Side Story Chapter 179: Paradise (9)“Th-The apostles…”
“Th-This has to be a nightmare—!!!”
“I can’t believe it—!!!”
The residents of Luceo Pure screamed as they pulled on their hair, watching the battle under the night sky. The apostles of the god they worshiped were being gruesomely massacred.
“OhGreatAkartprotectuswiththeLightofTruthOhGreatAkartprotectuswiththeLightofTruthOhGreatAkartprotectuswiththeLightofTruth.”
“LIGHT! LIGHT! LIGHT! LIGHT! LIGHT! LIGHT! LIGHT! LIGHT—!!!”
“O GREAT AKAAAAAAAAAAAART!!!”
The residents screamed fanatically, foaming at the mouth as they prayed for the Apostles of Light to defeat the forces of evil. However, it did not seem like their prayers were reaching Akart.
“Kurgh, cough!”
“H-Help me… my b-body…”The man with a white sword and an angel with twelve black wings were slaughtering the apostles as if they were competing on who could kill more of the apostles. No, it wasn’t just those two.
Clatter—!!
“Heh, these retainers are way weaker than I expected.”
Red chains swirled like a tornado of blood and at its center was a red-haired woman shrugging with her arms crossed.
“It seems the strong numbered apostles haven’t come this time.”
A browned-haired woman landed next to the red-haired woman. She seemed gentle and kind in appearance but the residents knew she was not from how she was slaughtering the apostles with rays of light.
“Hm! I was helpful this time, right?!”
“Hoho. Of course.”
The rampaging black dragon who destroyed half of the Temple of Light turned into a cute black-haired little girl. A black-haired woman smiled seductively and patted the little girl’s head.
“A-Aaaahh.”
The loss was overwhelming. The Apostles of Light were defeated by the unknown invaders all too easily. The residents of Luceo Pure trembled in fear with their mouths agape. Their paradise was invaded— something that had never occurred since the creation of Luceo Pure. Ṝᴀ𐌽ȰβЁś
“Ah, ahh. Can you hear me, everyone?” said Lilith with a smile as she looked down at the residents stricken with fear.
Her sexy voice that could seduce any man echoed throughout the town.
“Fufu. There is no need for you to fear,” she continued in a voice so gentle that one would never think she was a demon. “We have no intention of hurting any of you.”
The residents were left wide-eyed by her unexpected words. Normal people would have doubted her words but the people of Luceo Pure were different. They were not used to lies— they didn’t even know what lying was until a few days ago. They did not doubt anyone’s words, even if they were the sweet whispers of a demon. That was the kind of place Paradise was, a world purer than any.
“H-How dare you do that to the apostles?!” shouted one of the residents who believed Lilith’s words.
Lilith smiled. “Hohoho. We only fought against them because of a personal vendetta. You all can just relax and live as you’ve always done.”
Her black hair expanded widely.
“H-Huh?”
“Th-They’re running away!!!”
“Get them!!!”
A few residents wanted to capture the invaders but they were on top of the tall Temple of Light. Not only could the residents not reach them but they couldn’t capture them even if they did manage to reach them. After all, the residents of Luceo Pure were nothing more than ordinary people.
“Well, then~ farewell, everyone~!”
Lilith waved. Her black hair enveloped the other invaders and they disappeared into the darkness.
“Do we really have to go this far for these lunatics…?” asked Cha Yeon-Joo as she looked down at the residents in displeasure after getting away from them.
“It’s the king’s orders.”
“Haaa. I can never figure out what the hell he’s thinking. Unleashing their desires and whatnot…”
Yeon-Joo couldn’t understand what massacring the apostles had to do with unleashing the residents’ desires. She thought they would naturally hide in their homes in fear because the apostles they trusted were brutally murdered. As she had expected, most of the residents were trembling in pallor.
“Hmm, looks like you really don’t understand,” Lilith remarked.
“Eh? You know what that son of a bitch Oh Kang-Woo is thinking, unnie?”
“Hoho, of course. I’m the king’s beloved wife, after all.”
“What? S-So am I! I-I’m also his… w-wife!” Yeon-Joo shouted.
Lilith giggled at her cute reaction.
“I think I know what Kang-Woo is trying to do as well.” Layla’s eyes shone as she swept her brown hair back.
“You do…?” Yeon-Joo asked.
“Oh, but it’s not because I’m his wife, of course.”
“I wasn’t thinking that.”
“I hate NTR with a passion, after all.”
“What the hell are you even talking about?”
Layla shrugged and examined the panicking residents. She asked, “Yeon-Joo. What are you reminded of when you look at how this town is run?”
“Huh…? Well, a communist state, I guess,” answered Yeon-Joo as she clicked her tongue.
Everyone worked their fair share and was rewarded the same way. Even middle school and high school students could figure out that Luceo Pure was a textbook example of a communist state.
“And do you know what’s most important in a communist state?”
“Well, an authoritative power that makes sure no one slacks off on… Oh.” Yeon-Joo expressed surprise. “Wow, so that’s why Kang-Woo told us to kill the apostles for all to see, huh?”
The most important factor in maintaining a communist state was absolute power. Since human desire couldn’t be easily controlled, those who resisted needed to be suppressed by force for the country to function. Even with that, history has proven it was mostly ineffective.
Now that the Apostles of Light, those who maintained order so that the residents of Luceo Pure would comply, were gone, their suppressed desires would be unleashed to an extent incomparable to before.
“Wait, but Akart is still here. He’s the most important one, isn’t he?”
The absolute power would not fall as long as Akart existed.
“In Akart’s case, he’s too absolute. Even if the people of Luceo Pure are of devout faith, they wouldn’t think the god whom they served would descend to personally smite them just because they made a mistake.”
It was paradoxical but Akart was so omnipotent and unapproachable that he wouldn’t affect their plan. The residents would think Akart would never pay any mind to lowly beings such as themselves. The ones who acted to pressure the people into living as they used to were the Apostles of Light who periodically came out from the Temple of Truth to check the runnings of Luceo Pure.
“Wow… what a fucking demon,” Yeon-Joo muttered.
She was not impressed because Kang-Woo’s thoughts were unlike others but because he had managed to take this reckless and reckless plan this far.
“But… there is something I don’t understand,” Layla remarked.
“What is it?” Yeon-Joo asked.
“Kang-Woo’s objective is to plunge this world into despair, isn’t it? Even if he successfully gets the residents to unleash their desires… what will he do after that…?”
“Hoho. You don’t have to worry about that part.” Lilith stepped forward as she was listening in silence. “That’s the part the king has been preparing the most.”
“...?”
“Fufu. Why don’t we leave the small talk for later and be on our way?”
Lilith looked up at Kang-Woo waving his light sticks from above Luceo Pure. Her eyes were filled with nothing but unconditional trust and undying loyalty for her king.
“The end is near.”
The paradise of which its residents had taken a bite of the sweet fruit that the demon had handed them would soon fall into a pit of despair.
***
“Haha! Another fruitful day as always!”
“Mom! We got two less loaves of bread for today’s rations!”
“Oh, my! Sudden plans came up so I don’t think I can make dinner tonight!”
As Kang-Woo had planned, the residents’ suppressed desires had been unleashed. The rules they used to follow so unconditionally were falling apart rapidly due to their lies to one another. Lies infected the entire town like an epidemic.
The fruit offered to them by the demon was so sweet, comfortable, and easy that the rate of their corruption accelerated beyond control.
“Wow, this is pretty interesting.”
Kang-Woo chuckled as he looked down at the residents with a smile. They knew how to lie but not yet how to doubt. In other words, everyone was lying but they all believed them.
“I’m rather pleased with the pigsty I’ve made of this paradise.”
Luceo Pure was the epitome of chaos at the moment. The town would have fallen apart if not for their reserves of rations and daily necessities.
Whoooom!!!
A massive pillar of light, incomparably bigger than the pillars of light that had surged from the Temples of Light, descended toward Luceo Pure.
“Man, you’re finally here.”
A young man walked out of the pillar of light.
“Akart.”
One of the giants born from the Primordial— the Titan of Light, Truth, and Balance— had descended into Paradise.
