Chapter 964: It’s Complicated
"Hah, is the system really trying to tease us?"
"What's the point of mentioning the Resonance Shard now?"
"Could it be that we might lose in the third round?"
Most of the players sneered at the system's last words. Having experienced its bug once, they were laughing that the system was trying to trick them all.
Why should they actively seek to confront monsters when they could just avoid them?
While there were those who disdained and sneered at the system prompt, there were some who secretly harbored thoughts of killing monsters.
Not everyone had a rotten brain.
In their mind, even if they didn't know the usage of the Resonance Shard, they should still try to hoard the item. After all, the system had repeatedly mentioned such an item before, so it would be really retarded to ignore it.
However, regardless of what was on their mind, the scene before them had swiftly transitioned before their eyes. Previously, the surrounding scene was dim, with only the battle stage illuminated.
Thus, not many players knew where they were.
Of course, some still attempted to explore, only to find themselves blocked by some invisible force.
To simplify, nobody could escape the second round environment. Hence, when the scene finally unfolded before them, they realized it was actually another massive field.
It combined all elements found in the battle royale, except this time, the System explicitly forbade infighting.
In other words, players could no longer harm other players. Even if it was an unintentional hit, no player would take damage.
"Eh, after a bloodbath in round one, the trial now banned fighting overall?"
"Hmm, I am getting more and more confused by the trial's format."
"What's there to be confused about? The third round didn't forbid us from stealing the kill of another player!"
Nobody knew who shouted those words aloud, but it certainly resounded in their ears in a thunderous moment.
Indeed, the system explicitly said no infighting, but what about the monsters scattered across the field?
Wouldn't the monster's drop loot become an exclusive item for the player who killed it?
Nobody would need to worry about being killed for obtaining any loot because with the system in place, who could target them?
"The system is so sinister." Carmen suddenly commented. She was certain that many players would simply rush to the exit immediately. But now that the players were able to become enlightened that player-killing was banned, they could actually kill steal the monster, and take the loot for themselves.
In fact, they could even remain still afterward and taunt the living hell out of their opponent for losing the last hit from them.
Xu Feng nodded in agreement. This format was designed to encourage players to take their sweet time hunting down monsters.
The exit point was fixed. So as long as one discovers it. They could just mark it on their map and pay attention to the time limit.
'Even I'm tempted, but I doubt we can actually get any Resonance Shard.' Xu Feng's reasoning wasn't out of place. The fact that the system mentioned it had a high possibility of dropping was already a red herring.
He refused to believe there was no trick in this meaning.
"Will you be willing to join us and hunt monsters?" Amidst his thought process, two people approached them.
Turning around, Xu Feng glanced at Floral Witch and Azalea. "You plan on hunting down the monsters for loot?"
"Everyone is," Floral Witch said. Her expression was somewhat confused by Xu Feng's lack of enthusiasm. Many players seemed to have said that they wouldn't hunt the monsters, but it was just a classical misdirection.
"Don't be influenced by some of the comments made by others. They just wanted to misdirect people to simply rush to the exit and lower the competition." She explained softly.
Upon hearing that, Xu Feng twitched his mouth slightly. It wasn't that he was deceived and swindled by those comments, but he realized Floral Witch must have misunderstood his lack of excitement to have been hoodwinked.
'Woman, I knew they were just yapping.' He wanted to say those aloud. After all, he had already spotted a few individuals who had previously shouted those words, being very eager to kill monsters.
Despite knowing their insidious intention, he really wanted to rush to the exit.
"I think it's better for us to just find the exit." Xu Feng exhaled softly and said. Since Floral Witch intended to invite him to join their hunting, he might as well return the favor and give her a word of advice.
Rather than wasting time hunting the monsters in the field, Xu Feng would rather complete the third round.
Ultimately, it was the one statement that made him believe otherwise.
And it was from the system prompt stating: Whether you wish to avoid the monsters or confront them to reach your goal, that is your decision.
Was the system trying to add word count to fulfill some quota?
Absolutely not!
The fact that the system told players to make a decision caused him to become wary.
No words coming from the system were nonsensical, especially when it was related to a trial.
In the Divine World, every word of the system prompt was specifically and meticulously designed. To disregard them was essentially asking to be in the dark.
"So you don't plan on joining us?" Floral Witch frowned slightly.
Their current relationship could be said to be very shaky. She hoped that personally inviting them to the campaign to hunt monsters could help alleviate their relationship.
Yet who would have thought Xu Feng would reject her goodwill?
Was he really planning on going their separate way once the trial ended?
"I would join if it were a good action. But I have my doubts and skepticism regarding the third round." Xu Feng calmly said. He had already dropped a few subtle hints that something was amiss in the third round.
Alas, his intention seemed to be missed when Floral Witch pursed her lips and turned around to leave.
Azalea remained in the scene for a moment. She had a complicated expression hanging on her face as she left to follow Floral Witch.
Once they left, Carmen stepped forward and asked, "Are we no longer on speaking terms with them?"
"Hard to say. It's complicated." Xu Feng sighed.
