Damien was feeling warm in his chest, knowing that if someone like Reva finally said these words, she must have been thinking about him a lot more than he thought.
The two kept on hugging each other and stayed like that as time just seemed to have frozen for them. It was as if they wanted to stay like this forever and cherish this moment.
Damien slowly took a step back and raised her head, and saw how her eyes were brimming with tears.
He felt guilty and gently kissed one of her eyes as he whispered, "I am sorry...I never meant to deceive you. I just have a hard time trusting people…"
Reva could feel that he was truly sorry, but at the same time, she wondered what happened to him to make him be wary of others like this.
She felt that it couldn't be anything good and felt bad for him and thought that maybe she accused him wrongly.
"It's...okay...I understand...I am also to blame...I hid things from you as well…" Reva said in a taut tone.
"But you were protecting your people...it's understandable, and in fact, I admire you for it. Not everybody can do what you are doing. It really takes a lot of willpower and courage...especially when putting one foot on each side," Damien could only imagine how hard it must have been for Reva to be like a double agent. Her exalted status as the imperial princess only made it even more difficult for her.
She was working for the Forsaken as a leader while using her princess identity to gain important information related to the empire. Her status on both sides was only below one person.
How did she even manage to do this all these years? He felt that maybe it might be because of this Reva became so cold and seemed like a caged bird, not really having the freedom to do whatever she wanted to do because of being burdened by these heavy responsibilities.
How could someone who was barely twenty handle all this without breaking down even once?
Damien doubted whether he could have done something like this before he became a different person after the Great Calamity.
Reva felt relieved to see that Damien wasn't angry at her for hiding things as well. In fact, he seemed to understand her troubles the most.
For the first time, she felt as if she was not alone anymore and had a shoulder to lean her head on when times get tough, unlike before.
But Reva suddenly remembered something and got away from Damien in a hurried manner, "We can't stay like this here...we could be caught…" She said in a low voice while avoiding his gaze with an abashed look.
Damien knew why she would worry about these things since they were hugging each other right in the Xeton Ethereal Foundation, a place filled with all sorts of experts.
Even if nobody would dare try to prod the imperial princess' quarters, nobody can guarantee if the Xeton Emperor had tasked someone with keeping an eye on her.
And if Damien happens to get caught getting intimate with the imperial princess, his head would surely roll, and the Xeton Emperor might personally dispose of him.
However, Damien's expression remained calm as he said, "It's fine. You can sense the ethereal barrier around us, right? It's something that can't be breached by even Heaven Ethereal Realm cultivators, and as for Profound Ethereal Realm cultivators, they would have to struggle a bit to break through it. I am sure by the time they break-in, we would have enough time to sort out things."
Reva didn't notice before, but when she used her spiritual sense, she was surprised to sense the presence of a strong barrier that seemed like an iron wall, making her feel no doubt about Damien's words about its defensive power.
"How did you get such a powerful ethereal barrier artifact?" Reva asked, feeling relieved since she knew getting caught would mean Damien's fate would be sealed while hers wouldn't be any better.
Damien felt that now there was no need to hide anything from her now that everything was out in the open between them, and most of all, they both surely held feelings deeper than just friendship.
"Well, I got it from the Rong Ancestor as a gift, and it did indeed help me a lot all this time."
Reva knitted her brows and asked, "The Rong Ancestor? You said you worked as a servant for the princess. So why would her ancestor gift you such a precious artifact? Don't tell me…"
'Oh shit…' Damien inwardly grimaced, wondering why women always caught onto things like these so fast. Still, he stood straight since there was no point in hiding his 'deep' relationship with the Rong Empire.
Seeing how Damien's expression was weirdly rigid, Reva's brows raised, "The Rong Princess...did you really…"
"Yes...she is my woman even though I didn't lie about being a servant to her. My official post was her gardener. But…"
"You womanizer! How many women did you seduce already? You already have these exceptional women, and still you....you…" Reva couldn't bring herself to complete her sentence since it was too embarrassing.
But at the same time, she couldn't believe how Damien was able to make someone as famous and talented as Lily to be his woman, especially when he was working for her as a servant.
How did the two even become lovers with so many eyes around? How did they not get caught? A relationship between one of royalty and a commoner was a taboo that wouldn't be entertained at all.
But at the same time, she realized that she was no different since she was also developing feelings that could pose quite a danger to not only her but the other person as well.
Still, she was upset that he had all these women already in his arms and was still shameless enough to want her as well. How would any woman in her shoes feel okay about this?
Damien knew Reva was pissed off about this, but it was not something he could do anything about.
So he swiftly held her hands and said gently, "I know I am a really selfish and bad man. But you were the one who stole a piece of my soul. So I have no choice but to want you beside me. No matter how many women I already love, it wouldn't change my feelings towards you.. I promise."
