Chapter 4712: Competition

At Yunxiao Mountain, the Azure Emperor was currently taking his three disciples on a journey to prepare for their annual competition.

The three disciples sat with him on a flying artifact, soaring through the sky after leaving Yunxiao Mountain. They gazed down at the many landscapes passing beneath them, but their master remained silent about the specifics of the upcoming annual competition.

Since they began their training under the Azure Emperor, they’d participated in smaller, semi-annual competitions, which served as friendly exchanges of skills among themselves. However, their master hadn’t offered a single word about this particular, larger competition, leaving them completely in the dark about what to expect.

Yue’er, nestled between her two brothers, remembered how much their master doted on her. She playfully rolled her beautiful eyes and, with a bright smile, asked, “Master, what is this big competition that happens once a year? Are you taking us to compete with other people?”

The Azure Emperor sat quietly, his eyes closed. When he heard her question, he didn’t even open them, simply stating with indifference, “Don’t worry, you’ll find out soon enough.”

Hearing this, Yue’er exchanged a glance with her two brothers and playfully stuck out her tongue in exasperation.

Around noon, the Azure Emperor finally opened his eyes and looked at Muchen and Muyue. “I will give you one month,” he announced. “After one month, you must bring back 100 crystal cores that you hunted yourselves and return to Yunxiao Mountain alone. You cannot use or rely on flying to return; you must walk back on foot. If you fail to return to Yunxiao Mountain after one month, then you will have to accept punishment.”

“Master wants us to hunt beasts and obtain 100 crystal cores, and then return to Yunxiao Mountain alone on foot? We can’t even travel together?” Muchen couldn’t help but ask, clearly bewildered. It had taken their master’s flying artifact an entire morning just to reach their current location. If they had to walk, how long would it possibly take them to get back to Yunxiao Mountain?

“Yes, you cannot travel together. You must walk back alone,” the Azure Emperor reiterated with an air of indifference. He then looked at them and continued, “I will divide three strands of my divine consciousness and place them on each of you. I will know everything you do. If there is danger, you must learn to save yourselves, but when you encounter danger that you cannot resolve, you may call for me to save you. However, should you call for my intervention, that person will automatically withdraw from the competition and must return to Yunxiao Mountain to accept the punishment for failure.”

Hearing this, Yue’er blinked her eyes, a spark of curiosity in her gaze. “Master, what is the punishment if we fail?” she inquired.

The Azure Emperor glanced at her. “The punishment for the two of you is that for the next year, you can only eat fasting pills and cannot consume any food. Furthermore, you must be separated from each other and cannot meet or practice cultivation with the other two.”

Upon hearing this, Muchen and Muyue’s young faces immediately became serious. The thought of eating fasting pills was unappealing, but the idea of being separated and unable to see each other was far worse. They yearned to practice together every day, share conversations, and grow up side-by-side. The prospect of a year apart, alone, was something they couldn’t even begin to imagine.

“I don’t want to be separated from my brother and Big Brother,” Yue’er said hurriedly, her voice earnest. “I want to cultivate with them, play with them, and grow up together.”

“Then work hard in this competition,” the Azure Emperor said slowly, his gaze sweeping over them. “If you can all return to Yunxiao Mountain within a month, you will not need to accept punishment.”
