Chapter 1043: Phantasm Map

Shortly after walking for a few minutes, Lao Shu and Xu Feng arrived at a room that was labeled Archive.

The Archive was tightly locked and had many restrictions. Along the way, there were multiple guards patrolling.

They were all initially alerted and were about to act but halted themselves in time when they realized it was Lao Shu.

Besides the guards, there were also numerous formations in place. It goes without saying that the security was even more grander than in some other places.

"The Archive can be considered the history of our Cartographer Guild. Unless one reaches a high rank or enough achievement, they are usually barred from accessing here." Lao Shu explained the significance of the Archive.

Naturally, the intent behind it was to make sure Xu Feng understood that it was his great fortune to be granted access to the Archive.𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

"I’m glad to be able to witness the glory of the Cartographer Guild."

"Indeed, you are one lucky youngster. Many of my peers all wish to enter the Archive, but I had to turn them down."

Sometime later, Lao Shu paused his footsteps. He was just a few meters away from a large metallic door.

Lao Shu chanted something and his hand began to illuminate slightly. Afterward, he placed his palm on the large metallic door. A small clicking sound was heard as the door began making a creaking sound.

One might expect to be covered in dust when an Archive door opened, but that wasn’t the case here.

Not only was the Archive squeaky clean, but Xu Feng also failed to find any speck of dust in the room.

"This is really the Archive room?" Xu Feng raised an eyebrow and commented. He wasn’t really interested or surprised by the scenery, but to ensure he could make Lao Shu gloat and become prideful, he knew the role he needed to play.

And sure enough, Lao Shu raised his chin up. "Heh, unlike other Archive rooms, our Cartographer Guild cherished every map drawn. Whether it be the past centuries or the most recent maps, any one of them that contributed significantly would be archived."

Clapping in response, Xu Feng praised, "The Cartographer Guild had truly contributed to the rising of Evershade City and saving their citizens from the danger of the sea."

"It seems like you know the importance of our guild." Pleased and satisfied with the response, Lao Shu quickly took a liking to Xu Feng.

Although the Cartographer Guild was never the type to go to the front and expose themselves to the public, their work behind the scenes was extremely vital to many glorious moments.

The discovery of islands or tracking of significant landmarks was always done by the Cartographer Guild.

It wasn’t an exaggeration to say that the Cartographer Guild was the backbone of many aspects of operations in the sea and the land.

What appeared to be the most inconspicuous guild was actually a fearsome guild that held many influences in multiple sectors.

This was the main reason why Xu Feng didn’t dare to act out of place and remained humble while stroking Lao Shu’s ego.

Just when Xu Feng was about to step his foot inside the Archive room, Lao Shu hurriedly stopped him.

"Woah there, youngster." Lao Shu laughed awkwardly. "I only showed you what the Archive room is like, but not for you to enter. Maybe once you complete the mission given by Chao Shen, then you can enter."

"..."

Without waiting for him to give a response, Lao Shu entered and the large metallic door closed on him.

’These two old geezers.’ He was rendered speechless by their shameless behavior that was even beyond him.

Shaking his head, Xu Feng knew it was pointless to try and enter the Archive room at this moment. Lao Shu had given him the clues to be granted access, and that was to complete the Phantom’s Wake mission.

"Hopefully the map inside the archive room could still be referenced above 60%." He murmured.

Time quickly went by, and Lao Shu returned with a small treasure chest in his hand. The treasure chest was being rubbed gently by Lao Shu, almost as if it were a precious baby.

"This is the original copy of Phantasm Map." Lao Shu explained and carefully handed it over to Xu Feng.

Xu Feng extended his hand to receive the treasure chest, but couldn’t fully accept it, granted that Lao Shu was gripping tightly on the other end.

"Remember, only the original copy can illuminate at key points when you stumble across it. If you damage or lose it, then I’m going to lose my sanity." Lao Shu’s face was practically looking ghastly, almost as if he was afraid Xu Feng would cause massive damage to the map.

"I understand, Senior." Xu Feng nodded and flashed a solemn expression. "I will definitely complete the mission with success and the map will be returned in the same condition."

"You promised?" Lao Shu’s eyes turned watery. His face was no different than a child unwilling to offer their toys to another person because of an order.

"I promised. If anything, Handsome Chao will compensate for the damage." Xu Feng smoothly brushed his hands away and retrieved the treasure chest.

System: You have received the Phantasm Map!

As soon as the system prompt appeared, Xu Feng quickly opened the details regarding the map inside the treasure chest.

Item Name: Phantasm Map

Type: Utility

Rarity: Mythic

Level Requirement: None

Class Restriction: None

Abilities: Help navigate the mysterious Phantasm Sea and create a special barrier that prevents the ship from corroding.

Description: The Phantasm Map of the original source was cartographed by a mysterious cartographer which enabled any sailors to use the map to travel in the Phantasm Sea. The map is embedded with special runes that would illuminate upon encountering any unique properties hailed from the Phantasm Sea.

’A mythic rank utility item.’ Xu Feng finally realized why Lao Shu appeared so heartbroken and aggrieved to give away such an item. Even he would be crying and bleeding his heart out if he had to give a mythic rank item to a stranger.
