Chapter 130: The number is gone
Jiang He's current sword was purchased from an online platform. The seller claimed it was a "Longquan Treasure Sword," flashy and quite attractive. Made of patterned steel with high hardness, it was not one of those flimsy stage props. It was significantly heavier than her old sword but felt decent in hand.
However, the blade wasn’t sharpened, making it far from lethal. Jiang He didn’t mind—after all, it was only for practice.
Xu Qing once asked why she continued to practice every day. She said it was simply a habit.
Afternoon
The delivery guy called, saying two packages had been dropped off at the gate. Both were addressed to Jiang He—whenever Xu Qing ordered something for her, he’d put her name on the package.
“What’s that?” Jiang He asked. She was so used to deliveries that she’d once even considered taking the delivery guy’s job.
“Your clothes.”
Xu Qing quickly opened one of the boxes and pulled out a few bras, casually commenting, “Looks like you picked these out yourself—”
Before he could finish, Jiang He, flustered, snatched the box from him.“Don’t touch those!”
“Relax, they’re not my thing,” Xu Qing replied nonchalantly as he opened the other box. This one contained a short-sleeved summer top, also hers. The shirt was light blue with a small dinosaur taking a step forward printed on the front.
“You didn’t get any clothes for yourself?” Jiang He asked, noting that only her clothes were there.
“I have more clothes than you—my wardrobe is full,” Xu Qing replied.
“…” Jiang He realized her question was unnecessary.
Xu Qing repacked the clothes and handed them to her. “Wash them before wearing—don’t put them on right away. Want me to wash them for you?”
“No, I’ll do it myself.”
Jiang He turned to head to her room but stopped upon spotting a card in the box. She picked it up and paused, confused.
“Twenty bucks.”
“What twenty bucks?” Xu Qing asked.
“It says you’ll get twenty back…” Jiang He exclaimed as though discovering treasure. She handed the card to Xu Qing for a look.
“Five-star review with a customer photo for a twenty-dollar refund?”
Xu Qing choked on his own spit. “That’s ridiculous. They think twenty bucks is worth that?!”
Shameless!
Jiang He was puzzled, and when she realized the photo had to be of someone wearing the clothes, her eyes widened.
A photo? While wearing this?
She glanced at the clothes in the box and shook her head vigorously like a rattle drum. “Not doing it!” She threw the card into the trash and headed toward her room, then hesitated and turned back to Xu Qing.
“What?” Xu Qing asked.
“What do you mean, ‘you’ve never seen it’?”
“I’ve never seen it, obviously.”
“…Fair point.”
Jiang He checked the box with the short-sleeved shirt and found another card, this one offering only five dollars back. She muttered, “Scammers.”
“Give me one of the shirts,” Xu Qing suddenly said.
“Why?” Jiang He asked warily.
“To take the photo for the refund. Twenty bucks can get us a pound of pork.”
??
Jiang He somehow grasped his intent, her eyelid twitching. “You… you’re serious?”
“What do you think?”
When Xu Qing went into the bathroom, Jiang He felt a strange sense of excitement, as though they were doing something illicit. Unfortunately, the shirt was too small for him to wear.
…
Half an hour later
Jiang He stared in amazement as Xu Qing transferred thirty yuan to her. She didn’t even care that he’d used her clothes.
“Why thirty?”
“They asked me to delete the photo and paid an extra ten for it.”
“What an odd seller.”
Her face lit up with joy. The shared experience of gaming the system with Xu Qing gave her a sense of excitement, comparable to finding cash on the street.
“It’s so… fun,” Jiang He said.
“What’s fun?” Xu Qing asked.
“This… this…” Jiang He struggled to articulate her feelings.
“Life’s little surprises?” Xu Qing offered, setting his phone aside. “It’s called being resourceful. Extra snacks tonight.”
He understood that it wasn’t about the thirty yuan—it was the little sense of accomplishment and delight they’d shared.
“Deal!” Jiang He agreed enthusiastically, smiling at him.
“You’re so silly,” Xu Qing teased, shaking his head as he booted up his computer. During lunch, he’d promised to send Jiang He some materials via WeChat to help her figure out what she enjoyed doing. Whatever she chose, he’d support her as best he could.
“Sometimes I feel like I’m raising a daughter,” Xu Qing joked. “Don’t you think?”
“Nope.”
“My little girl.”
“I’m not!”
“You even know what that phrase means?” Xu Qing was surprised by her expanding vocabulary.
“I don’t know exactly, but I know you’re teasing me.”
Jiang He playfully clenched her fists at him before heading to the laundry area to sort the clothes.
Xu Qing didn’t say more. He’d wondered if things might get boring once she learned everything, but now it seemed like life with Jiang He would only get more interesting.
He opened the “Small Broken Site” platform and noticed a familiar-sounding alt account causing trouble in his comment section. This user had an uncanny ability to irritate him.
“Is this my dad?”
Xu Qing had suspected this since the second account showed up, but he didn’t dare ask directly. His father, Xu Wenbin, would definitely be offended if confronted, so he just watched the account’s antics.
But how had Xu Wenbin found his videos? Was it sheer coincidence, typing something like “lazy” into the search bar and stumbling upon “Lazy Lord Qing”?
After contemplating, Xu Qing dragged the account into his blocklist, then released it, then blocked it again, before finally calling Qin Hao.
“Did you tell my dad what I go by on the platform?”
Qin Hao sounded baffled. “Huh?”
“Don’t ‘huh’ me! It must’ve been you!”
“Uh…”
“It was you?”
“Hello? Bad signal… this place is terrible…”
Beep… beep… beep…
Xu Qing growled as Qin Hao pretended to lose signal and hung up. Annoyed, he tossed his phone aside and glanced at the comments section.
The best way to stop someone from vlogging, making short videos, or writing novels was to let their parents see it.
It was over.
After some thought, Xu Qing blocked the account for good. Since neither of them had openly confronted each other, Xu Wenbin wouldn’t call him out.
After dealing with the pesky account, Xu Qing spent the afternoon binge-watching shows and editing videos.
By evening, Jiang He returned alone with groceries, preparing another feast. Midway through, Xu Qing’s phone rang.
Seeing Xu Wenbin’s number on the screen, his heart skipped a beat.
Answering the call, he was met with a stern voice: “Did you block my account again?”
“What account?” Xu Qing feigned ignorance.
“Don’t play dumb! I even borrowed Old Qin’s number to get Xiao Hao to help me register!”
“…Fine.”
“Unblock it!”
