Chapter 753
Bear-san Learns New Skills
After canceling the contract with Mumroot-san, I went to the room where the magic circle carpets were stored to nullify Kagali-san’s magic contract as well.
When I looked into the room, I found Kagali-san looking at the magic circle carpet.
“What is this? It looks very similar to the magic circle… Is it the same application as this one? I don’t know. This is…” (Kagali)
Kagali-san looked at the carpet with the magic circle on it, as well as a paper with a magic circle written on it, as if she was about to devour it.
“Kagali-san.” (Yuna)
“What? I’m busy right now. I don’t want you to interrupt me.” (Kagali)
“I’d like to cancel the Contract Magic with Kagali-san.” (Yuna)
“No need to, I’m not going to tell your secret to anyone anyway.” (Kagali)
“I’m glad to hear that. I trust Kagali-san too. But if the time comes when you have to tell someone about me, I don’t want my next visit to the Land of Wa to be Kagali-san dying of laughter.” (Yuna)
Kagali-san took her eyes off the magic circle and looked at me as if I had said something strange.
Then she responded.
“…I understand.” (Kagali)
Kagali-san followed me over to the room where the magic circle carpet for the Contract Magic was placed.
The contract was then immediately cancelled.
“It should be fine now, right?” (Kagali)
After the contract with Kagali-san was cancelled, Kagali-san immediately returned to the room where the magic circle carpets were stored.
“She seems to have taken a liking to magic circles, huh?” (Mumroot)
“Is it alright to show her? They are valuable, right?” (Yuna)
“There are some magic circles that are indeed valuable. But I believe in Kagali, just as you believed in her when you cancelled your contract with her. I know that Kagali will not abuse the use of magic circles.” (Mumroot)
When he said that, I couldn’t say anything back to him.
“Yes, I agree.” (Yuna)
“But some of them are dangerous, so I’ll keep an eye on her just in case.” (Mumroot)
Mumroot-san got up and left the room.
I remained in the room and looked at the magic circle on the carpet. Then I heard a beeping sound in my head.
I reacted quickly. It was the sound of a text message.
I immediately opened my status.
There was an e-mail.
“I have added a new skill.” (God)
There was an email from God with that written in it.
It had been a while since I last received an e-mail, but I wondered what this was about?
I was curious about the statement in the e-mail that God added a skill, so I checked my skills.
There really was a new skill.
Bear Magic Circle
This skill allowed the user to generate a magic circle with magic power.
It could be done by following the instructions.
I could now create a magic circle?
There was some more information in the magic circle section.
There were two types of magic circles: Bear Magic Enhancement Magic Circle and Bear Contract Magic Circle.
Only two?
I wondered if there would be more in the future…
Or do I have to create them myself?
But it was nice to know that I could now use Contract Magic.
Time to check each of them.
Bear Magic Enhancement Magic Circle:
When one was inside the magic circle, their magic efficiency would be strengthened.
Underneath the information, a bear’s face was drawn.
Was this supposed to be the magic circle?
There was an image of a smug looking bear emoticon as if to make it look strong.
Do I have to draw a magic circle in this image?
I have some thoughts, but for now, I should check the next magic circle.
Bear Contract Magic Circle:
To use the magic circle, each of the two parties, who will be involved in the contract, had to place their hands on the magic circle then declare the contents of the contract. The effect would be activated by mutual acceptance.
After it was established, if someone tried to mention details of the contract, they would be compelled to only mention the word “bear” replacing the word that they wanted to say. Even if they tried to circumvent the magic contract by writing the information on a piece of paper, they would only be able to write or draw a “bear”.
That was what the instructions said.
I would certainly prefer this than the other party ending up dying from continuous laughter. Though, I would like to comment that this penalty sounded more like a bear’s curse.
This one had a different effect compared to the other Magic Circle.
There were two bear’s faces on the magic circle.
Somehow, it looked like the faces of Swaying Bear and Hugging Bear.
At any rate, it seemed that putting one’s hand on each bear’s face would create a contract.
It seemed that you could cancel the contract in the same way, by saying the terms of the contract and mutually agreeing to terminate the contract.
The problem with this skill was that I had to memorize the magic circles to be able to use them.
I did not know if there would be more magic circles added in the future, but it would be a hassle to memorize all of them if their number of unique bear magic circles increased.
This would need to be verified.
And so, I rolled up the carpet with the Contract Magic and then put my magic circle on the space around the end of the carpet.
Then, after confirming that no one was in the room, I tried to draw the Bear Contract Magic Circle with my magic power.
I drew two round-faced Bear faces, then drew eyes and mouths.
Finally, I drew a line connecting the bears’ faces to each other to complete the drawing.
I think it looked like this.
The floor was glowing with magic power.
If the magic power disappeared, that would mean that the contract had been established, I suppose.
I would like to verify if it was effective, but Contract Magic could not be done by one person.
Also, did the Bear Magic Enhancement Magic Circle mean that it could strengthen my magic even further?
Or was this something like a limited use magic circle?
God, you’re not trying to make me fight against something weird by making my magic enhanced, right?
I wonder if they just happened to see magic circles and decided to grant some to me.
The e-mail was one way, so I couldn’t confirm my guess.
Well, there was no use in worrying about it, so I decided to make use of this new skill gratefully.
“What are you doing?” (Kagali)
Mumroot-san and Kagali-san returned while I was practicing drawing magic circles.
“Oh, were you drawing bears with magic?” (Kagali)
Kagali said as she looked at the magic circle of bears on the floor.
“Not exactly, but why is Kagali-san here? Wasn’t she looking at magic circles?” (Yuna)
“I was looking at magic circles with Mumroot, but Bena got mad at me.” (Kagali)
“It was Kagali’s fault for not cleaning up and she just kept unrolling magic circle carpets one after the other.” (Mumroot)
“You were also unrolling various magic circle carpets, asking me to take a look at them.” (Kagali)
Apparently, Mumroot-san, who had gone to see what was going on, also ended up looking at magic circles along with Kagali-san.
Thus, the room ended up in a terrible mess, and apparently Bena-san scolded them.
“Hmmm, this drawing is not ordinary.” (Kagali)
Kagali-san said while looking at the bear magic circle I had drawn, perhaps to change the subject.
“You can tell?” (Yuna)
“Only vaguely.” (Kagali)
“This is a magic circle of Contract Magic.” (Yuna)
“Contract Magic?” (Kagali)
In response to my words, Kagali-san looked at the bear magic circle again.
“I’ve never seen a magic circle like this. Of course, I don’t know all magic circles, but I’ve never seen a magic circle with a bear’s face on it. Did you create it?” (Kagali)
Kagali-san looked at me and the magic circle alternately.
“Kagali-san, I’d like to try it out, if you don’t mind.” (Yuna)
“Very well. I’ll be your test subject.” (Kagali)
“Young Lady, just to make sure, is there any danger involved?” (Mumroot)
Mumroot-san asked anxiously.
Well, Mumroot-san’s Contract Magic did have a risk of dying.
“I think it’s probably safe. But I’ve never tried it before.” (Yuna)
I didn’t need to explain why.
“It’s not like the effect will go berserk and kill you. Yuna would never create such a magic circle. Above all, this bears’ face doesn’t look like it’s a dangerous magic circle at all.” (Kagali)
At Kagali-san’s words, Mumroot-san looked at the magic circle with the bears’ face and agreed.
“Well then, Mumroot-san, cover your ears. If you know the details of my contract with her, I cannot perform the experiment.” (Yuna)
“What about me?” (Kagali)
“You’re the only one who should hear this.” (Yuna)
Mumroot-san covered his ears when he was told so.
“Come on, let’s get on with it.” (Kagali)
“Okay, now put your hand on that bear’s face.” (Yuna)
Kagali-san did as she was told and put her hand on the bear’s face.
I put my hand on the face of the other bear.
“Oh, and by the way, if you try to speak about the contract, your words will be changed to [bear].” (Yuna)
As I explained this, Kagali-san’s hand quickly moved away from the magic circle.
“You want me to be a bear?” (Kagali)
“No, bears don’t call themselves bears.” (Yuna)
“That’s true.” (Kagali)
She seemed convinced and put her hand back on the magic circle.
“Now, tell me a secret you don’t want Mumroot to know.” (Kagali)
“Well…” (Yuna)
I thought for a moment.
“Let’s just say that the underwear you are wearing are bear themed.” (Kagali)
“Wait, that’s a super-secret information. How do you know that?” (Yuna)
“You know how many times I taken a bath alongside you. And when you stayed at that house…” (Kagali)
“Ugh.” (Yuna)
At any rate, that was more than enough. I couldn’t come up with any other secret. With this, the contract should activate.
“You must not tell anyone about my underwear.” (Yuna)
“Acknowledged.” (Kagali)
The magic circle glowed strongly for a moment.
It felt like a contract had been signed.
“Now the deal is done.” (Kagali)
Kagali-san looked at Mumroot-san and gestured for him to stop covering his ears.
Mumroot-san removed his hands from his ears.
“I guess that’s good enough for now.” (Yuna)
“Then I’ll tell him.” (Kagali)
Kagali-san declared.
“Bear.” (Kagali)
The word “bear” came out of Kagali-san’s mouth.
“Bear?” (Mumroot)
Mumroot-san tilted his head.
“It’s like you are trying to divulge a secret, but all I hear is you saying [bear].” (Mumroot)
“Bear bear bear…” (Kagali)
Kagali-san tried to speak further, but kept calling out [bear].
Apparently, she was attempting to talk about my underwear.
“So, all I can really say is [bear]. It’s a terrible curse.” (Kagali)
Kagali-san looked frightened.
“No, it’s better than dying.” (Kagali)
“Indeed it is.” (Mumroot)
Next she tried to write the information on a piece of paper, but the paper had the drawing of a simple bear drawn on it.
“This is just a bear’s curse, right?” (Kagali)
Well, that’s what I thought at first, too. Yet it was sad to hear someone else say that though.
Now that the Contract Magic’s effectiveness had been proven, we cancelled the contract.
“Now all we have to do is make sure Contract Magic is lifted.”
Kagali-san looked at Mumroot-san.
“Wait!” (Yuna)
I tried to stop her, but Kagali-san said first.
“This girl’s underwear…” (Kagali)
I stopped her physically after she said that much.
“You don’t have to use force. I was only attempting to speak. I won’t say anything more than that.” (Kagali)
I grabbed Kagali-san by the shoulders.
“I’m a woman too, you know, why would I tell him that?” (Kagali)
“Yes, I know, but…” (Yuna)
I thought she was going to speak.
At any rate, we were able to prove the effectiveness of the Bear Contract Magic Circle and successfully cancel it.
If I ever need to use Contract Magic in the future, I wouldn’t have to ask Mumroot-san to do it.
Kagali-san was so cute when she just kept saying “Bear bear bear”.
…
Author note:
It’s a skill that I wanted to teach Yuna for a long time.
When I first wrote about contract magic, I thought it would be interesting, but I didn’t have the time to explore it further, so I left it alone – Kumanano
