Reincarnated Lord: I can upgrade everything!
Chapter 466 - 466: Minotaur KingLooking around, I’ron suddenly spoke words that made Asher’s heart still, words that cut through his storm of thoughts like a blade through mist.
“You humans…” the centaur said, his voice low, thoughtful, edged with quiet scorn, “you love to limit yourselves to certain rules. Do you truly believe it’s over? That because your town is gone, you can no longer be a lord? That the resources of this realm are beyond your reach?”
Asher rose to his feet, his golden eyes sharp with renewed focus. He tilted his head slightly, as if to see I’ron more clearly with his right eye, reading not just the centaur’s words but the weight behind them. “There’s still a chance?”
“Of course there is,” I’ron said, his gaze turning distant, fixed beyond the trees, beyond what the eye could see. His voice took on the quiet certainty of one who spoke of truths carved deep into the bones of the world. “It’s right before you. Just take it.”
Asher followed the line of I’ron’s gaze, squinting past the endless sea of trunks and branches. Yet, all he could see were trees, thick, ancient trees standing like silent sentinels. But then, his mind’s eye reached further, beyond the horizon, and the truth struck him like a bolt of lightning.
Far beyond those trees, dozens upon dozens of kilometers away, lay the Minotaur’s Den.
His eyes widened, a spark of both hope and dread flickering within them.
I’ron chuckled softly, seeing the understanding dawn in Asher’s expression. “You want a great army?” he said, his voice rumbling like distant thunder. “Then ask yourself, who or what in Tenaria, or even in this world of Eden, surpasses the brawn and fury of the minotaurs? Over twenty thousand of them roam those lands. Twenty thousand! More than enough for you to not only begin your campaign anew, but to rise as a major force here, one no lord can ignore.”
Asher’s fingers curled slightly, the weight of what was being offered, or what was being dared, making his skin prickle. His mind raced through the possibilities, the risks.
The minotaurs. Beasts of sacred rank—creatures whose raw might exceeded that of most saint-ranked beings. Their physical power combined with a natural mana so potent it rivaled, if not surpassed, the battle force of imperial ranked knights or the magi force of mages. In sheer terms of strength, they stood like mountains among men.
If he could command them, twenty thousand minotaurs would be equivalent to twenty thousand Adeptus knights, an unstoppable tide of muscle, fury, and will.
Such a force could raze small nations to ash, crush medium-sized kingdoms beneath their hooves and axes. Only the greatest nations would endure, and even then, only because of their hidden champions, their Awoken Ones, their archmages, their living legends.
But there was a reason the minotaurs had not yet brought ruin to this world. A reason why kingdoms still stood.
They were scattered. Wild. A force of chaos. A hundred thousand disciplined soldiers, fighting as one, could bring them down. And that was why, for all their power, the minotaurs were not the terror they could have been.
Asher narrowed his eyes, his mind sharpening like a blade on stone.
He saw the path now.
But could he walk it?
“Make no mistake,” I’ron said, his golden eyes hard as steel, “you might die. No, you will die if you face their king. But that is the only way.” He turned, his gaze fixed on Asher, as if daring him to flinch. “There is a ring set in the eye socket of one of the skulls that hangs from its neck. Kill the king. Let its blood bathe that ring, and you’ll gain command over the minotaurs, all of them. Every last one.”
The centaur’s tone was final, as if he spoke a law written during creation.
“Lose the battle…” I’ron’s head turned slightly, his voice quieter, heavier. “And you die.”
Asher’s eyes narrowed, golden irises gleaming with focused intent. His voice was low, steady. “What is its rank?”
“Exalted.” The word left I’ron’s mouth like the toll of a bell. His expression didn’t change, stoic, knowing. “It has the pure might of fifty tons. Its fists, each strike unleashes an air blast that can disintegrate boulders, carve a path clean through a hill. Your inner world? It will likely be useless against it. That’s why I said you will die.”
I’ron raised a brow, his gaze searching Asher’s face. “Why do you think no one has tried it? Don’t you understand? The other lords—they have Old Ones who favor them. If this could be done so easily, someone would have done it already.”
Asher’s jaw tightened, his mind racing, calculating. “I have to challenge it alone?”
“You have to,” I’ron confirmed, his voice like stone on stone. “The minotaur king commands not just power, but loyalty. Its guards will tear apart any who try to approach. But if you incite the ritual, a personal combat, a sacred duel, they will stand aside. That, at least, they will honor.”
The night seemed to grow quieter, the world itself holding its breath as the weight of the task settled on Asher’s shoulders.
“Then how is it still an option?”
“It is,” I’ron said, his voice rumbling like distant thunder. His golden eyes locked onto Asher’s, unblinking, ancient. “You need to tap into the true potential of your King Body. Haven’t you ever wondered, truly wondered, just how powerful a body is when its blood grants such great power to others?”
He took a step forward, his hooves silent on the forest floor, as if even the earth itself dared not protest his approach. I’ron leaned lower, his massive form casting a shadow over Asher. The air between them seemed to hum with invisible force.
“The King Body…” I’ron’s voice dropped to a near whisper, heavy with meaning. “It is the physique of an Old One. A form born not for limits, but for dominion. Yet here it is, confined, bound by your human thoughts, shackled by the smallness of human fear and reason.”
His gaze pierced deeper, as if he could see into Asher’s very soul. “How about you let me bring it out?” The centaur’s lips curled into the faintest of smiles, both a challenge and a promise. “Let me show you what you really are.”
