After submitting the badge template, Terrance publicly read out his responsibilities as the Gym Leader of Fallarbor Gym, and the authorization ceremony gradually came to an end.
Immediately afterward, the opening ceremony of the Fallarbor Gym continued.
Terrance invited Glacia to rest inside the Gym. Additionally, Terrance also accepted requests from the crowd to look around the Gym.
However, due to the overwhelming number of people outside, Officer Jennys and the children from the Old Green House had to organize the tour in batches.
Some people, seeing the large crowd, shook their heads and left. Their goal was just to challenge Terrance. Looking around the Gym—does it matter when they do it?
After the authorization ceremony ended, many people came to congratulate him. The children of the Old Green House first welcomed the residents of Fallarbor Town.
These were the familiar neighbors they saw regularly. Fallarbor Town is known for its simple and honest folk. Although no one gave any big gifts, the establishment of a Gym is a significant event, so each household brought a good amount of their homegrown vegetables and fruits.
Seeing this, visiting Trainers, feeling it would be inappropriate to jump ahead, could only watch quietly from behind.
The chubby Taiga happily accepted bag after bag of gifts. Scarlet and Ayan were busy helping out, while Myu and Rina carried fruit baskets over to the Officer Jennys maintaining order, offering them the fruits in case they were hungry.
However, since they were in the midst of their work, they declined Rina and Myu’s kind gesture with a smile. At that moment, someone from the crowd outside suddenly shouted:
“Mr. Finnian, the Deputy Chief of the Contest Committee, has arrived!”
The crowd parted as several people entered, led by a man in a suit who exuded elegance and confidence. With a smile, he approached.
“Looks like I’m not late,” he said with a grin.
“Contest Committee?” The Trainers outside were stunned. Even the Officer Jennys maintaining the order seemed surprised at the visitor. Glacia, who had just entered the Gym, glanced over upon hearing the commotion.
“Finnian from the Contest Committee. I remember him,” Glacia remarked.
“Contest Committee? Could he be here for the official establishment of Fallarbor Gym as well?”
“Oh right, I almost forgot that Terrance is also this year’s Top Coordinator,” someone suddenly said, reminding everyone. Yeah, Terrance is also a Top Coordinator. So, it makes sense that the Contest Committee would send someone to visit and congratulate him.
“It’s just a small token of my appreciation. Terrance is one of the most outstanding Coordinators I’ve ever met. On such an important occasion, of course, I have to give a gift.”
Mr. Finnian presented the gift, catching Ayan and the others off guard. It wasn’t until Terrance personally stepped forward that they snapped out of their daze and quickly rushed to assist.
Terrance hadn’t expected anyone from the Contest Committee side to show up. Since he wasn’t particularly familiar with Finnian, it didn’t feel right to let Ayan and the others receive the gift on his behalf, so he personally expressed his gratitude.
Finnian, understanding how busy Terrance was, smiled without disturbing him further, and then, under Terrance’s arrangement, also went into the gym to rest for a while.
“Contest Committee…” Glacia gave Terrance a meaningful look, surprised at how highly regarded he was by the Contest Committee.
And then…
It didn’t stop there.
During the Fallarbor Gym’s opening ceremony, it wasn’t just the local residents bringing small gifts. Finnian’s arrival was only the beginning.
“Lilycove Group, the secretary to the president of the Pokémon Watch’s branch office has arrived…”
“Fez Big Eater Restaurant Chain…”
“Everreach Group…”
One by one, companies, corporations, and groups that Terrance had previously interacted with also sent representatives to deliver congratulatory gifts on this day. Although the gifts might not be valuable, the scene startled many trainers.
When had they ever seen such a spectacle?
Terrance suppressed his own surprise and personally welcomed each of them into the Fallarbor Gym to rest. These were companies he had only briefly collaborated with, yet they had sent people to deliver gifts?
While Terrance could understand the Contest Committee’s gesture, the intentions of these companies were far less clear to him.
What Terrance didn’t know was that although the sales of the products he endorsed weren’t bad, they weren’t particularly outstanding either. That was only because of his reputation as a Coordinator. Now that his identity had changed drastically to that of a Gym Leader, this was a completely different story from his previous reputation as a Coordinator.
Moreover, the representatives were mostly secretaries or assistants. Going through the motions to maintain a good relationship isn’t a big deal.
“Fez Big Eater… I know that restaurant!” a Trainer exclaimed in astonishment. Fez Big Eater was one of the top-tier high-end restaurants in Hoenn, frequented only by the wealthy and influential.
In addition, many of the other companies were ones the Trainers had at least heard of. What they couldn’t believe was that such prominent companies sent gifts to a Trainer their age!
Many found themselves shocked, realizing they had underestimated Terrance.
Glacia, still in the Fallarbor Gym, watched the lively gift-giving scene with some surprise. Among those present, she was likely the only one whose emotions hadn’t fluctuated too much—though even her composure didn’t last for long…
As an Elite Four, Glacia thought she had seen it all.
But…
The arrival of Scott, driving a sports car, left her puzzled. Why would the financial powerhouse behind the Frontier Club and heir to one of Hoenn’s most prominent industries take the time to personally show up here?
“Hahaha, Terrance, impressive! But not telling me about this? That’s just not cool,” Scott said with a hearty laugh, patting the stunned Terrance on the shoulder.
“Mr. Scott…” Terrance replied with a wry smile, utterly clueless about why Scott had come. Terrance then became speechless. Given his status, shouldn’t he be very busy?
But this guy… wearing a blue vest and shorts, no matter how you look at him, he looks very carefree.
Scott pulled a beautifully wrapped gift box out of a small bag and handed it to Terrance: “I came uninvited, so please accept this as a congratulatory gift. Don’t think it’s too shabby. You go on with your business; I’ll just sit inside for a bit.”
The residents of Fallarbor Town and the young Trainers didn’t know who Scott was. But Glacia, the Officer Jennys, and those assistants and secretaries who came earlier certainly did. The latter group, in particular, started feeling uneasy. Compared to Scott, even their bosses’ status seemed a step down. They were suddenly struck by a strong urge to leave as quickly as possible.
‘The only visitor I knew about beforehand was Teacher Teresa, who came as a representative to deliver a congratulatory gift. Everyone else has been completely unexpected,’ Terrance thought with exasperation.
And then there was Master Victor, who was currently conducting research in the far away Alola Region and unable to attend. However, he said he wanted to give Terrance a mysterious gift. Although Terrance repeatedly declined, he couldn’t refuse Victor’s kindness.
Thank goodness Teacher Teresa had informed him in advance, along with the fact that Master Victor couldn’t make it; otherwise, things might have gotten even more complicated when receiving the guests.
The opening ceremony of the Fallarbor Gym was indeed beyond the expectations of many. Even Glacia, who stood at the pinnacle of Hoenn’s Trainers, was surprised.
And just as everyone thought the ceremony was about to conclude…
Two figures appeared, shocking everyone into stunned silence, followed by audible gasps.
Even Glacia rose to her feet, looking at the newcomers as if trying to confirm their identities.
It was Professor Lucci from the Weather Institute… and the man behind him, someone almost every Trainer in Hoenn recognized—
The heir to Devon Corporation, Hoenn’s current Elite Four Champion—Steven Stone!
