Reborn as the Genius Son of the Richest Family
Chapter 362 - 362: Successful experimentJacob looked around himself, exasperated at what he was seeing. These demi-humans were decimating his Dogfolk bandits as if they were nothing! They were all respectable fighters in the 4-star realm, yet they could not defeat a single one of those scaled demi-humans even when they were surrounding them three to one.
It seemed impossible. Not only that, but they weren’t just defeating the bandits, they were pushing them to enter the strange cart that zoomed off into the cliff. He noticed that those who returned from this ride were all passed out from fear.
“Wait…are they the Dragonborns?!”
This realization came far too late for Jacob. It had been rumored that the Dragonborns of Reborn were formidable fighters, but none of them believed it—till now.
And it wasn’t just them that were powerful. He looked to the side and saw a strange skeleton monster wielding a sword as he fought against five bandits at the same time.
It was as if he was looking at a Heavenly Knight in action. The skeleton barely used any mana or magic, yet it was able to play around with the bandits, parrying and deflecting their knives with pinpoint precision.
Even as a 6-star fighter, his instincts told him that he shouldn’t fight against someone like that.
These three Rebornians were already decimating their numbers. But it seemed that there was also another one with them as well—one from the shadows.
“Brahhh….”
Five bandits sluggishly walked forward all on their own, with their eyes completely unfocused as if they were still dreaming.
They continued to walk until they reached one of the carts.
“What are you doing?! Get away from that!” he warned them. But his words meant nothing to them. They voluntarily rode into the carts and strapped the seatbelts onto their chests.
“Anything for the slime god…,” they muttered under their breaths.
Unbeknownst to Jacob or anyone else, there was a shadow attached to their feet, letting Fudge trap their consciousness into illusions. After that, they followed his instructions of their own accord.
“I have had enough!” Jacob roared. He looked towards the Engineers and saw them continuing to take their notes, blissfully ignorant of the fight going on around them.
ROAR!
He rushed towards them in all fours, fur raised, and lunged at them with his jaws opened wide.
And for a brief moment, Jacob suddenly saw a golden-haired boy amongst the group of Engineers. He could see the boy looking at him with clear eyes, as if every move he made was telegraphed straight into his head.
His intuition got the better of him and he stopped his attack, with his claws skidding into the soil and grass.
The golden-haired boy was staring right at him, as if welcoming him to attack. Yet, Jacob had a bad feeling in his stomach. If those Dragonborns and the skeleton were any indication, then it meant that he shouldn’t underestimate this little kid.
“Grrrrr…”
Jacob’s tail shot up, with his fur rising like a spooked cat.
“Do you surrender?” the boy asked him.
His pride as a 6-star officer of the Bastard Bandits almost made him say no. But his sense of self-preservation allowed him to meekly nod his head.
“Good decision,” the boy said, before pointing behind him.
Jacob turned around and saw that most, if not all of his Dogfolk bandits were down on the ground, either from defeat or after experiencing the roller coaster. He was the only one left standing.
“I…I surrender…” he said.
…
…
…
Michael tallied all of the Dogfolk bandits and found their numbers to be in the high twenties, which was a pretty good haul for one day.
Not only did they score some points in the game, but he was also able to test his roller coaster feature.
“What are the results?” he asked the Engineers.
“It was great, boss. All the Dogfolk species exhibited great fear from the thunder cave. As expected, thunder and lightning is a proven weakness of all canine species, which we can now harness to manufacture fear from the roller coasters.”
Michael looked at all the Dogfolk bandits still strapped to their seats after just going through the ride once.
“We have to reduce the intensity. I don’t want our customers to pass out too much from the ride. Tone it down to about 50%,” he said to them.
“Understood! We’ll have the final design for the first roller coaster in a short while, boss!”
The engineers quickly wandered back to the fort, bringing with them all the data and prototype with them to work on the project more.
All in all, this was a very pleasant experiment. The data from this would allow the Engineers to perfectly adjust the ride so that the roller coaster would be thrilling but still fun to ride—the so-called goldilocks zone.
“Okay, round up all the bandits and take them back to our prison,” he shouted to the forest.
Black shadows emerged from branches, under stones, and through the cracks on the ground. These were all Low Shadow Orcs, whose job it was to take care of the prisoners and bring them to the Nation of Reborn.
Soon enough, Jacob and the rest of the Dogfolks were rounded out and teleported, leaving just Michael and the rest of his team.
“Wooo! That was a good exercise,” Zion cheered, punching the air. “You think the girls did better than us?”
“Stop celebrating. You almost ruined the roller coaster. If I didn’t intervene, the experiment would have been ruined. Next time, don’t add more burden to me. I’m already too spent!” Jaku complained, knocking on his brother’s noggin’.
“Hohoho…I…I forgot what I was going to say,” Grieve muttered to himself, becoming completely occupied with trying to remember his words.
Fudge hopped on over to Michael and saluted. “Master! I’ve detected more bandits coming to us. Shall we give them a warm welcome?”
“Yess! Lesgo!” Zion said, already scurrying off before Jaku grabbed ahold of his collar.
Michael chuckled. “Yeah, let’s go before the girls get to them first.”
And so, Michael and the Boyz continued to advance forward, defeating groups of Bastard Bandits in the meanwhile. Of course, Michael did some little bits of experiments here and there, but nothing too big like the Dogfolk one.
For example, he came across a few lizardmen whose weakness was ice. But not just ice, but ice from the top of the mountain. So, he used ice-specific spells to test their tolerance.
He had an idea about creating a roller coaster with the theme: climbing Everest. This ride would target demi-humans with the fear of cold, heights, and a little bit of water. Thankfully, he gathered enough data for the Engineers to make his idea into reality.
From sunup till sundown, Michael and the Boyz continued to fight and subdue bandits without stopping. Eventually, their total tally was exactly 523.
With the Bastard Bandits cave just up ahead, Zion insisted on continuing to advance through the night, which Michael agreed with.
Just then, he saw a shadow form in front of him. A shadow Orc kneeled to him before relaying some important information.
“Boss, some bandits are about to reach the Golden Road. Currently, it is only being defended by construction workers and engineers. Shall I tell the Shadow Orc to intervene?”
Michael could have teleported back and dealt with the situation easily. But he decided not to.
“Have the reinforcements arrived?” he asked.
“Yes boss. They and their instruments have safely been transported here.”
“Good. Then let them fight it out. Only intervene if it gets dangerous. They can take care of themselves, especially with them around.”
