Rebirth: Leading Families to Survive in the Apocalypse
Chapter 228: The Despised Venus FlytrapEach bus in the convoy was routinely staffed with guard squad members who were mostly special ability users, but Su Jin and Lu Hao didn’t get back on the bus. Their two vehicles followed alongside the convoy, slowly making their way.
Because the refuge had to evacuate the remaining 3,000-plus people within two days, today’s convoy was even longer than the one the day before.
In addition to the guard squad members on each bus, Liang Wei also had Li Haochu arrange for two more trucks, both filled with special ability users and armed personnel capable of combat.
With Su Jin bringing so many people today, Liang Wei felt relatively at ease. He continued to stay at the refuge with Li Haochu, Xu Mingzhi, and others, waiting for the last day of the evacuation.
Not long after the convoy set out, zombies began to gradually surround them. Local Tyrant Gold bared its teeth and glared outside. It no longer dared to sit at the front of the vehicle since the zombies attacking from time to time almost scared it to death; Mao Qiqi, on the other hand, looked outside with a nostalgic expression.
Gather up, gather up, then we can all go down and kill them together.
The survivors inside the bus were still incredibly nervous. Although there had been no news of survivor deaths during the evacuation in the past two days, the multitude of zombies outside the windows made them shiver uncontrollably.
Even the foreigners looked terrified as they watched the scene unfold outside, feeling somewhat relieved now that they were on the bus. Behind the two SUVs outside, a trail of zombies had already begun to follow.
“More have joined the crowd, more have joined the crowd!” Liao Yifan exclaimed, her voice brimming with excitement.
“Old Lu, fighting zombies today is going to be fun,” Nie Qing nudged Lu Guanhai, who was sitting next to him.“Fun? You’ve been itching for action?” Lu Guanhai asked with a slant in his eyes.
“Tsk, what I mean is, with so many people watching us, we can’t let Su Girl down,” Nie Qing said with an air of grave importance.
“If you want to show off, just say so, don’t drag me into it.”
Nie Qing had become more and more roundabout in his speech lately; it seems he shouldn’t watch those palace drama shows so often.
Outside, the zombies seemed much more numerous than the day before. Su Jin and her group were already looking for an open area, preparing to go down and clear them out collectively.
Eventually, they stopped at the Civic Plaza they had passed the day before yesterday.
The moment the convoy came to a halt, almost every bus was surrounded by zombies pounding on the doors, causing the survivors inside to huddle together in terror, not understanding why they had stopped there.
“For those of you in the trucks, just cover us with your abilities; you don’t need to come down,” Su Jin said.
What?
They don’t even need to get out?
The guard squad members looked at each other in bewilderment.
But Liang Wei and Li Haochu had already given their orders: no matter what happened, they just needed to follow those two. So the guards just clenched their teeth and observed the situation outside.
Looking at the overwhelming numbers of zombies, there had to be at least four to five hundred, and there were only ten of them, including an older man and children among their ranks. They couldn’t possibly be joking, could they?
Mao Qiqi had already communicated the positions of the mutated zombies to Lu Hao and Su Jin. Among these zombies, there were actually six mutated zombies?
This number exceeded any encounter they had before, so even though the quantity of zombies outside wasn’t very high, Su Jin reminded everyone to be extra vigilant before exiting the vehicle.
The vehicles stopped on the large grassy area beside Civic Plaza. Although the grass had turned yellow and withered, the underlying landmass was significant, which would be advantageous for Su Jin’s wooden spike attacks.
The moment they opened the car doors, a horde of zombies swarmed them, and the doors they had just opened were pushed back by the zombies.
Just when the people on the bus thought their doors wouldn’t open, a bunch of green vines shot out of the narrow opening, stabbing precisely into the heads of the surrounding zombies!
While the power element ability user Liao Yifan was opening the door, she used the door to knock down the zombies outside, and then started kicking the zombies one by one.
Every kicked zombie was able to bring down the group behind them, and Xue Wanyi realized that Liao Yifan’s strength seemed to have increased significantly, but it might also be pent-up frustration from not having fought zombies for many days.
As soon as the Special Ability Users appeared, the Mutated Zombies automatically swarmed over. Fortunately, these Mutated Zombies didn’t seem to be of a high level, or else Su Jin really feared that the few of them wouldn’t be able to handle them.
The Guard Squad on the truck also found the right moment to use their Special Abilities to remotely attack the Zombies on the edge.
Lu Hao was up against a Metal Element Mutated Zombie, while Su Jin faced an Earth Element Mutated Zombie.
Su Jin discovered that this Earth Element Mutated Zombie liked to burrow into the ground.
But this, exactly suited her.
The Earth Element Zombie controlled rocks and hurled them towards Su Jin, but her vines quickly formed a defensive net, catching the stones and even throwing them back at the Earth Element Zombie!
Thwarted, the Earth Element Zombie burrowed into the soil of the lawn, trying to attack Su Jin from below.
Su Jin smiled.
She looked at the path the Earth Element Zombie was taking underground, placed her hand on the withered lawn, and suddenly, a sharp wooden spike shot up from beneath the soil!
The wooden spike pierced through the back of the Earth Element Zombie’s head, killing it instantly.
“Oh my Lord,”
the blond, blue-eyed foreigner muttered as he watched Su Jin outside.
That Wood Element woman was too brutal; she had taken out a Mutated Zombie in just two minutes!
And Lu Hao did not pale in comparison; the iron spikes shot by that Metal Element Mutated Zombie couldn’t harm him in the slightest, and he adroitly dodged every attack. By the time the Metal Element Zombie realized what was happening, Lu Hao had already charged towards it, running directly into its attack, plunging his Tang Sword straight into the Metal Element Zombie’s forehead.
While the group was dealing with the Mutated Zombies, Su Jin had already deployed Venus Flytraps next to Mao Qiqi to alleviate some of her pressure.
Initially, Mao Qiqi was extremely interested in the Venus Flytrap until she realized that it was snatching her prey!
Just as a Zombie staggered towards her and Mao Qiqi was about to grab her knife to chop, a lush vine shot out, wrapping around the Zombie and dragging it into an Animal Trap.
“…”
If the Venus Flytrap had eyes, it would see the full disdain in Mao Qiqi’s gaze.
Mao Qiqi deliberately moved away from the Venus Flytrap’s feeding range.
“Little girl be careful!” a Special Ability User inside the truck couldn’t help but shout.
Out of nowhere, a gray-white Zombie had appeared behind Mao Qiqi.
This was a Speed Element!
The Speed Element Zombie was very fast, but in Mao Qiqi’s map, it was just a fast-moving red dot.
The Speed Element Zombie flashed behind Mao Qiqi, reaching to grab her from behind!
Mao Qiqi’s Watermelon Knife spun in her hand in a flourish, slashing horizontally backward!
At the same time, Mao Qiqi leaned her upper body to the right, coordinating with the leftward horizontal slash of the Watermelon Knife. To her advantage, the Speed Element Zombie got one of its legs chopped off!
“Is is is is that little girl really a child?”
The Survivors in the bus facing this way were captivated by Mao Qiqi’s graceful attack. Originally, this little girl was a source of concern because of her small stature, but now she was not at all at a disadvantage against a mutated Speed Element Zombie!
