Chapter 481: Deadly Poison?!
The most delicious poison…
GODDAMNIT! Jack couldn’t help but curse.
No wonder the High Shaman was that friendly! At this moment, the guy was going for an assassination attempt in broad daylight?! There was only one way to react to this.
Jack drank it all…
He acted so parched, gulping the liquid faster than a Simp would drink his crush’s nectar. He felt it go down his throat, enter his belly, and invade his soul incredibly fast.
Seeing that everything had been consumed, the High Priest gave a low chuckle.
“Let us work together to conquer those vile humans!”
And just like that, they both cheered and toasted. In fact, after a few minutes, the two could be seen leaving the Tower together, a few citizens’s eyes glowing to no end.
“Look, it’s the General and the High Shaman!”
“With both working together, we’ll win!”
“Our enemies stand no chance at all!”
If they didn’t murder each other.
Smiling, Jack waved everyone involved goodbye. But he had barely left that a sly grin showed on his face. “System. Aren’t you gonna give me the message?”
[Ding! Successfully Detected Soul Poison!]
“Hey, that’s not too accurate either.” Who else but Jack would berate the system that often? The poor thing quickly changed its tune, quickly making everything he already knew clear.
[Ding! Soul Poison Worms Detected!]
[They Are Devouring Your Soul Already!]
[Warning! Warning! Heal it or Else…. BAD END!]
Oh, it wouldn’t just be a bad end, but a shitshow. How many Rankers had fallen to soul-affecting ailments in his previous life? Not many, but enough to give them all PTSD!
But now that he knew, everything would be fine.
A poison in his soul? He just happened to have the perfect counter to that. After all, his soul contained a Demon King’s best friend and a corrupted devil.
Which one would he use to deal with that? Neither…
At this moment, a grin slowly blossomed on his face. He could use this! But for that, he’d need a few things. First a diversion, then helpers, and finally…. Yes, this could work!
But before that, he still had something to do…
“LOG OUT!”
Never had a man crashed as fast as he had. He had barely escaped the VR capsule when he found himself in dreamland. Except that dreamland was very odd.
He dreamed of an apocalyptic land, one rife with war and destruction.
Amidst that land, there were behemoths fighting for power and dominance, making the world tremble with every step. Except, many somehow had human appearances.
As he raised his eyes, all he could see were twin peaks all over…
A domineering and voluptuous Pumpkin Girl…
A terrifying and mysterious Death Goddess…
A mischievous and graceful Bubblegum…
A mighty and glitchy System…
A bashful lizard girl…
They seemed to be fighting over something?! It seemed to be a plushie of a Pumpkin Knight, one with a demonic grin on. Wait… was that supposed to be him?!
And as if that wasn’t enough, there was even a glorious billboard behind the scene of carnage, one that read: <Best Girl Tournament! Are You Wife Material? >
“What the hell is this? That’s a bit over the top….”
He had barely remarked when everything went to Hell. A ginormous face suddenly appeared amidst the clouds, as if a goddess, one with the most gorgeous purple eyes.
“Lilly? What are you doing here?”
“Doing? Crushing the competition, obviously!”
That’s when she suddenly took a finger out, pointed it toward the gigantic figures underneath, and then… CRACKLE! CRACKLE! Wiped them from the face of the Earth!
Charred remains, blood staining the ground, and ashes scattered to the seven winds. After which, Lilly gave the brightest smile, one that was so cute and wholesome.
“Now we can be together forever. Isn’t that the best?”
And that’s when he woke up in sweat. Talk about a weird dream! There was no way the sweet Lilly would ever— He was in his bed, but there was a weight above him.
Black flowing hair, a gentle embrace, and a calming scent.
Lilly, on a chair next to him as he slumbered.
It seemed like she had been embracing him as he slept, possibly to ward off nightmares, and had somehow fallen asleep herself along the way. She seemed so peaceful.
For an instant, he stayed just like that…
Was she feeling lonely? He had been playing Infinite so much in a row with that Lizard quest that it was normal. As soon as this was over, he’d better bring her to have fun.
Anything she wanted. A fancy restaurant. Or maybe an amusement park? Whatever it was, he’d let her choose! Moving away, he gently laid her on the bed.
She instantly found his pillow, latching to it as if a baby koala. Cute! Chuckling, he left the room, not even sure what time it was, and yet there he was.
The old man, one who didn’t look so old anymore.
He was in the living room, exercising?!
Except the way he was exercising was truly heartwarming. On the TV, an old tape of a wedding played with a young and hopeful couple dancing energetically.
And now he was listening to it, reproducing it move for move, which wasn’t that easy. It was classic dancing most of the time, but there were even breakdancing moves in there!
And just like that, he spun around and—
“Jack?! How long have you been watching?!” He majestically blushed.
“How long? Long enough to understand that you could have totally worked as an exotic dancer in your youth! Those moves, damn! Very hot!” Jack mercilessly teased him, or tried.
“Bah, what do you know, kid! I could totally pull it off even now! But I’m guessing that’s not what you want to know at the moment, right?” As he said, Jack nodded.
The Old Man didn’t waste any time, grabbing a file nearby…
“Here, read it. Just don’t let Lilly see it. It’s too soon.”
Jack hurriedly nodded as he skimmed the file. It was from the hospital: the test they had done with the statue, a concerning one.
— Unidentified Energy Traces Detected!
— Buddha Statue Completely Empty
— Whatever Magic it Had is Gone
— No Further Information
…..
Lots of tests, none conclusive, the item extremely mysterious. Jack read it all with rapt attention, lost in thoughts. Could this thing really be special?!
Unknown energy, was it? Was it not only a collection item? Suddenly, he felt quite silly. For all his previous life experiences, he still had no clue how to deal with this.
Had the supernatural always been real?
Or was it because he had reincarnated himself?
Could he be in a mystical alternate reality instead?
He didn’t know, nor did he care, to be honest. “I see. I won’t tell her just yet. But I do know there are more statues like this one. We’ll keep searching for them.”
“We?” The Old Man raised a brow.
“We at Pumpkin Gaming!” Jack offhandedly remarked, already opening his cell to see the progress on that front. But a second later, he couldn’t help but start laughing.
Wow! Would you look at that? It seemed like his people were even more effective than he had originally believed! After all, he was now faced with the greatest surprise ever.
< Boss, the Studio’s ready! Just waiting on you for the lease…>
< Boss, we really need your signature for this…>
< Boss, can’t wait for you to come back…>
Not only was everything ready, but it had been for two whole days?! How long had he gamed in a row?! No, he was better not knowing. Instead, he sent a quick message.
< I’m here now. Let’s settle everything today!>
This would be EPIC! He couldn’t wait…
