chastise the groom, but they couldn’t think of a way to keep that from happening without causing a scene.

Carmine, Demon Princess of the Nephrite Kingdom, stepped forward to pause the flow of events.

“Fortunately for us, the Groom is now the Bishop Of Sulzheim, having taken his father’s throne. So, there are strict legal rituals that must be followed for the wedding to be official.” She explained as she took a small book from one of the servants.

“This is usually used in the case of a concubine or a second wife, if the first should pass during childbirth, but it applies to all marriages of the Bishop.”

The bride and groom both heaved a sigh of relief that there was a strict ritual to follow, and that her angry father would not be able to use the event to unleash his anger.

The older man looked incredibly put out by the information, and began to flip through the notes that he had been handed about the wedding ceremony. If he wasn’t going to be able to use it to demand justice for his daughter, he wasn’t all that interested.

“It says here that the highest ranking available religious figure should be the one to hold the ceremony. Do we have any such person here?” He finally asked.

An old woman raised her hand and moved up by the stage. She was some sort of forest Fae, and so old that it looked like her body was turning back to dust while she was still alive.

“You could call me a religious figure. I am the daughter of the Forest God. I am also a High Priestess of the Fae deities, and an Ordained Forest Lord, well on my way to becoming a minor God myself.” She quietly announced.

Wolfe had no idea how that worked, but all of the Fae in the room were nodding politely, so it must be true, though it looked like she would die long before she reached the King Rank, much less something beyond that.

Perhaps, it was just the nature of her species that they were stronger once they left their mortal forms behind?

The father of the bride smiled. “Well, I don’t suppose that we can get a much higher religious figure than an actual Demigod in mortal form. Would you be so kind as to do the honours?”

The old woman rose to the stage with a gust of magic, and Wolfe stepped back to give her more room.

Fae ceremonies always involved magic, illusions and fancy effects, so she was going to need the space to finish her tasks.

The old woman looked at the book, sighed and rolled her eyes. The traditional ceremonies of humans were nothing like what she was accustomed to, but by the laws of that nation, which hadn’t been changed yet by the change in symbolic leadership, the marriage needed to be done that way.

“Noble guests, we are gathered her today under the light of the Gods to join the most illustrious Bishop of Sulzheim with his bride, Penelope of Kanheim. If there should be any objections, let them speak now, so the almighty might strike down the blasphemers.” She began.

That part actually made the old woman giggle a little, as it was clearly an excuse for her to just kill anyone who objected to the wedding, on behalf of their god, of course. A few of the other Fae and Demons were quietly laughing that the humans would put that into their ceremonies, but it was a fairly standard part of Demon wedding rituals.

The Wrath Demons would never pass up a chance to beat up their new partner’s ex, and most of the others had introduced something similar, as an excuse to chase off Lust Demons who might have been courting one of the wedding partners in the past.

“As there are no objections, I will ask the Bishop if he has prepared his own vows.”

The groom shook his head, and the old Fae continued.

“Repeat after me. I, Bishop Kolos the First, blessed of the light and leader of the faithful, do swear before the deity that I shall love and honour this woman for all my life, lest holy wrath strikes me down.”

The groom repeated the words, and a surge of magic flowed between him and the Fae, the beginnings of a magical marriage contract.

Then she turned to the bride. “I Lady Penelope of Kanheim, do swear to serve the light of the deity before me as the Cardinal Bride and beloved of Bishop Kolos The First. Forever will I honour and cherish him, lest holy wrath strikes me down for infidelity.”

The spell bound the three of them together, and Wolfe did his very best not to laugh. The wording was intended for a priest of the Sulzheim religion to speak the words, not a budding young Deity of the Fae.

Well, technically she was ancient by his standards, but young for a deity. But still, as she had spoken the words of the ritual, the spell had bound them to her and not to an outside source. It would be her magic in the spell that struck them down if they broke the wedding vows, and the look on the old woman’s face when she cast the spell was priceless.

But it was nearly complete, and the green nature magic that was binding the hands of the bride and groom together was fading, but left behind a small tattoo on the ring finger of both parties.

It was the spell inscription for the wedding binding, an effect that wouldn’t normally happen, as the Sulzheim religion didn’t actually have a living deity. Or, they had forgotten who it was, so they couldn’t use any sort of magic to connect with it the way that the Fallen Empire did with their Divine One.
