Just as he took a look at the list of notifications he got after tapping on what he thought was a fatal spot, Valyr quickly felt a wave of disorientation hit him as his vision began to undergo a drastic change.
For a brief moment, all of the colors in his vision had disappeared, causing him to view the battlefield surrounding him in various shades of black and white.
Then, after that, his vision went ahead and disappeared all of a sudden, making it seem as if he didn't even have a sense of sight in the first place.
Thankfully, his vision gradually began to return after a few more minutes of waiting, slowly transitioning from a blurry mess surrounding him, to a level of clarity that was more or less what he was used to before the transformation.
However, just as he thought his vision had stopped changing, the clarity of his vision began to improve even further, giving him the ability to spot the imperfections on the dark entities' bodies without even using hyperfocus.
Curious as to whether his sight would remain in its current state from now on, Valyr eventually got his answer once his vision began to return to normal a couple minutes later, prompting him to inwardly let out the sigh of relief he was holding in all this time.
At the same time, the crimson rings surrounding his pupils were replaced with crimson trefoils. Though, the trefoils only appeared for a bit before disappearing entirely.
"Haah." Closing his eyes for a bit, Valyr gave himself all the time he needed to acclimate to the vision the upgraded version of his previous skill gave him, deactivating the skill the very moment the system allowed him to.
Surprisingly, it was only after five minutes had passed did the young man open his eyes once more, immediately noticing that the battlefield surrounding him earlier had disappeared during that time.
Shifting his gaze towards the man that caused the transformation, Valyr raised his eyebrow as he noticed the slight grin on Jekyll's face.
"Congratulations," said the man. "With that version of the skill now under your belt, you could say that you now see the world in the same way I do."
Whoosh!
At those words, a pair of crimson trefoils appeared around Jekyll's pupils, prompting Valyr to nod in response after looking at them for a bit.
Briefly closing his eyes after that, the young man soon let out a short exhale as he looked back at the man in front of him with a calm expression.
Then, without hesitation, he went ahead and activated the skill he'd just obtained, wanting to better familiarize himself with what the new skill was capable of.
"[Warrior's Eyes of Slaughter]."
Swoosh!
As his vision went through the various changes he'd gone through earlier in a span of a second, a pair of crimson trefoils soon appeared around Valyr's pupils, causing the grin on Jekyll's face to become wider than it already was.
Deciding to ignore what was going on in the man's mind for the meantime, Valyr began to look around the room to get used to the kind of vision the skill gave him, only to blurt out a couple of words not long after that Jekyll greatly resonated with.
"Overwhelming… no. Unlike [Hunter's Tracking Eyes], this is already way beyond overwhelming."
"It definitely takes some time getting used to," said Jekyll as he nodded in agreement. "After all, the skill shows you the world around you through a lens that goes beyond what even [Hunter's Tracking Eyes] at its limits could show."
"If I were to describe it, it's like seeing the world that's invisible to the naked eye," continued the man, making the young man look at him for a brief moment before returning his focus to the room they were in.
"I'm pretty sure I told you something like this back when you inherited [Hunter's Tracking Eyes] from me, but I feel like it's better for me to repeat it again, lest you forget."
"Using the hyperfocus ability that [Gambler's Discerning Eyes], you're able to see things from a lens that offers you greater detail. However, that only magnifies what could already be seen with enough effort. In other words, you're looking at the pinnacle of the surface."
"On the other hand, [Hunter's Tracking Eyes] goes one step beyond that, allowing you to pierce through that surface with ease and gaze into a realm that goes beyond what's already there. In other words, you're looking at the intangible."
"As for the current set of eyes you have, you could say that it's more or less the same as the previous version, giving you the ability to look at the intangible."
"Though, aside from giving you greater ease when it comes to peering into this realm, the skill also allows you to begin tackling the realm of the intangible from a perspective that you might have probably noticed by now."
Hearing those words, Valyr glanced at Jekyll with slight confusion before beginning to look around the room with the skill enabled.
After that, he then closed his eyes for a while as his mind began to process and compare the view the current skill showed him to the view he'd gotten used to whenever he activated [Hunter's Tracking Eyes].
Aside from the obvious differences the two skills had in terms of capability, Valyr eventually had an answer in his mind that caused him to start looking at Jekyll in slight disbelief. "The skill… creates its own vital spots?"
"Exactly." Jekyll nodded in response to Valyr's answer, only to then let out a peal of laughter before continuing with his explanation. "Remember the steps I told you so you could upgrade [Hunter's Tracking Eyes] to its current form?"
"Yeah?" Valyr nodded after some time, rummaging through his memories for a bit to recall the words Jekyll told him. "You told me that the skill was merely an extension of the foundation I've already built with [Hunter's Tracking Eyes]."
"Yes, and then…?" asked the man back.
"You told me to find more vital spots since I assumed that was the core to the upgrade," replied the young man, to which Jekyll faintly nodded in agreement. "Then, you told me that if there weren't enough vital spots appearing in my field of vision, I should… create… them…"
"…Huh."
"Although being able to pinpoint vital spots within seconds is definitely an important feature of the skill I've given you, what I truly consider as the core of the skill is that part," said Jekyll, making up his mind to give Valyr a firsthand example of what he meant.
"The part where you create your own vital spots out of thin air."
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
Not even a second after Jekyll began to stare at Valyr, the young man began to feel as if the armor he wore had begun to rust all of a sudden, making him feel as if the lightest touch on his armor would cause it to break.
Though, if he were to describe the feeling he got in greater detail, Valyr instead felt like Jekyll was looking at him as if he wasn't wearing any armor whatsoever. For some reason, he had a feeling that any attack the man threw at him would pierce through his armor with great ease.
However, just as the uncomfortable feeling of vulnerability washed over his entire body, that feeling was immediately replaced with dread and despair as a couple of areas on his body began to give off the feeling that they would deal him massive damage if they were hit with Jekyll.
"…Haah." Thankfully, the looming sensation of death did not last for too long as Jekyll recalled his gaze the moment he felt he was going a bit too overboard.
Giving Valyr all of the time he needed to process the experience he just went through, it was only when the young man looked like he'd calmed down did he ask him a question. "I suppose you now understand what I mean?"
"Yeah." Valyr nodded, slightly shuddering at the thought that he was pretty much at Jekyll's beck and call earlier.
Although he was confident that his strength was enough for him to fight against Jekyll to a standstill at the very least, the young man felt as if such thoughts had disappeared from his mind whenever the man gazed at him with those eyes.
At that moment, he felt as if resistance was the worst thing he could do against the man.
Taking in a few more deep breaths after that to calm himself down, Valyr eventually returned a calm expression to Jekyll, prompting the latter to nod in satisfaction as he continued his explanation.
"If [Hunter's Tracking Eyes] gave you the ability to look at everything the world offered you from a passive standpoint, then [Warrior's Eyes of Slaughter] gives you the ability to look at everything the world offers you from both a passive and active standpoint."
"Honestly, the fact that you could create vital spots from thin air is only the start of what the skill can offer you," said the man, causing Valyr to raise his eyebrow in curiosity. "After all, there's still the fatal spots you've yet to master pinpointing through your newfound vision."
"…Now that I think about it, why don't I show you a small glimpse of how far you can go with this skill?"
"Then again, what should I show you, exactly...? Ah."
"You know what? How about I show you precognition?"
