Kakashi nodded, saying, “Indeed, that’s the Natural Lightning I am talking about.”

“But to harness that power, is that even possible?” asked Sasuke with an unsure expression as he raised his head to look at the sky. ‘Is such a thing even possible for humans?’

Kakashi chuckled, “I didn’t know that it was possible until I saw it happen with my very own eyes during the second phase of the Chūnin Promotion Exam… In the battle between Raijin and Darui, both of them harnessed the power of Natural Lightning and used a Jutsu so powerful that it couldn’t be categorized as anything below Rank-S.”

“So, all those dark clouds, lightning strikes, and heavy rain that occurred during the second phase of the exam… Darui and Raijin were responsible for it?” questioned Sasuke with a shocked expression.

Once again, Kakashi nodded, “Indeed, they were the ones responsible for all those intense weather phenomena…”

Hearing Kakashi’s response, several questions appeared in his mind, ‘How powerful does someone have to be to be able to affect the weather itself?’ ‘How much Chakra is needed to do such a thing?’ ‘How powerful are they?’ ‘Do I really have a chance against them?’

As if reading the doubts in Sasuke’s heart, Kakashi said with a smile, “If I hadn’t watched the battle between Darui and Raijin from close proximity, I would have had similar doubts.” He paused and explained, “Although the ability to affect the weather seems absurd, it’s not all that difficult if you give it some thought. In fact, you already have the necessary knowledge required to affect the weather… all you have to do is figure out how to put that existing knowledge to use. “But is that the only method of cloud formation?” said Kakashi with a smile, and asked, “What is the result of the collision of Water Style Jutsu and Fire Style Jutsu?”

“Vapour…” muttered Sasuke with a thoughtful expression and nodded, “I see… I understand what you are talking about, Kakashi-Sensei. If all that vapor condenses, it can result in cloud formation…”

“Exactly,” nodded Kakashi and explained, “And if the hot vapor produced by the collision of fire and water style Jutsu… or just the Fire Style Jutsu with the moisture present in the air were to experience intense convection because of the high temperature difference in the surroundings it could lead to the formation of thunderclouds.”

“Hn,” agreed Sasuke, and asked, “So Darui and Raijin used this phenomenon to their advantage, huh?”

This time, Kakashi didn’t nod, but rather shook his head, “Actually no, while Intense Convection did aid them in the formation of thunderclouds and made their work easier, what the two of them primarily relied on was their Storm Release Kekkei Genkai.”

Based on his observation of the battle between Darui and Raijin, it was obvious that both of them possess the Storm Release Kekkei Genkai. The users of Storm Release are also known as the weather humans among the Shinobi Kind as they have the power to affect weather. Kakashi can be quite certain that both of them heavily relied on their Storm Release Kekkei Genkai to affect the weather around the Forest of Death, covering the entire sky in dark thunderclouds in order to call upon the Natural Lightning.

Kakashi–who is not a user of Storm Release–can naturally not affect the weather or form thunderclouds in that manner like Darui and Raijin. For this reason, while training Sasuke, he studied weather phenomenon involving cloud formation, thunderclouds and so on, and after some research, came up with a method of utilizing the Intense Convection phenomenon to create thunderclouds and harness the power of Natural Lightning.

Lightning strikes are hundreds of times more powerful and faster than the beams of Dust Release, and unlike Dust Release, harnessing the power of natural lightning won’t consume too much Chakra either. If you succeed in harnessing the power of natural lightning against him, you’ll have a real chance of defeating him without having to worry about his Kekkei Tōta.”

Sasuke was about to nod, but a doubt appeared in his mind, and he questioned Kakashi, “Kakashi-sensei, I still have one doubt…”

“What is it?” asked Kakashi, curious about Sasuke’s doubt.

“You said that both Raijin and Darui harnessed the power of Natural Lightning in their battle… but considering the scale of damage such a Jutsu can cause, how did either of two survive?” asked Sasuke with a frown. In his opinion, both of them, if not one of them should have died, but both of them are alive which is a bit odd.

Kakashi shook his head with a bitter smile, “I do have some theories in mind about the possible method they could have used to survive, but honestly, I don’t know the definitive answer. At the moment of the collision of their strongest Jutsu, I had retreated far away. By the time I returned to the site, both parties had retreated.”
