Record of a Demon's Cultivation

Chapter 378: The Pursuit of Tai He

---

"The Nether Shrine is a subordinate faction of the Divine Blood Gate, established specifically to train Blood Wraith Guards for the sect," Xue Mei explained.

"Back in the day, this cave was filled with boundless blood energy and corpse miasma. The Nether Shrine even brought in endless ghost qi from the Misty Ghost Realm to temper the physical bodies of the Blood Wraith Guards."

"The shrine is divided into an inner and outer hall. Both are shrouded in ghost fog, but the outer hall is nothing compared to the inner."

"The ghost fog here is unlike ordinary ghost qi. It disregards one’s cultivation level, corrupting both the flesh and soul of anyone who enters, turning them into mindless wraiths."

"We can manage the outer hall, but the inner hall is too dangerous. The fog could corrode one's body in no time."

"The Nether Fox is a unique creature born from the ghost qi and can move freely within the fog."

"Timid by nature, the Nether Fox rarely leaves the fog unless absolutely necessary."

"It feeds on the flesh and souls of living creatures, particularly favoring humans."

"You, a living human, are the perfect bait to lure out the Nether Fox."

Song Wen asked, "Senior, may I ask how many Nether Foxes are in the shrine, and what level of cultivation they possess?"

Xue Mei replied, "There is only one Nether Fox, at late-stage Tier Three strength."

Song Wen's pupils immediately widened.

"A late-stage Tier Three beast! I’m merely at the Foundation Establishment level. Facing a late-stage Nether Fox would be a death sentence."

"Besides, your corpse body is only at the Silver Corpse level—far weaker than a late-stage Tier Three Nether Fox. How do you plan to kill it?"

Xue Mei replied, "Rest assured, I wouldn’t send you to die without a plan."

"As soon as you step into the outer hall, the Nether Fox will likely sense the lure of your living aura and emerge from the inner hall."

"Once it steps out, I have a way to kill it."

Song Wen gazed at Xue Mei, his expression dark.

Xue Mei's words were evasive. She had yet to explain her exact plan for dealing with the fox, nor how he would survive its attack.

It was clear she planned to use him as fodder while keeping her real strategy concealed. Facing the Nether Fox might be no worse than a life-or-death struggle with Xue Mei herself, where he might at least have a slim chance.

Song Wen pondered silently.

Noticing his hesitation, a bloodthirsty smile crept onto Xue Mei's stiff face.

"It seems you’re not keen on being bait willingly. Then I’ll just have to kill you, seal your soul in this corpse, and use your freshly-dead body to lure the Nether Fox."

As she spoke, corpse energy surged from her body, rising like a wave. Her claws glowed with a chilling light, ready to strike.

Just as Xue Mei prepared to attack, a shout echoed through the cave.

"Stop!"

A figure swiftly approached from afar, voice booming even before arriving. In an instant, the figure appeared above the square, a powerful aura flooding the area like a torrential storm.

Song Wen felt as if Mount Tai itself pressed down on him, making it difficult to breathe. His limbs felt bound, rendering him immobile.

Song Wen was horrified—whoever had come was so strong that their mere presence crushed his ability to resist.

Xue Mei’s expression also froze.

Though not intimidated by the power, she was surprised that a Nascent Soul cultivator would appear here, in the desolate Endless Desert where spiritual energy was scarce.

The newcomer was a square-faced man dressed in a green robe—Tai He, master of Yan Yiwen.

This cave suppressed his spiritual power and senses, but not as severely as it did Song Wen, leaving him able to extend his awareness about a mile.

Scanning Song Wen, Tai He confirmed that he had finally found the "Ji Yin" target and smirked.

"Ji Yin, you certainly know how to run. To think you’d flee all the way to the Endless Desert."

His spiritual sense then swept over Xue Mei.

“Oh! So you’re a Nascent Soul spirit driving a Silver Corpse. You must have been a Nascent Soul cultivator in life. Perhaps if we’re acquaintances, I could help you acquire a suitable body. Relying on a corpse is hardly a permanent solution.”

Xue Mei gave Song Wen a curious glance.

How unexpected that those pursuing him had caught up so quickly.

Turning to Tai He, her gaze gleamed.

This man controlled a Foundation Establishment cultivator with the Profound Yin Physique—the very physique she had been searching for.

Xue Mei addressed Tai He.

“No need for concern over a body, Daoist. Are you here for this boy?”

“Indeed,” Tai He replied.

"I have a proposal. Perhaps it will interest you."

“Oh? I’m listening.”

"There is a late-stage Tier Three Nether Fox in the hall. If we send this boy inside, he can draw it out, and then we can strike. I only want three of the Nether Fox’s tails; you may have the rest."

Tai He’s eyes lit up.

“A Nether Fox, truly?”

“Absolutely,” Xue Mei assured him.

"Though only Tier Three," Tai He commented with some disappointment.

Xue Mei chided him, "That’s greed talking. Nether Foxes are unique to the Misty Ghost Realm, which lies several billion miles away from here, with the Endless Desert in between."

TLN: Several Billion Miles... Excuse the fu-

"Their fur and bones are premium materials for crafting soul-related artifacts, difficult to obtain. Finding a Tier Three Nether Fox here is a tremendous stroke of luck."

Tai He agreed, “Quite true. Very well, we’ll proceed with your plan. But, Daoist, without a physical body, aren’t you concerned I might betray you afterward and take the Nether Fox for myself?”

Xue Mei replied, “Were we anywhere else, I’d indeed be no match for you. But in this Nether Shrine, gaining the upper hand won’t be easy.”

As she spoke, Xue Mei’s withered hand struck a nearby stone pillar.

At once, thick blood mist rose from the pillar.

Similar mists poured from dozens of other pillars around the square, filling the area.

A blood-red array of symbols appeared across the ground of the square.

The large blood array manifested in an instant.
