Chapter 1712  Trouble

Ning was about to explain when suddenly he heard rushing footsteps. “Boss!” the man shouted.

The leader’s attention suddenly shifted from the conversation, turning to look at his soldier who had come into the forest running.

“What? What’s going on? Soldiers?” he asked quickly.

“No, but there is a person running down the road,” the man said. “One?” the leader asked, frowning. He wondered if they had sent a single person to kill them all. If it was a particularly powerful person then it would be troublesome.

“From the forest?” Ning asked.

“No, the other way. They are running toward the forest,” the man said.

“Did you say running?” Ning asked. “Like, they are being chased or they are the ones chasing?”

“I think they are being chased. I can’t tell. They were too far away for me to see properly.”

The leader’s eyes narrowed for a moment. “Maybe…” he said softly. He turned around, looking at the man who had lost his arm was still on the bed, resting.

He clicked his tongue for a moment. “Everyone, make sure you hide yourself,” he said. Don’t show yourself no matter what.”

Ning stood up and went to grab his spear to the side.

“What are you doing?” the leader asked.

Ning pointed toward the road with his spear. “Going to help whoever it is that needs me help,” he said.

“You can’t,” the man said. “You can’t let them see us.”

“I’ll try not to,” Ning said, but the leader quickly walked to the side, blocking his path.

“I’m sorry, I cannot let you save a single person if that means it puts my people in jeopardy,” he said.

Ning rested his spear on his shoulder and looked at the man. He shook his head slightly. “Someone is in trouble, that means I must help them. If it troubles you, I will help you again. Is that enough?”

Shara walked up to Ning at that point, staying close in case he needed it. “You don’t know what’s out there,” the man said. “Friend or foe. We cannot be certain. You save whoever that man is coming and they will only harm us back.”

“You don’t know that,” Ning said. “Please let me go.”

The man frowned. The soldiers looked at each other, not sure what they were supposed to do in this situation. Since their leader wasn’t giving any command, they simply waited for one.

Ning began walking and the leader remained unmoved, not wanting to let him go. But Ning still moved and simply made his way around the man. The leader did nothing to stop him in the end.

All he could do was try to ignore the complicated emotions that were stirring deep within him. He couldn’t bring himself to use force to stop his savior.

Ning ran toward the road with Shara running behind him. They quickly reached the location where the other man on watch was hiding, waiting for his leader’s command. 11:35

Ning arrived but failed to see anyone at all. There was no one on the road.

All he could do now was hope Ning didn’t screw it up for everyone else.

Ning ran toward the road with Shara running behind him. They quickly reached the location where the other man on watch was hiding, waiting for his leader’s command. Ning arrived but failed to see anyone at all. There was no one on the road.

“Where is the man that was running? Did he enter the forest?” he asked the soldier behind the bush.

“No, she fell in the grass around there. I haven’t gone to check on her,” the man said. Ning looked in the direction the man pointed at and saw a small section of uneven ground, through which he could see something white barely sticking out.

He began walking in that direction, ignoring the soldier’s shout about waiting for the leader’s orders.

Ning ran close and saw the white cloth even better and when he arrived right next to her, he could see the woman on the ground, face down, passed out.

He looked at her, no shoes, hair sprayed on the ground. He quickly walked up to her and flipped her over to see if she was wounded.

When he did, his eyes widened in shock.

“Huh?” he couldn’t help but exclaim.

Shara was right behind him and heard the sound he made. “What?” she asked.

Ning slowly turned toward Shara and said, “This… is the woman who healed my arm,” he said, turning back to look at her. “What is she doing here?”

“Is she hurt?” Shara asked.

Ning shook his head. He couldn’t tell. She didn’t look hurt at all, but she did look tired. “We should bring her back to camp,” he said.

He gave the spear to Shara and hauled the woman over on his shoulders. He began walking back, and by that time a few of the soldiers had already arrived there with the leader.

The leader looked at Ning and then the woman. “What are you planning on doing?” he asked.

“Taking her back to camp. She’s knocked out,” he said.

The man glanced around the place, seemingly looking for something. “Did you find out who was chasing her?” he asked.

Ning shook his head. “I can’t tell if she was being chased or not,” he said.

The leader thought for a moment. “I will accept taking her back to the camp, but how do we make sure she doesn’t bring over trouble?” he asked.

“This woman is the one that healed my arm. She has the power to regrow my arm entirely. Do you wish to send such a woman away or would you want her to owe you a favor?”

The leader’s eyes widened in shock at that very moment. “She is… what?”

Ning nodded.

The leader had no reason to deny it anymore. “Take her back to camp immediately,” he said. Some of the soldiers took the woman from Ning’s shoulders and helped carry her back.

Shara ran behind them and so did Ning.

But the leader remained.

Ning saw that. ‘What’s wrong?” he asked. The man said nothing for a bit. “I am wondering,” he said. “If it was perhaps not a ‘who’ that was chasing her, but a ‘what’.”

Ning frowned for a bit, trying to understand his meaning, and then the understanding came immediately.

“Spirits.”
